Sheltering Wings Christmas Crawl

A Place of Refuge and Hope...

Sheltering Wings provides emergency housing for women and children suffering from any form of domestic abuse. We build stable and independent lives through essential programs offered in a supportive and Christ-centered environment.

--------------------------------------------
Hi Aaron,

Thanks for being patient with me while waiting to receive this information regarding our children and Christmas needs. I was so glad that you called last Friday, and we all appreciate your thinking of our women and children during this season of giving. I hope the info below is helpful, and can be used towards planning your truck competition on 12/6. If you should have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me. I should note that the ages/gender below also include children of former shelter residents who have just recently moved out on their own and are still needing some assistance for Christmas.

General needs:
1) Children's pajamas - from infant sizes through children's XL
2) Gifts for "older" kids from their mid-to-late teens -- we tend to not receive as much in that category because people love to buy for little ones -- it's more fun and the selection is greater! So things like handheld video games, basketballs or footballs, posters for the room, CDs, inexpensive MP3 players, etc. would help. I'm afraid to suggest remote control trucks because I know they would fight over them!

Current gender and ages (there may be more than one of each age):

Girls - ages 16, 14, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 4 months
Boys - ages 18, 17, 16, 14, 13, 11, 9, 5, 4, 2, 1, 9 months

Popular requests with the kids (boy or girl) older than 7 or 8 always includes Colts stuff. Popular requests from the boys include skateboarding stuff and about anything sports-related (DVDs, books, etc.), while requests from the girls include anything Princess, Barbie, or Hanna Montana.

Hope this helps. Thank you again for thinking of us, and we'll be in touch regarding scheduling to come to the shelter. Good luck with your 12/6 event!

Deb

So guys, for this comp there will not be an entry fee that gos to the Box. Your entry fee will be something that will be donated to the Sheltering Wings In Danville, IN
Everything is staying local and will make a differance to someone this holiday season.

The Shelting Wings will also recieve a huge Christmas Card signed by all the drivers and companys that help make dreams come true. We are all blessed to be able to play with toy trucks and this season i plan to use these toy trucks to bring huge smiles to the faces of woman and children.

Thank You everyone for supporting the Rox Box,

On my way home from work, I thought Aaron needed to make this next comp stand out on the Forum pages. I get home and TA DA!!! I can't wait for this crawl.

I'm hoping to have pieced together an extra rig for my nephew. That way he can donate too.

This is a great Idea.

My wife does this for Indianapolis, I don't remember which organization it is, but she actually talked to the single mom on the phone. Her young son asked who she was talking to. She told him it was Santa Clause. He wanted to talk to Santa, because he thought his mom was lying. So, my wife gave me the phone and I acted like I was Santa. So, when he told me the toy he wanted I had to make sure my wife bought that along with the other things they needed. I'll never forget the boy yelling back to his mom, It's Santa I'm really talking to Santa.

I'll be there. I am hoping to bring Pat with me again. Does the item we bring need to be new/packaged or can it be stuff we would ordinarily take to Goodwill? If it doesn't have to be new, I'll probably show up with a box full of stuff of both. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

The gifts can not be wraped.... sorry .......Deb said that about 5 years ago some jeck husband found out that his wife and son had went to a shelter in other state, so he gift wrapped a nice little bomb to try and burn her face. So safety most come first for any shelter taking gifts.

New unopened gifts and unwraped

We will take over everything in 1 large box "thumbsup"

Hey Aaron, Quick question for ya. I've finally got my sportsman rig done and its a BEAST!! Anyways, I just noticed in the 2.2 Sportsman class rules that you are limited to a 2S lipo. Are we enforcing that rule at the Rox Box??? I don't own a single 2S lipo battery, never have, never planned on it.

Am I gonna have to buy some new batteries or can I run what I got??

Just curious!"thumbsup"

Hey does anyone coming to the comp have a hotwire and a laptop they could bring to program my fxr??I'm so cheap!!!

