This is going to be awesome.

Walking distance from "junk food alley." It will be eager to fulfill all your fried cheese, corn dogs, and funnel cake desires.

Also walking distance from two beer tents. Cold beer, live rock n roll, and plenty of "scenery8)" to live the American dream.

Oh yeah, and the crawling should be awesome too. Don't miss this one.

I think Seth said they will be working on it the week before. That should give us the chance to keep an eye on them and make suggestions as they go. It should be pretty awesome, the Parks Dept. seem pretty stoked about out our 3 Rivers events. (We also are running a VTA road race the weekend before.)

The comp is during the 3 Rivers Festival some 30 odd or so years running. It a pretty big 9 day series of events and general partying and festival type stuff. Most of the fun will be centered around Headwaters Park and well within walking distance.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Fort+Wayne&state=IN&address=385+S+Clinton+St&zipcode=46802-1221&country=US&latitude=41.083975&longitude=-85.139341&geocode=ADDRESS

This is the general park area we'll be comping in the north west area of the park near the river likely parking on the end of Calhoun (near jail) or on a side street parking off Harrison along the river near the west edge of the park.

The 3RF committee has a list of Crawler related vendors and is supposed to score some door prizes:023: and such. We are following up with that this week, unfortunately they seem a little put off on the low initial entry list most folks (myself included) have not mailed entry yet :shrug2: , but I have submitted for the day off work.

info about the Rock the Fort comp is starting to come in, and its better than I had first thought.

There will be a cash pay out to 1st-3rd
1st $500
2nd $250
3rd $ 100

Hmm Three Rivers Festival only reports having 1 entry that would be Ben. I guess he gets the $500 for just showing up!

Also door prizes are confirmed I just do not have the info on what they are.

Sorry Mark must have missed your post . I don't thing there is a cut and dry cutoff, as long as they recieve it in the mail before the event. I'd say get it sent in no later that next Monday or Tuesday, that would allow 3-4 days for snail mail.

Seth and I were just discussing that this afternoon. There will be a limited number of power receptacles but given the low charge rate for most crawlers they should be plenty. You will be responsible for you own chairs.

We will have a few 8 foot tables available, and there are some nice weeping willow trees that provide shade all day but they are across the sidewalk. about 30 feet away. If you would prefer up-close to the course there is plenty of open grass field sectioned off just for us but you will need to bring you own shade:shock:.

This is shaping up to have a large entry list likely 3 hours just getting the first 2 courses in. If sufficient people are present we may start at 11:00am, not to worry those showing up last minute expecting a 12:00 start time will still have a few hours to get the first 2 courses in.

Carbonuts I sent David Kinsington an E-mail with the PDF, I'd be happy to send it to you as well just need you E-mail address....I don't know why the link doesn't work?

Alright guys, we were going to go over this at the drivers meeting but I figure you all are big boys and good look over it.

Start Gates are live, time and scoring start when truck breaks the plane, finishes will be a line, time and scoring stop when the truck breaks the plane.

All penalties will be called out so the driver will know exactly what they are penalized for.

Boundaries, the purpose of the boundary is to keep the truck in and unnecessary human obstacles out, we are not measuring every blade of grass but an obvious infraction will be scored,
Only judges and current competing driver allowed within the boundaries

Reverses are any time the tires move the vehicle backward or rotate in the reverse direction, minute movement caused by dig will likely be ‘overlooked’ but if your drive train is sloppy enough to roll way back then prepare to eat a penalty, ULTIMATELY IT WILL BE THE JUDGES CALL AND WILL BE CONSISTENT FOR EVERYONE

Gate clearing: The 20 and past rule is in effect.

ALL 4 WHEELS must pass between the gates without touching the gate to receive progress with out some sort of gate penalty

All Floating Wheels will need to be corrected PRIOR to making additional forward progress or a gate penalty will be given.

Progress is the front and rear axle completely passed the gate. If you drive, roll, bounce, fall down hill and create progress but do not get all 4 wheels between the gates it will be scored as a Gate with Progress, unless the gate puts you at 20 before progress is made.

Any touch, intentional or unintentional by the driver will result in a reposition to last cleared gate. In the case of a falling or tumbling vehicle judges will be deemed as part of the course.

Ties will be decided by
1) The lowest score on the last course,
2) The fastest time on the last course.
3) The fastest overall time.

DRIVERS There are a lot of competitors so lets please have trucks ready so we can run continuously and not have to wait for drivers to start.

Approximate based on 25 drivers (may be revised once final entries are in)
1st & 2nd courses will be open till 2pm then judges will run 1 & 2 and set-up course #3
3rd course will open at 2:30 till 5:45 pm then judges will run and set-up the Top 5 course
Top 5 finals course will be 7:15 till 7:45

"Only judges and current competing driver allowed within the boundaries"

so are you saying no spoters ..... or can a driver have just 1 spoter for their run. I understand keeping random people away from and off of the course is needed, but using a spoter is normal at big events.

