Hey guys,
I am still relatively new to rock crawling, but I've been bit by the bug to upgrade everything with my small budget. So far my wheely king has a Gear Reduction unit, CKRC servo mount, Proline 8 Shooter Rims, Proline Hammer G8 tires, Hitec HS-645MG servo, Spektrum SR300 receiver, and full metal Transmission gears. I also have a Novak Rooster Crawler on the way, do you guys ever use the "water break in" method for your motors?
After all these little mods, the truck does climb a lot better- but still seems very top heavy. I would like a crawler that's more capable to do competitions, what chassis would you recommend? My budget is $240.00 MAX including the transmission if one if needed. I was looking at the Diablo 2.2 chassis with R2 Dig transmission. Would you recommend this setup? or are there better setups for my budget that would be able to utilize as many parts off my Wheely king as possible?
At first I wanted the AX10, then the Kyosho Rock Force, then Losi crawler that should be coming out in whatever time- and now I have to decided on giving a shot at a crawler that's a little more custom.
Thanks again. "thumbsup"
i think you need to decide what trans you want to use first, and then get a chassis/make one to fit around that. to do that, you really need to decide what direction you want to take your WK. ie, comp - r2, basher - axial/clocked WK, etc.
to make it semi compable, you could clock the stock trans since you have already invested money into it, but i'd lose the gru with those tires, and go from there.
and it also depends on how much you can make yourself/save yourself some money when it comes to your budget
pick an end result and start adding up parts to try to get a better idea of what you want vs. your budget and find a happy medium

well pretty much I wanted to build around the R2 transmission because it looks good to me. I plan to keep changing up parts until I have enough spares to build up anothoer crawler. So the WK trans wouldn't go to waist, it'd just be sitting around a little while that's all.
I was looking at the Diablo kit itself, but I'd end up changine the wheels, and a few other parts anyway so it'd be more fun to just do a slow buildup with whatever components I already have.
My goal was to build something that could climb better than the stock WK chassis and be competition ready if need be. Which is why I was looking at the R2 transmission since it has DIG.

How about the black widow chassis, axial trans with hr dig unit. Then grab some rustler shocks and your in total would be
chassis 40
axial trans 40
dig 40
shocks 15-20
total is 135-140
leave ya 100 bucks for some upgrades elsewhere
the chassis comes with lower delrin links and is a very good performer

How would the Black widow chassis compare to the Diablo? Because I don't mind spending more if that's going to get me the better comp ready crawler. I also liked the idea of being able to just bolt on a rol cage for the chassis once I save up a little more money.
the WK is awesome and a great platform, but with your limited budget, I think you'll be better off starting with an axial and upgrading as time/need warrants

you really think so? bummer, feels like I just wasted a bunch of money then. :-(
This budget is only limited to just a chassis and trans. I would keep upgrading it after that as well. Just wanted to run a different chassis and trans since the WK's stock chassis has a high CG.
Can you suggest any other options I may have as far as chassis?

Any chassis will work great, you just need to set up for comps.
I would get a ax-10 or R2 tranny
Skid with inboard lower links for double triagulation
For the chassis: I don't know the name of it but one that is skinnier with the motor sticking out the side. I think it comes with the skid.

I actually just placed an order for the MFM Black Widow Chassis- and then order the AX10 trans and CKRC dig unit. I was looking at the Diablo chassis, but the Black Widow took the win with it's much lower price.

Alright guys, heres the plan so far.
I just ordered the MFM Black Widow chassis, hopefully it shows up this week. I also plan to order an AX10 tranny and CKRC FT dig unit with servo mount tonight if you guys give me the green light. What else would I need to complete this conversion?
Current build specs:
Wheely King
-HPI Crawler conversion
-Hitec HD-645MG servo
-Spektrum DX3S with SR300 RX
-Rooster Crawler esc and 55t Motor
-CKRC metal Gear conversion for Tranny
-CKRC servo to axle mount
-Proline 8 Shooter beadlocks
-Proline M8 Hammer
Things needed for the build:
-AX10 Transmission
-CKRC FT Dig unit with servo mount and 4130 chromoly outputs
-MFM Black Widow Chassis (on the way)
-Traxxas T-Maxx shocks or Losi 4" Crawler shocks
Thats all I can think of, is there anything I'm missing for my build? so I can order it all tonight.
Thanks again guys "thumbsup"

No thoughts on any extra things I may need to complete the build?

I think the AX tranny is a 5mm output, and the WK is a 6mm. Might have to get an adapter or make a drive line.

The solution has been resolved. I just ordered an AX10 ARTR haha. "thumbsup"
I'll keep the WK as is and put the old electronics back on it so my buddy can have a crawler to use as well.
Also have the Black Widow chassis probably coming in tomorrow. So when the AX10 gets here (maybe next week) I should have a more comp ready crawler. Also thinking about upgrading to Bully axles in the distant future.
