Hey Crawlerado, I'm trying to plan other stuff to do with the family while in CO. I should be getting into town sometime on that Thursday, so will have a couple of days to kill.. Has anyone been to that Royal Gorge Bridge?

If so, is it worth the 2 hr. trip south to check it out?


Any other ideas,places to check out while in Denver? (besides going to RCC HQ's and crashing the RCCtv segment :lmao::lmao:)

IMHO no!! It's $22.00 per adult and $17.00 per 4-11 year old. To walk across a large bridge. It is pretty cool, but there's really not much else there. If I were you I would look into going into Rocky Mountain National Park http://www.nps.gov/romo/ It'll be much cooler that time a year then will the Royal Gorge. The views and wild life are much more worth the money $20 per car/truck, then the what you'll see at the Royal Gorge. It is also closer to the comp site and you would also be able to go to Estes Park, http://www.estesnet.com/ and if you were to go all the way through the park to Grand Lake http://www.grandlakechamber.com/ it is a also nice place to visit.

Not sure if you were looking into taking the family on the Rail Road ride they have at the Royal Gorge, but if so an alternative could be The Georgetown Loop Rail Road. Also not nearly as far as the Royal Gorge. It's less then an hour west on I-70.

I agree if you just want to check out the mountains, you could always drive over loveland pass and breath deep.
Or go hike up to Saint Marys glacier, or kill yourself going up Grey's and Torreys.
Personally my favorite summer activity is going up St. Mary's drinking one beer and being housed."thumbsup"

Redrocks is really close to Heritage Square. Its kinda of cool for little kids. www.heritagesquare.info/ Maybe while your at the comp your family can go...."thumbsup"

I agree, not fond of the Royal Gorge trip. Colorado Springs is about 1hr to 1hr and half drive from the comp spot. You can come down and check out

Garden of the Gods-- http://www.gardenofthegods.com/ --Mostly just checking out the rocks and Formations. Very similar to the REd Rocks area. This is free.

Manitou Springs--- http://www.manitousprings.org/ Not much to do other than to walk around and check out the old shops. Cool little area though.


PIkes Peak/ Cog Railway-- http://www.cograilway.com/ --Little pricey for the train ride but is pretty cool. Not good if scared of heights!!
You can always drive your car to the top also. Make sure the brakes have been checked.

The last 3 are all in the same area of town.

Seven Falls is nice also- http://www.sevenfalls.com/home/index.cfm Just a (small) waterfall that you can hike to the top of it.

Cheyenne Mtn Zoo-- http://cmzoo.org/ Pretty cool Zoo, built on the side of a mountain. Yes, you will be tired.

Broadmoor-- http://www.broadmoor.com/ Unless you are made of money, not much to do here other than look:-P Nice to drive around and see how the rich folk live. Nice houses.

The last 3 are all in the same area of town.



Most of CO is getting out and hiking, biking or walking somewhere to see something.

Mount Evans (http://www.mountevans.com/) is the highest paved road in North America and is really close to Red Rocks area. Nice drive and a wonderful view of the Rocky Mountians.

I agree with the others on Royal Gorge. But driving up Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs is pretty cool and Rocky Mountian National park is awesome too.

another idea:
The ski areas will be open for summer biking/hiking season. for like $10-12 per person you can take the chairlift up and hike or bike down. (or sit at the bottom, drink beer and watch the crazy downhill mtn bikers!!)

Keystone or Winter Park are the closest to denver

Being from the cornfields of Indiana, I thought the Gorge was pretty cool!! I don't remember it costing that much when I was there though (1997). The day I was there, its started snowing and the bridge was snow covered. Plus my ex-wife was scared shitless of the bridge.

Pike's Peak would be a must!! That's one cool drive!!

The ski towns are cool too. I liked Aspen. Aspen is probably a litte too far to drive, but I'm sure there are others closer. Ski lift ride is worth it. We just don't have hills like that around here.

Oh everyone should go to Heritage square and ride the Alpine slide, if you go fast enough you can fly off the track."thumbsup"
Plus its about ten minutes from the comp location.

If you want to go to a theme park, go to elitch gardens (http://www.elitchgardens.com/), not lakeside. Lakeside is a rickety old gang infested dump.

Guanella Pass is absolutely beautiful. It's not very far away, but it is a long drive. Worth every second for you lowland guys.

It is still here, specially with still being laid off :x

In all honesty, it's the wife's idea and is the one pushing us to go as we have never really taken a "family" vacation, besides 2 days here or 2 days there in TN...We have wanted to go to Co. since about 2005 and this was the perfect chance to use crawling as an excuse to go :lol::lol:

x2 Estes park is cool and Rocky Mountain National Park is beautiful. If you go, take the drive all the way through the park from Estes to Grand Lake like Rogue suggested. You won't be disappointed.

The Royal Gorge is not really worth the drive. When you pull up to the entrance, it feels like you arrived at a crappy carnival with a bridge.
