Just spreading the word, we've got these units in stock ready to ship: Stage 3 Racing digs for the AX-10 trani, $84.99
We've sold quite a few to our local crawler guys and so far they are working really well. They build up easily, are very smooth, and have been holding up. No QC problems, no reworking it to make it function. Will post some pics soon.
PM or E-mail me for more info or pricing.

can you post a pic from above to show the overall width of the unit along with the servo being mounted with their mount? im wondering if it will work out in my chassis
mann0mann
02-25-2009, 02:46 PM
It's not a picture but the length for example from the front of the motor mount to the end of the servo mount is just over 2 3/4"
Also remember that the whole transmission is going to be mounted about 5/8" forward from stock position with this DIG too.
Hope this helps!

And, something new that will be out in a couple weeks! This part is super trick and the photos don't show how cool it really is. Keep in mind, this is a prototype, so production parts may change slightly.
This part combines the motor plate and the front trani case. So, when put together with the stage 3 dig, it makes an all aluminum trani case and motor plate.

HellBent: Yes, we should get that part in a week or so ... It will bolt right up to the existing S3R dig units.
Rok: Wait until you see it in person!
Thorne: I'll be doing a build thread next week and install it in my rig. I'm not hip on the video thing, but there will be plenty of pics. So far, the S3R digs have all worked flawless. No failures. No trouble with the components.

Jake an FYI I found out today, If someone has the ST Racing concepts skid plate to move the links inbound, the rod ends set above the tranny mount about .120 and keep the dig unit from sitting flush. So anyone using ST Racing concepts skids, will have to make a spacer to raise dig to clear the rod ends, Or use thicker skid plates like the one Stage 3 or East End Machine sells. I used the East End Mahine one and works perfect.

I tried putting mine in a SWX and the servo mounted the way it is was too wide. I know Dave is working on a mount to ensure it will fit in a SWX width. Jake may have more info on this than me.

Sub: You've found what you're looking for! The dig unit is selling for $84.99, shipping is $7.50 for UPS ground. The front aluminum motor mount/trani half should be ready in about a week. Not sure on pricing yet.
Rok: Yes, I did add the front steel outdrive to the build. I'm sorry I didn't have time for a full build thread, but I wanted to get the pics up asap.
Rpp: Yes, as with any dig that incorporates the trani housing, some shimming will be needed to clear aftermarket skid plates. But, the S3R offers two sets of mounting holes (shown in one of the pics) so you can move the hole trani and dig forward. this will help clear links. but, it will not help with low CG skid plates.
Timz: The new servo mount might take care of the clearance problem. But, if not, there's an easy fix of mounting the dig servo to the left side chassis plate. If Roksloski would be nice enough to bring down his rig, I'll get a picture posted. He's got an R2 in right now, but the concept is the same for either trani ....

the dig servo mounts in the same spot, weather you run a Stage3 Racing dig
or an R2D
just one side of the servo will mount one hole higher with the S3R dig
the outher side will get a longer spacer
good luck......

That's the good thing about these digs(DNA too) is that the two holes on top of the dig make it easy to fab up a plate to put the servo wherever it has to go, no matter what chassis you have, if you don't have the room for a chassis mounted servo.

noob question alert the servo mount that comes with the S3R dig looks like it only accaept regular sized servos, isn't the 225 a mini servo, and if so how did you get it to fit right:?:

Well, I'm not using the S3R mount, yes that mount is only for a full size servo. I made my own mount for the 225. It is pretty tight in the SWX, but it is working well. S3R is coming out with a 225 sized mount, but it will be awhile yet. A pic of what I did, it uses the mini servo mount from the DNA dig kit: http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo38/gunnarax10/servomt.jpg

Any news on the front case/motor mount piece... ETA? I'm also wondering if it would mount up to the stock rear case? I'm wondering if this part has the normal mounting holes in the bottom, as there are on the stock front half?
I'm asking because I see that the S3R dig has it's own mounting holes. And I want to use this part without the S3R unit.

I'd like to hear some commets on the function of the dig before making up my mind. It does look promising:shock: I like the idea of 5 points of engagement for the dig vs 4 on the DNA. How does it engage/disengage under load? Is anyone running this dig in a GC-2 chassis? Is it rebuildable? If so will you stock the parts and how much?8)

Mine worked very well over the weekend. I did have some minor sticking coming out of dig when fully bound up .... But, when double checking my build it appears I need to reassemble my outdrives to the center gear, as I have a slight wobble in that assembly, which is most likely causing the stiction.
It should drop right in a GC-2, plenty of room. No parts stocked yet, but I will have them if and when they are needed.

ok sweet, don't let this sound dumb please i'm still new to this crazy addiction. but just browsing seeing what i can do but is this the only stuff i have to buy for a dig or do i have to buy a new peice for the rear shaft as well? and right now i currently only have a futaba 2 ch radio would i be able to use a dig with only 2 ch or could i mod my remote to be able to do so?
See65
03-23-2009, 07:43 PM
All you need to do to the rear drive shaft is shorten the one you have.As far as the radio u will need 3 channels to run the dig.
JasonF88
03-23-2009, 07:49 PM
3 ch remote and receiver right?

