View Full Version : JeepinDoug's WT and NT Berg lock-outs

Due to popular demand I decided to make these.
WT (wide track) and NT (narrow track) Berg lock-outs.
CNC machined from 6061 T6 solid bar.
Because of the varying tolerances between Berg and Newage I made these all to the same length. If it's loose in your rig you could shim it, if it's too tight you can sand it.
WT (wide tracks) are cut .515" long, made for stock Berg knuckles.
NT (narrow tracks) are cut .485" for Berg axles using Axial knuckles.
Axial upgraded knuckles are all over the place on tolerances and Toy4crawlin found some shims that would great, Kyosho 12mm x 15mm shim packs.
To assemble just remove the knuckle, remove the dogbone, install the lock-out and then reinstall the dogbone. Test fit the knuckle, look to see how the threads line up. Try the screws, I like it tight but if it's too tight wipe the lock-out on sandpaper and continue to test fit it until it goes. If the test fit shows too loose you'll need the shim kit.
Toy4crawlin's pic;

The pic shows how they're built, 3/4" diameter to match the knuckle, 5/8" to match the tube and a gentle taper to blend them in. Plenty of beef through out the lock-out with a .505" inside diameter, no need to grind the dogbone pin.
For the time being I'm going to post my Paypal addy for sales;
JeepinDoug@gmail.com
I have plenty of both styles to go around.
If you send Paypal please mention which style you want, WT or NT.
The price is $16, for a pair of your choice, shipped.
USPS, sorry no tracking but I never have problems and they always ship fast.
I ship on Tuesdays and Fridays.
I could ship international, just add $1.00 to the total and make sure your address is complete and correct.

Here's a simple itinerary of my shipping.
When you guys PM me for parts I will return a PM to you with the cost, my Paypal addy and my shipping days, not to mention answers to your questys, if any.
Most people will send me a PM to tell me payment has been sent.
I don't mind it but also it's not necessary. Paypal sends me an email anyway.
Normally I don't send another PM saying "Thanks, I got your payment" :D only because I'd be sitting here at the computer all day.
I ship you parts the next ship day if not sooner.
My ship days are always Tuesdays and Fridays, typically around 4:30 pm pac time. I'm packaging around 3:30pm, an hour earlier.
If you send me payment at 4:30pm there's a good chance it won't make it in the mail that day but go out the next ship day.
Many times I'll ship out of those days just to get it out earlier.
I'm just writing this so people understand if I don't get right back to them after their payment has been sent. Your parts will be in the mail the following ship day.
If it's been 10 days and you have not received your parts, PM me.
Since Dec of 2008 I've shipped over 300 parcels, only one has been lost and a two have got caught up in USPS limbo.

The V2 rear axles not a steering axle that needs a lock-out so they are not necessary. I do however make a clocking tool for them.

Ok. New to bergs. NT vs WT, Which do ya'll prefer? Advantages or dissadvantages to one or the other? What is the WMS to WMS for both? Do the plastic axial knuckles hold up to abuse and big drops?
Thanks for the info.
I'll be ordering as soon as I figure out the size I need.

I'll be ordering as soon as I figure out the size I need.
WMS-WMS would be vague because there are different drive hex thicknesses.
So, pull the wheels off, pull the hexes off and measure from the knuckle face to knuckle face (I'll call it "KF")
Stock Berg knuckles with WT lock-outs measure 8-1/16 across the KF width.
Plastic Axial knuckles with NT lock-outs measure 7-7/8" across the KF width.
Can the plastic knuckle withstand the abuse from big drops?
I don't know, I haven't seen one break yet. Typically the cup shaft breaks first.
Advantages?
A narrower track width in the rear for better wheel tracking, if you run wider in the front.
Cheaper knuckles.
Lighter knuckles.
Easy replacements.
Much easier to replace knuckle bearings if needed.
No need for shims, as far as I know so far.
Disadvantages?
I can't think of any but that's just my opinion.

Good to know. I would assume you might have the no-name axles. They seem to be the best fit for stock Berg knuckles.

by no name. if u mean the ckrc ones with no logo then u are correct.
but i do have a bit of binding in them(the axles) so i hope the cheap price hold up. as soon as some gear jelly gets here i get to tear them apart
ty again. ill be getting a clocking tool soon"thumbsup"

Yes, no logo on the axles is no-name Bergs/Newage.
One issue I've seen with only two axles is;
The dogbone pin scrapes the inside of the lock-out.
This is a Berg or Newage manufacturing flaw. The pin is not set centered in the dogbone from the factory.
Two fixes;
The correct ones is to just tap the pin (hard) to get it better centered.
The other is to grind a little off the end of the pin. No real issues with this because the rear shafts only need the extra pin for steering.
Your issue may just be tight gear mesh or dirty with factory components. They tend to break in real quick.

The year's end shipping went out last night.
I'll still be taking orders through the holidays and domestic shipping will still be possible.
Thanks to all who have ordered through me in my first year as a vendor here.
My vendor status has been renewed and I look forward to another year with some new components to be available.
Happy Holidays!!! :mrgreen:
