Well, since I won a Beetlejuice chassis from Krawlfreak at Y-Town Crawlers on this website, I decided to build it up with a set of Bully axles from RC4WD.
Specs:
Beetlejuice Bodiless Chassis
Bully Axles
Losi Crawler Shocks
Slash springs
KK Bent Delrin Lowers
35T Fantom Motors
CC Mamba Max
PunkRC Dig Switch
3S Lipo
Eritex Beadlocks with Panthers
Bowtie Rear Battery Plate

any updates or are you still waiting for parts?
JeremyH
07-24-2009, 06:45 PM
Yeah, right now I am waiting on the rear axle. I sent it to Bowtie so he can finalize measurements for a rear battery plate.
I've got my KK High Clearance links in and Fantom Racing 35T motors installed.
Right now, there's just not much to snap a picture of without the rear end...

1) Side Panels
2) Stainless sleeves for steering links
3) Install droop limiters in shocks

I ran this on my backyard course this afternoon and it seemed to do quite well. Here are a few pics:

looks good. what links did u use on the top? it also looks like u limited your shocks, if so by how much? i'm starting my beetle and it would save me a lot of time. thanks for any help. your beetle looks awsome"thumbsup"
JeremyH
08-06-2009, 05:03 AM
Those are Jato Pushrods (112mm) for the uppers. Yeah, I used about 1/2" of fuel tubing around the shock shaft to limit the droop. I used a bit less tubing in the fronts.

Fawker:flipoff: Actually, it really was a bolt together project. There are just too many parts for sale these days....
We'll see if it works tonight...I'll be heading out to my local testing spot!
JeremyH

is 3.1/4 tall is it tippy?
Not really. These Bully axles are pretty damn heavy which keeps it planted. Regardless, I'd like to lower it down about 1/4" for better rollovers...

Haha....yeah, it was about time to update that picture.
The truck sure seemed to work well this weekend. I think I had a brush that was getting stuck on my front motor...need to pull them and replace. This will definitely be the truck that I will run at Crawlapalooza.

(rear)
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u287/z_hansenjm/RC/Bully/P1020850.jpg
I swapped in a full set of lighter cases for the rear and center case for the front. I also made a few changes to the shocks (short springs to keep the tires from eating them and drilled out the pistons). I will weigh it tomorrow at work. I hope to get some time this week to test it out.

The silver ones in the pics on this page? If so, those are Associated RC18T springs. The offer 3 levels of firmness....silver (soft), blue (medium), gold (firm). I copied that spring setup from JustZach. It seems to work well so far!

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u287/z_hansenjm/RC/Bully/Washington%2012-09-09/P1020852.jpg

Hay Jeremy just wondering:idea:
Why did you go to the long distance side on your tie rod instead to the short side(passenger side instead drivers side) it seams that most go to that side...
this is how i did mine. Am i missing something?:

JeremyH
12-18-2009, 11:22 AM
For a stupid reason really....because I already had the link made from the previous steering setup and it was the proper length. If I make a new one, which I probably will (since this one is sleeved with aluminum and not stainless like the tie rod), then I'll probably run it to the closest knuckle.

None of the tires are touching the ground. I'd say that the drag brake on the HHTQ works pretty damn well!
Overall, I am happy. The ESCs BEC seems to be up to the task.

Are you running any weight in the front wheels or are you just using the weight in the axle tubes?
JeremyH
12-19-2009, 01:47 PM
No weights on any of the wheels. It is balanced using a combo of tubes (Full machined aluminum rear parts; front aluminum gear case and upper link mount; front cast tubes and knuckles). The COG is right at the spot where the lower link mounts attache to the chassis.

How are those rear high clearance links working for ya? still ok?
I was thinking on getting some but wondering........do they get hung up when you go over steep ledges, they look like they would hang up before it gets to the rear wheels. maybe i'm just looking at them wrong in your first few pics in Nov. you posted up (post #58 second pic)
thanks Jeremy"thumbsup"
JeremyH

Prusik,
actually those rear links dont get hung up very often at all. They provide a nice smooth transition from link to motor and really help on sharp ledges.

IIRC, yes. You need to make sure that you links are the proper length to give you the correct wheelbase. If you are using the V3 Chassis, the 5" fronts and T1E HC rears should put you right at 12.5" when the suspension is fully compressed.
