View Full Version : 3 Wheels through a gate

Searched the rules and the "straddling a gate" topic and I'm still a bit unclear about this particular case, which happened to me at a comp.
I drove up an incline with the front axle clearing the gate. The angle of the incline pushed the rear axle over, placing the gate (half a tennis ball) under the rig. I stopped and asked for ruling and was told the gate would be cleared but there would be no progress point if I didn't hit it and as long as 3 wheels cleared. So I proceeded and the rear axle did not touch the gate, however, one wheel didn't clear through the gate. Was I awarded correctly or did I get away without a gate penalty?

Your wording is even more confusing than the rules ...you can't clear a gate and not receive progress, and it sounds like you got away with a Straddle. There is no-mention of only 3 tire in the current rules, so I don't know why that was mentioned.
Because of some confusion around this rule...some clarification is inthe works.
Stay tuned for further details "thumbsup"

Sounds like a gate penalty to me, lucky you, as long as everyone else had the same chance and was judged the same than all should be fine.

so did you get the -1 progress point plus the 10 pt gate penalty? that's how i would have awarded it. just confused with your wording.

to clarify....
I started to approach a gate like so...

The front axle passed through the gate without touching. The gate was positioned at the top of an incline. Not only was the incline going straight up but it had a slope left to right. So as my rig proceeded further, the rear axle shifted over and I was left like so...

I had stopped and asked for the ruling before any part of the vehicle touched the gate. After proceeding straight forward, No part of the vehicle touched the gate and only 3 wheels went between the gate. I was awarded zero progress points and no penalty points.

You got lucky. It should have been -1 for progress +10 for the gate penalty.

Yup.
Dad said he recently went to a comp and put three tires through the gate but was told that he hadn't cleared the gate.
Doesn't make sense, if it's one tire per axle to clear a gate with penalty you can't possibly put three through and not have the gate considered cleared.