Just a question ... Thanks

In the case of a falling or tumbling vehicle judges will be deemed as part of the course.

why should the driver be given 10 points for hiting a judge that is in there way? It is the judges job to stay out of the way of a moving, falling, rolling truck.

Touch should be based on the driver, not the people that can not get out of the way!

??????? How many gates per course and what is the time limit ??????

Thanks,

i might have missed this, if i did .... sorry

How will roll overs be handeled ??

On the 20 and go for a gate ? do you add the 20 to the curent points on that gate or are you rounding up to 20 at that point?

Sorry for all the question's, i'm just trying to save time on the drivers meeting the day of the comp "thumbsup"

I don't see a proplem with a spotter, the idea of this was to keep people back so the driver was not tripping over any unneeded obstacles.

why should the driver be given 10 points for hiting a judge that is in there way? It is the judges job to stay out of the way of a moving, falling, rolling truck.

Not sure I follow you thought on these 2 statements, were just thinking a judge trying to get a close look at a gate and a driver with an ichy trigger finger and don't want judges backpeddling and falling, in reality there are only a few spotts where this will even be a concern.

??????? How many gates per course and what is the time limit ??????
8-10 gates and likely be 6 minutes

How will roll overs be handeled ??
From the side by the driver or judge

On the 20 and go for a gate ? do you add the 20 to the curent points on that gate or are you rounding up to 20 at that point?
You hit 20 your past, with 20 max.

Ok, I just want to double check a few things

Yard opens for set up at 10am ..... we can bring EZ ups "I hope"
Driving starts at 12pm "noon"

when will we need to sign in ?
when are we teching trucks ?
when will the drivers meeting be?

I'm just trying to plan my leave time for saturday

Thanks

Sorry I took so long to respond, I've been with out internet for 2 days :(

Yard will open about 8:30 I'd like to give every one about 30-45 minutes open time.

Sign in when you get there, Tech trucks at that time

As posted earlier we would prefer to start at 11 instead of noon, providing enough people are there by then and no objections.

Drivers meeting at 10:45

Tentative schedule is

open crawl course 1 & 2 from 11-2 (pending total entry count)
judges crawl and set-up course #3 2-2:45ish
Course 3 open 3-5:30 ish
judges run and set-up #4, top 5 run 6:15 -

Again this is assuming we need to move 25-30 entries along, currently only 15 entries turned in, so if there are no late arrivals tomorrow, we will adjust accordingly.

The sheep deeler won.
Derick second.
Miller third.

I'm sure Seth will post final tallies before too long. Good crawling all day by the top 10 guys. Brian just totally destroyed the third course making him nearly a lock with a 34 point lead going into the final course. MuMu was decent all day, had a few moments of extreme luck that looked like talent:oops:. I finished 8th.

We missed you man, you would have made an impression on the results I'm sure.

My buddy and I stopped by there on Saturday to watch and all I have to say is there sure are some immature whine asses that crawl. The whole half hour we sat there and watched it was a bunch of petty bickering between a few of the people about when the timer started, who was calling out stuff, who was and wasn't a judge.

Just wanted to know that there are some folks out there that give a negative first impression to people walking by.

No the plus side it did look like a very challenging course and there were a lot of little rigs sitting around. Maybe next year you guys could petition to get it put a little closer to the main areas.

Miller Tyme
07-19-2009, 06:39 PM
Apologies on the bickering, believe it or not it was between friends and both were judges at that, some times we do forget about impressions outside those whom are behind the scenes.

On that note I'd like to give my rundown on the event and make a few other apologies and explanations, and open the floor to others to do the same and hopefully improve this and other events.

First it most be noted that this was put on and the main decisions were controlled by the Three Rivers Festival Staff. Seth, Brian and Myself merely had a hand in logistics of day of event management and course design both within the limits of what they provided. This resulted in 2 big issues that we the Fort Wayne crew feel VERY BAD about.

First The Rocks provided. We were promised all of whatever kind of rock we needed, believe it or not the course closest to the path is initially what they gave us. Be beg bummed and even used our equipment to get more. This affected the practice course, the ability to run 3 open crawl courses, and the need to jump from course 1 to 2 to get a 3rd layout.

Second Door Prizes. They were provided a list of vendors, we even asked multiple time leading up to the event and volunteered to do it and they ensured us they had it under control and even had the prizes lined up. Obviously we should have done it ourselves.

Third the actual running of the event. We tried our best to keep it fair minimal running of the course ahead of time was done and that was merely to determine what was and wasn't possible and even at that there were changes to the course Friday and the last of the rock did not even show till Wednesday. Of the top 5 only 2 had ever seen the course before and as close as the scores were (Brian's great 3rd run aside) I say things looked as even as possible.

