Hey guys been thinking of some more ways to beef the axle ends up...wondering if you all could get a bigger axle nut and nut driver inside your wheels?
I did some checking and I think a 5mm axle shaft would help stop the threaded section from bending...I have VP wheels and I check this morning and I can EASILY run a bigger 5mm shaft and nut.....this size axle made from high quality 300m or 4340 cromoly would make these axles indestructible!!
so we know VP wheels past the test...what do you other bully owners have for wheels? and can you fit this size nut driver in the hole for the axle nut?

here is the 5mm bolt next to a 4mm V3 stub...
you don't even need a custom nut to fit my VP wheels..

i run the same wheels as you so i say they can go ahead and make the change! wink wink! This does look like a viable solution to the problem though! I like where this could go, just hope its not too late...

Try that wrench on other wheels you guys have as well.
Also try other 5mm wrenches in the Vanquish rims.
I will send this thread to Mike so he can have a look. "thumbsup"

My new axles have 5mm threads on the stub axles. I use my glow plug / wheel nut wrench from my nitro trucks.... "thumbsup""thumbsup" and the 5mm nuts and needed wrench fit great in the Mayhem Eng. CDP wheels. I can post pictures if needed.

Were you running the V3 Stubs with a flanged nut or just using a nut and washer or just the nut and no washer? I agree the 5mm thread would be better and add alot more material. "thumbsup"

I was running nyloc nut and a washer...
the reason I posted this pic with those nuts was because they were the "biggest" nut for a 5mm bolt that I could find...my thinking was if this big one fit finding nuts to fit other places should be real easy!!
I think a flanged 5mm nyloc would be ideal....
Aaron thanks for posting up!! those look great!
so we know these wheels work so far...
Vanquish Products Dirty Harry's
Mayhem comps
????
yeah this could be some REALLY beefy improvements to these axles..."thumbsup"
I'm excited to see that at least 2 really popular wheels will work with 5mm shafts!! now we just need a few more people to check their wheels! I'm pretty sure RC4WD will consider this if most wheels work with the bigger shafts??? so far they have been really good about making improvements so I think our chances are good??

his must be custom...I have not seen or heard of any 5mm shafts until today..
maybe V4 will fix the issue?? I have not tried them myself so I cant say...I just thought if ALL or most popular wheel accepted a 5mm shaft them why not go EVEN more beef!:-P
BTW pretty sure v3 and v4 both have the same size threaded section but the V4 have been treated in some way???

no V4 have the skinny (smaller diameter) section that was behind the threads (between teh threads and the cup) has been removed its a larger diameter there, and its also an all new stronger steel.
old version (with smaller diameter shaft behind threads)
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j240/53willys/rccrawler/DSC_0672.jpg
V4s (same diameter as threads, and most importantly a much stronger steel)
this is the rear shaft, but it shows that part of the shaft, the front stub pic from RC4wd has the hex that hides this part)

EDIT: you can JUST see what im talking about in this pic, that neck down was removed, removing the weak point

ok yeah I see what your talking about...that should help forsure....but if we can get 5mm shafts on most wheels that should be enough to talk/convince RC4WD to make a V5...???

...that should help forsure....
HUGE understatement
with the weak point removed, and the new steel/hardening added on top of that. honestly i dont think a V5 or 5mm version will be needed. will be as strong if not stronger than any other stub on the market. now if someones being stupid with there axles, no amount of beef can fix that. (10' falls etc)
however in your defence, it would be a very quick fix to make the V4s have 5mm shafts before production. a very quick tool and path change.;-)

For someone who has broke one of your v1 or v2 bully stubs, may I suggest that you drill and tap the end of the stub to allow a 5mm bolt to thread in the hub sufficently. Lock tight the threaded portion, cut off the bolt head and redrill the pin hole. And bam...you have an unbreakable cvd with a 5mm thread like you want for cheap.

any other bully owners that can check their wheels and fitment of a 7 MM nut driver??
since RC4WD is gonna make 5mm V5's regardless I guess it doesn't matter too much...but I would still like to see and hear from other bully owners with other brand wheels/beadlocks...?

Why would anyone run anything other than Vanquish DH Pro Comps?

Just make the V5's an Upgrade customer can buy if they want. It's like upgrading any other axle to a bigger stonger axle. You have to buy it. There not that expensive to buy just the axles.

why not a longer 8mm part and a long M4 or M5 set screw instead of the stub
