Just Got SCX10..lookin for different scale bodies

Hi all! Just purchased a SCX10 and a Novak Rooster Crawler w/ 55T motor from my LHS :) I am a newbie to rock crawlers but have been in R/C since late 80's! I really like the scale crawlers and thats what drove me to the SCX10. My question is, will the Tamiya bodies work on the SCX10? Looking at the Hi Lux or the new Tundra to be specific. If so...how are you mounting them? Pics would be great!

Thanks SwatDoc for the info! I'm pretty excited about building this truck! Any ideas where I can find a Mountainer body set since this kit is no longer in production @ Tamiya?

Thanks 2JSC...you're fast! I may hold off and see if I can measure some of the other 10th scale tamiya bodies...maybe the Hi Lux would fit?

Wow... I searched Ebay and the few Mountaineer bodies I found were expensive!!!:shock: Found a brand new in the bag but starting bid was $199!!!! I guess I'll hold off and keep my eyes open for other 1/10 scale options.

I'd have to say that if you're going for a Mountaineer body to use for your scale crawler, don't look for one that is nice and pristine, those things can cost a mint. Try looking for a used one, it'll be somewhat cheaper, and will most likely give that "trail driven" feel to the body. Best of luck!

THanks...Jar Head! Tamiya has always been very good with making scale models that look realistic but I'm not looking to spend over $50 on a R/C body (unless custom painted). I'm sure as the SCX10 grows in popularity...more bodies will become available at a reasonable price.

BTW...Semper Fi!!! I was in the Corps from 1993-1997. 1st LAR Bn, Camp Pendleton.

whats wrong with the new hilux /f350 toyota body?? it is basically the same body as the original mountaineer body with just a few small tweaks just wondering as i have a few of the original bodies that i refuse to hack up"thumbsup"
you can snag a new hilux body here from a few of the vendors

Nothing wrong with the F350 or the new Hi Lux....Would they fit the SCX10?

new hilux and mountaineer bodies are damn near exactly the same thing. few subtle changes like side marker lights, but the overall dimensions and therefore wheelbase are the same.

F350 will fit just fine
