View Full Version : Holmes Hold brake implementation, I need your help!

I have the basis of the hold brake firmware done for the TM ESC, now I need your help on how to control it! The hold brake puts a HUGE brake on at neutral, so that your rig doesn't roll anywhere. One tester broke a diff trying to budge the motor
It will be an on/off feature. How would you like to adjust it via software and stick programming?
1. on/off feature with checkbox and option in stick programming
2. Only turns on when 100% drag brake is selected (nice and easy)
The downside to this feature is that it creates some noise, and uses a bit of battery. The upside is that even super crawlers can have enough drag now!
On when drag brake it selected sounds good to me!!
Can you say Winnebago?

I like the check box, some people may want 100% drag, but 0 hold. Others may want hold, but not 100% drag. Giving it it's own checkbox offers the most tunability.
Hurry up I need this feature!

Kinda my take on it. I would rather it on at 100% for ease of programming and use, but majority will rule.

#1 gets my vote because of exactly what jason said.

ON/OFF by a check box, doesn't sound like you could get any easier "thumbsup"

Check box, what motors are you running as the testers?

Using some handwound orions now. I need to test with machine wounds to see if the power is lower.
hey john im going to say check box.

I have same opinion as Jason. Please use the check box so we can have the adjustability we need.

This is my vote! I generally use 100% drag and do not like the hold. Flip too Much!!

Yep, checkbox. I dont use a very high drag setting with my Puller....

Alpha firmware is done, just needs some more testing before it can be released into the next Castle link.

Ross is just holding the tires here, and the hold brake is doing the rest. It lets out a buzz and burns some battery.

The next phase of Holmes Hold brake testing didn't make the cut for firmware yet. Above 3s usage, it has to be turned down to work without destroying the motor.
I have two choices
Send current controllers without the Holmes Hold
Send with Holmes Hold- the controller won't be compatible with the Castle Link yet, but basic stick programming is very easy now. You can turn Hold/Drag up and down by 25% increments.
What do you guys think? It really boils down to how many of you have a Castle link already.

Yeah, I'm going to use the castle link. I'm way to lazy to stick program anymore.:ror:

Much rather use the Castle Link. So the shipment coming up will not have the HH Hold Brake but will when the next firmware release is done?

Yep, that is correct.
When I plugged in 6s, the Holmes Hold was so strong on 100% that it damn near blew up my brushes. 50% was perfect, and would need to be the max for 6s and 55t use. We may have to implement a sliding strength ratio for different voltages.

I'm another one for Castle Link. I hate stick programming (was that one or two flashes/beeps?). Yeah, programming in the field isn't as easy, but I rarely need to do that anyways.

With the Holmes Hold addition, the stick programming has been streamlined to just three options. LVC, Drag, and Hold brake. Really fast and simple, although nowhere near the full option group.

I can't wait John, my cheeseball integy motors will let my Berg roll backwards even on 100% right now, This ESC just keeps getting better"thumbsup"

+1 for castle link
if it's break things would be a little scared to just have an on and off. But like the idea of diffrent setting's you adjust it depending on the weight of your rig.

would there be any concern of damage from leaving this on for too long? i.e. i'm quite forgetful and would hate to see my motors and/or esc smoked because I saw something shiny in the distance and went to check it out.