Correct.
JPH Racing
03-23-2009, 09:56 PM
Jason: Are you using the stock drivelines? If so, cutting the rear shafts is easy.
You need a 3 channel radio, with end point adjustments and a 3 position switch (2 if you only want 4wd and dig). I've been reccomending the Spektrum DX3R system, works awesome and easy to set up.
Don't worry about the questions, keep them coming!

yes i am using the stock shafts on my ax10. now is there any way i could use a dig and a rear steering kit if i use a mixer and do the tq3 mod or buy a modded one with epa pots already? i'm trying to go all out comp here. there aint any comps around here not even any local courses but after i get this monster built and get my spare one in a better running condition i'm gonna start flying out to comps and joining up with all of you guys to have some fun.
EDIT: could i use this instead of having to get a radio with end point adjustments? this

Jason: No rear steer for comps, that's why the dig was invented. The EPA modded TQ should work fine! Stay away from mixers, as there's too big of a delay.
There's crawler guys everywhere. Maybe start a club or group in your area?

ok so no rear steer but will that stretcher be appropriate to use with my dig instead of having a remote with end point adjustments, or would this (http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=81&products_id=937) solve my problem without having to use a stretcher?

If you use a radio without epas you need a stretcher.

would this (http://www.clodmodracing.com/products/index.php?product=Computer) be a good idea?

Jason: Stay clear of the mixer, but the radio looks interesting. It does not say whether it's a 3 postion 3rd channel, you might want to find that out ....
Bubba: Not sure what you're asking? Did you get the right thread? LOL

Can you use stock length drive shafts with this dig or do the have to use the shortened shafts like the Thunder Tech MIP shafts
Thanks

stock is way to long... i just cut my stock axial DL untill my thundertech mip ones show up...
also. anyone wanting to run the lower clearence link on the inside will need to raise the tranny/dig unit about 1/8" for the link ends... im using traxxas ends, this might be different for other applications

Thanks JPH for that fast shipping, it got to me last Friday. I installed it over the weekend and needless to say I'm very impressed with this dig unit. S3R's machining and precession is unmatched. Every single piece fits correctly and operates smoothly.
Over the next week I'll be working and camping on Hualalai (another Hawaiian Volcano). While I'm there, I'll be spending my free time testing it out. I got to drive it around a little yesterday and I'm impressed with how smoothly the dig engages and disengages from all three positions. I think Hualalai volcano will be a good test. If I remember I'll snap some pictures.
Oh... For anyone wondering, it fits very nicely (and easily) into the DNA SlingShot.
Thanks again. "thumbsup"

As I stated in a previous post, this unit fits very nicely into the DNA SlingShot. Here is a picture of that:

Last week I did some testing on Hualalai Volcano, a volcano with some really sharp and nasty rocks which resulted from a post shield Alkali stage magma similar to Stromboli style eruptive features.

I am very impressed with this dig unit. I had time to drive two packs through it. I never had any problems with the dig engaging or disengaging from any of the three positions, it was always very smooth.
JPH thanks for getting it to me so quickly, S3R you've got a very excellent product.

No problem. I figured some folks might want to see it installed in a SlingShot.
Since most of this island is lava fields, I'd say that I am in Crawler Heaven. But some of the terrain around here, in particular... A'a lava fields, could be called Crawler Hell as soon as you start breaking parts. The terrain in the pictures are a mix of both A'a and Pahoehoe lavas otherwise known as transision lava fields, making for some pretty brutal testing grounds. Fortunately this dig unit held up just fine in that terrain. 8)

I cant remember when I installed this thing for some damn reason.. (Stupid brain!!) but I bought one from Jake when he was first getting stock, before they hit the display case. But I know I've been thrashing on my rig pretty hard and heavy for the last few months, and I know I dont have the lightest rig on the block, so it's had a good workout.
Way to go stage 3 !"thumbsup":)

not only do they look good, but they can handle abuse when set up properly. i have one with a 40 turn motor on a 3s lipo, mip driven, to axles that have under/over drive r&p's. i have a slipper clutch but it is locked also. i can change the course before i break parts with this piece of functional jewelry"thumbsup"
