Hi guys.. I apologise for asking a noob question. I'll be getting a Pajero Metaltop very soon. What are the electronics i have to get to make it run? Just the transmitter and batteries? If so, which particular model should i get?
Im still new to the RC world, so pardon me

And how do i go about waterproofing my cc01?

Thanx a million - Greetings from Singapore

You need to get a steering servo(might as well get a waterproof traxxas one to save some hassle), radio (traxxas TQ is cheap and works fine) As for waterproofing, most guys use a balloon and zip ties or make a waterproof box for the esc and reciever.

Thanks.. but it seems that quite a number or people uses the Hitec HS-645MG servo, should i get that instead of the traxxas?

the pajero wont benefit a lot from the hitec so the traxxas is fine for a steering servo.

i see. what about transmitter and receiver then? which particular one is recommended? and batteries?

sorry for the endless questions :-P

any 6-cell stick pack battery will work in the truck. You can get the batteries from your local hobby shop (LHS), amazon.com sells them and vendors here do to. I recommend Chris' batteries though-cheapbatterypacks.com. same price as store bought but better packs.

any transmitter will be fine. traxxas tq2 or tq3 are inexpensive and work fine. the tq3 has a third channel so you could control lights on extra channel if you ever got the light kit for the paj. radios just get more expensive from there. for about $180 you could get a 2.4Ghz synthesized radio which will prevent any interference. thats worthwhile but you can get by with a non synthesized or non spektrum radio just fine. I have several radios, one 2.4ghz, and only occasionally find they get interference.

so if i were to install the LED kit and a winch, i would have to get a 4 channel transmitter? do transmitters come with their own receiver as well?

at least a 3 channel. some light kits have a Y adapter that lets you use existing channels. or you could just go with the 9v battery lights. i likes those because all of your lights, wiring and battery can stay connected to the body.

I run LED's off a 9V battery taped to the rig somewhere..and just run a switch to turn them off and on. Get something that fits your budget to get you running...then save up to something you REALLY need/want

you could also run a Y adapter so the lights are always on when the rig is on. connected directly to the power.
then you only need 3 channel. with a winch you need to get a radio with a 3way switch on the third channel (on-off-on). the tq3 can be modified easily to do this.

thanks a lot guys for useful info... now at least i have a headstart on the things i have to get.. as for batteries, which particular one should i get, one that can last?

The Hitec is cheap, its a servo with metal gears that wont strip. Traxxas has a waterproof metal gear servo. Its a little more expensive, but if your going for waterproof, thats what your going to want to do. Make sure you drill drain holes in your chassis too, otherwise you get a bathtub.

I use a Tamiya light kit. You get the light unit, and it comes with two strands of lights, and you can use up to eight strands. It turns on and off from a switch on the light unit. As for the winch, I have seen some winches that are like a servo where they plug into a channel on your reciever. The Traxxas TQ3 transmitter and reciever can work well with the winch. I have seen some people do a simple mod to the controller so the third channel switch can move the third channel in three ways: in, out, and still. I have seen a couple threads about those mods.

Traxxas doesnt make a metal gear servo. They make 2 waterproof ones, the digital 2075 and the 2056. I still have the original 2075s in my slash and e-revo brushless and haven't blown any gears in them yet. It's more than enough turning power for your little cc-01. But if you do somehow waste the gears, they are like 3 bucks for a replacement set.

thanks for the valuable info guys. anyway, i have someone who's offering me a spectrum dx2.0 transmitter with 3 channel receiver.. would it be suitable for the cc-01?

I'm pretty happy with my dx3.0. I haven't used a 2.0 but I reckon it works the same. Only thing is though, you cant control a winch or anything with the 2.0

can anybody enlighten me on the difference between a Nicd and a Nimh battery?

and someone offered me the Futaba 4VWD AM Transmitter set at a relatively good price.. is it a good transmitter for my cc01?

A simple Google search will help you out with NiCd vs NiMH

• PERFORMANCE: NiMH batteries will greatly out-perform standard NiCd batteries in high-drain applications.
• VOLTAGE: The power produced by the battery. Both NiMH and NiCd have virtually the same voltage.
• CAPACITY: The amount of energy stored by the battery. NiMH has more than twice the capacity of standard NiCd. This results in much longer runs times (hours, # of pictures).
• MEMORY EFFECT: NiMH batteries can be charged or “topped-off” at any time without affecting battery life. In order to achieve optimum performance from NiCd batteries, they must be fully discharged before recharging. Unlike NiCd batteries, NiMH has No Memory Effect.
• ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: NiMH batteries have no Cadmium added. Cadmium is hazardous to the environment.

The Futaba 4VWD Tx will be fine if you want a stick radio.

Which battery pack or custom battery pack configuration is best for a CC01 running a Traxxis high torque servo and a Tamiya ESC?

jinspade

Good question, im wondering too. But i believe any 6 packs Nimh would suffice since the CC01 isn't as enery consuming as those racing cars

Need help guys...

I'm using Spektrum DX3.0 transmitter, and i cant seem to get my Pajero to reverse, unless i push the throttle twice... is it because of the stock Tamiya ESC?

Anybody here using the same transmitter? If yes, please guide me on the proper adjustments i should make.. i can't quite understand the manual...

Its the esc, it's not the best for crawling. When you hit reverse the first time its brake, then second its reverse.

Got it. Still saving up for the CC Sidewinder or Rooster Crawler..

Do u run BEC on your Sidewinder?

BEC is recommended when you got hungry steering servo that stall or want your steering to be a touch livelier. 6 amps should be enough to get you there.

Do a search and you'll find more on this in the forum."thumbsup"

I don't mind the "double pump reverse" on my Tekin...not for a crawler..but works great for the trail running.

There is absolutely nothing you can touch on the remote that will make an ounce of difference to the delayed reverse. Tamiya designed it that way so people would'nt strip gears in cars by slamming it into reverse hence the double action. If you want a good reliable and cheap ESC definitely look at the Losi 0811 mini crawler ESC $40 NIB (as suggested by Blackfoot) or alternatively check the forsale section as there is always 2nd hand ones for $15.00 upwards. I have one fitted to my CC01 Mu with a high torque servo and no BEC and it works flawlessly. It has no delay in reverse and 100% brake and its perfect for these little rigs, i'm no expert but I don't see the need for a CC or Rooster ESC unless you want to run at serious speeds ?

As for the stickpack batteries NIMH is the only way to go, they have no memory so you dont have to run them dead flat to recharge them, they last longer then Nicd as well. I run a 4600mah NIMH in my Mu and I can average 1-1.5 hrs out of it .... I also run a 4200 Lipo in the same vehicle and I have manged to get 2-3 hrs run time.

its your esc that determines the response, not the radio so much. what esc you running?

Opps my bad I was working with numbers when I was typing LOL.

I get 2.5 - 3.5 hrs out of my 4600 nimh and over 6hrs on my lipo. Last GTG we had my lipo went 6.5hrs and still had lots of juice left in it the following day.