A question of boundaries came up, as far as I can tell no-one actually received a boundary penatly. It was mentioned at the meeting that since the paint was forgot and since the intention was not to give penalties but rather keep rediculous trek to a minumim and keep the course clear for drivers, that we would just verbaly agree to keep things resonable and not have a marked boundary, enough said.

All that said I still think it was a success, and rest assured Seth and I have already said IF it is done again next year then
1) They know and we openly expressed our need for more large rocks next time.
2) Cash pay-out was a bad idea and we would rather have bought raffle prizes.
3) Temperature variations effecting rock traction will be taking in to account, those damn courses were hard.

So all that said I had a blast and feel most did also but I am sure some are to polite to discuss concercns, but please do, only lets try to keep it constructive.

Easy Ben....look at his post count, he is a crawler and frankly he told us how things appear from outside and I appreciate that. Can't grow the hobby that way. Personnally I think we had better response from spectators before the comp.....when the DAMN money wasn't on the line

all in all you guys did a great job its tough to put on an event when you don't have total control over all, and where else can you compete for money and the guys you are competing with are helping you "great work drivers ". it was great meeting some new people and old friends.............Tim "thumbsup""thumbsup"

Anyone else have a problem with the $? If so let me know I'll send you a check so we can get on with this.

I am not sure if rock crawling is the same everywhere? But, one thing about this great group of guys that we have is the willingness for everyone to help eachother. Whether its on their rig or finding that perfect 1/8" of rock, or the "lock the front and drive the rear".

No other type of RC I have been envolved in have I witnessed the willingness of competitors to help eachother win or lose. I think I get just as excited for a competitors truck to crawl the impossible as the driver does. Its amazing what these little trucks will do.

I havn't been crawling very long but I will say I am not going anywhere because of the great group of guys I get to crawl with. Not the money or prizes.

I must agree with Brian, I've been racing along time and outside of the closet group of friends competition is ruthless, Crawling is so nice because it truly seems as if everyone just wants to see somebody raise the bar so they know it can be done"thumbsup" and all the drivers are willing to help....

Yeah, my comments weren't meant to start stuff. Just wanted to give you an idea of what an observer that wasn't in the comp would think. I know when my buddy and I start bitching at each other you'd think we hated each other, but its all in jest.

I also know what its like to deal with municipalities when you try to do something that they have no experience with. The good thing is going forward you guys have set a benchmark so you will have a lot more information for next year's comp.

I think one that that may be nice in the future would be a sign with some of the basic rules for people that don't know whats going on.

You guys might also be able to make some cash with the rent a crawler idea that Twisted has up this way. I know I would have rented one for a few minutes to give the course a try since mine wasn't rock ready yet.

Anyway, had we had more time I would have loved to stay and watch some more. I almost find as much fun in watching RC's as running them.

I would like to thanks everyone involved for putting on a great event. It was a fun day crawling and hanging out with friends. As far as any whine ass stuff going on, i must have been at a different comp. This is a great group of guys that came together in Fort Wayne to crawl and promote the hobby. So did people see whine behavior or good friends picking on each other only they will know. Now from what i see here no paid drivers have had anything bad to say which is all that matters. I as a driver paid for an entry, drove 3 hours one way and had a blast and will be back again. Judges and the rule were covered 100% in the drivers meeting, thanks by the way. "thumbsup"

Just a few side notes:

My buddy and I stopped by there on Saturday to watch Thank You for stoping to watch and all I have to say is there sure are some immature whine asses that crawl. WOW, This is a great group of guy to crawl with, You might not want to go to a large national event if you think this was bad. The whole half hour we sat there and watched it was a bunch of petty bickering between a few of the people about when the timer started, time starts when the truck cross's the start line who was calling out stuff, judge's normally call out the points who was and wasn't a judge. judge's were named in the drivers meeting

Just wanted to know that there are some folks out there that give a negative first impression to people walking by. I'm sorry that friends having fun poking and picking at each other was scaring off people that were walking by from buying a crawler and enjoying the hobby. I know many people that walked by were very happy to see the family fun that crawling has. I only say this because alot of drivers were also there driving with their sons some as young as 8.

Family Fun Hobby i think would be a plus "thumbsup"
Friends enjoying a hobby on a beatiful day, a plus "thumbsup"
sorry if all of this looked to be negative

Now the plus side it did look like a very challenging course yes they were and there were a lot of little rigs sitting around. Maybe next year you guys could petition to get it put a little closer to the main areas. this could maybe be ok, but i for one liked it where it was. There was over $3000 setting there on every table in those little rigs, so having a lot of non drivers just walking around could open up to some issues.

I'm glad you stoped by, i hope next year more drivers will show up because this was a great day of crawling with friends "thumbsup"

Thanks for putting on a fun comp
