Ok, so i am looking for something a little different with the completion of this truck.
First we start with a scale engine block to house the 540 size motor:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4d623b3127cceb3dcb78797750000001610
Then we add the tranny and t-case

Next we add revolver shackles

75% of frame cut.

There is still a ways to go with the engine intake, belts, pullies and turing fan. The chassis was finished today, sorry no pics. Lots of work to go, but a fun project.

Cool. 8) Is that body from a Radio Shack RC? I have one sitting in the closet waiting to be put to use - maybe when I build my second TLT. ;)

what are the springs from and how hard were they to get
CrawlinForLife

Springs look like those from a Jugg. Very cool project. Can't wait to see what the finished engine/trans/transfer looks like when your done with them.

Those are jugg springs and are about $25 for a set from tower.
Thanks guys

Here you go:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNM39&P=7
Keep in mind that tamiya has made various leaf springs over the years. THe mammoth had the stiffest with 5 leaves.
the jugg and semis each have 3 and are stiff,
the bruiser/mountaineer had 3 and are softer
the hilux/blazer had 3 and stiff.
jugg and mammoth springs offer the most arch.

looks sweet can you post some pics of how the springs are attached to the diff
Cool. 8) Is that body from a Radio Shack RC? I have one sitting in the closet waiting to be put to use - maybe when I build my second TLT. ;)

I am doing a begginer tlt for the boys, 10" wheelbase and 4.5" or under tires. I will see how it works. I think I am going to be surprized.
BTW: anybody lunch a front diff yet??? I think I am on my way to the
first one for me. I need jug axles.
sig_p232

If you look at the second pic, you can see how the diffs and springs mount. Basically flip them upside down and make a 1/4" stock piece with a hole to mount over the rivot in the spring and mount to the stock tlt link mount.

Sorry guys, no where near done yet.
As for the wheels and tires, I really like the wheels I have found, and unless I find some killer 2.2's I think i am going to stick with the wild willy wheels and tires.
As for the pic in the sig, I think that you go to the profile button and you can add a pic or what ever to the sig.
Unless you are refering to where i grabbed the picture, its from here:

nice jeep, it looks really scale. i have Qes. about the trasfer case how did u make and what kind of gears did u us in it. :?:
sig_p232
11-21-2004, 10:05 PM
The t-case was built using steel gears that came out of a drill. The case was milled out of aluminum. The t-case was not too hard to build using my mill, but before i purchase the mill and made the t-case for the dually, it was a royal pain in the ass. I used a 3/4" drill bit, dremel, file and hacksaw. That was a very painful, labor intensive project.
Here are a few more pics of the jeep, still not done.

The exhaust is done, the motor is mounted to run the fan and pullies up front and the main drive motor is installed. I drove it for the first time last weekend and it did pretty darn good.

Ok, so i am a little slow with pics on this beast. Here we go:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4cc10b3127cce9d8aa11d399400000016108AYs3DJs5ZNN
The front bumper is done and mounted. The carb, intake and air cleaner are also done. I mounted the Pk2 motor in the engine block and have run one pack through it and its pretty cool.
Now I need a firewall, mount the hood, paint, Aluminum box in the back of the jeep for the electronics and a full length rear skid to hide the battery. I am currently waiting on some new, beafier leaf springs for the truck. It is not too heavy, but there is a bit of weight up front because of the engine block so I needed heavier springs from the mammoth dump truck.

It's coming along great. Just a few things for realism. TJ jeeps have coils not leafs and the drag link should got to the passenger side knuckle not the driver side.
Now I don't feel so bad when someone tells me I have too much time on my hands for making my tube buggy.
Sweet rig that's for sure. I can't believe you made headers too that's pretty impressive.
sig_p232
01-05-2005, 08:56 PM
I must be a four link dope or something because everytime I build a 4 link I hate the way it drives. I have tried everything that I can think of and even purchased automotive design books and I still dont care for the way they drive. So while the rubicons do have coil springs, I perfer the feel of the leafs.
As for the drag link, that is something that was over looked  .
Thanks for all the great comments, and I love the headers too.

Well guys, here are some more updates:
The jugg 3 leaf packs have been replaced with mammoth 5 leaf packs. This was a huge help to support the weight of the engine block.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5df28b3127cce9e5115c4e25900000016108AYs3DJs5ZNN
Did I mention the hardtop that I custom made, and the hood is mounted.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5df38b3127cce9e9ce568cae100000016108AYs3DJs5ZNN
Now work on the beast is a pain in the rear, just like the real thing.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5df37b3127cce9e2c0864048200000016108AYs3DJs5ZNN
Then I moved the front shackles to the rear of the front leaf to move the axle forward about a quarter inch and to improve the suspension travel.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5df03b3127cce9ea2dcac3e7e00000016108AYs3DJs5ZNN
Finally, I have added some custom racing seats.

I aint that crazy, but yes, i fabbed the engine block, jack stands and more. I am running the axles upside down and the skids are off a jugg and they work pretty well. The truck is a good running little beast and you should be able to see a complete article in the February issue of RC Driver.

you can buy the jackstands pretty cheaply along with that engine hoist from harborfreight :)
thats a really killer project, I love the mini-z motor that turns the fan!

The jack stands at harbor frieght are pretty cool, but they are pretty big. I chewed those out of some aluminum about 2 years ago.