If I remember, I'll bring mine over. But its just easier to use the touch programming, unless its a new FXR and not updated to the new firmware.

Where are these sportsman rules?

Noticed them here. Even though theses rules are not the Rox Box rules, they are just suggestions for other clubs.

Aaron has implemented his own rules for the Rox Box and it is HOUSE RULES that we will follow there :)

2.2 Sportsman Class Rules:(added for 2009) TAKEN FROM MiRCA's rules...

If a 2.2 Sportsman Class vehicle violates any of the following requirements it must run in Class 2.2 or 2.2 unlimited respectfully. Any vehicle competing in the 2.2 Sportsman class will not be allowed to compete in another class and vice versa. These are " Club Rules " and can be Modified or adjusted at any time as long as it is for the good of the class.
1 - Vehicle wheelbase is limited to a maximum of 12.5 inches. This is determined by measuring from centerline of front axle stub to centerline of rear axle stub, with all the wheels pointing straight ahead, with the vehicles suspension holding it's own weight.
2 - Vehicle track width is limited to a maximum of 12.5 inches. This is determined by measuring the bottom of the outer most edge of the front and rear tires while the vehicle is sitting on level ground.
3 - Vehicle is limited to 2.2 inch wheels/rims at the bead surface. Wheels may be modified provided that the tire bead surface does not exceed 2.2 inches in diameter. Tires may NOT be modified from other sized tires, They must be a readily available 2.2 size tire with a maximum outside diameter of 6 inches. no Cutting on tire for any reason. Addition of custom foams and or weight is allowed
4 - Vehicles are limited to 2-wheel steering on front axle only.
5 - Vehicles are limited to the use of a 2 channel radio control (one for steering & one for throttle ) only. Neither channel can be used to perform more than one function. Radio systems with more than 2 channels are allowed but only 2 channels can be used to control the vehicle.
6 - Vehicles are limited to 1 ESC & 1 servo only.
7 - Vehicles are limited to 1 motor powering both of the axles. Exceptions will be made for RTR vehicles that came factory equipped with dual motors such as the Duratrax cliff climber and similar vehicles. No Berg, Clod or similar axles allowed
8 – No driver controlled devices, other than steering and throttle control, will be allowed. Independent throttle control to the front or rear axles (“burn” or “dig”), winching down the axles, and forced articulation are not allowed in this class. Vehicle is allowed to have a " dig " transmission but you will be disqualified if you use it
9 – A battery is limited to 8.4 nominal voltage (7 cell nimh/nicd & 2 cell lipo/limoly).
10 - If at any point during a run your vehicle falls out of these vehicle specs for any reason you will be required to take a touch penalty and correct the problem.
11 - body must be 3” minimum height on sides. No less than 12.5” total length and full original width, and no less than 5” in the center. All bodies should resemble its original form (Jeep bodies look like a Jeep)
12 - 2.2 Sportsman class bodiless overall dimension of the complete chassis must be at least 8"overall length, 3" overall width, and 3.75" overall height.

This takes a way the pre-running idea, has you are just driving your other truck for fun and to get more drive time. Also there are no trading trucks with other drivers to compete in dual classes

One quick question I have? I noticed in the rules for sportsman class, that tires should not be cut for any reason. I have a set of Losi Rock Claws that I have siped. Right now, I can't really afford to buy a new set of tires just for a comp (due to kids and Christmas) plus I'm waiting on the new sedonas. Anyways, is this gonna be a problem with me running in the sportsman class. If so, I may have to pass cause its the only set of tires I have till income tax time.

Your tires will be fine ... no worries "thumbsup"

We run USRCCA Rules, and for our sportsman class you just need a shafty and no dig.

The ROX BOX is running a shafty, no dig class so dont let all these sportsman class rules get in the way.

God, why does this have to be so damn competitive, so many loopholes for this crap! 2 identical trucks, hmmmm.....

this is gonna take all the fun out of everything if it keeps getting this damn technical.

ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A BEGINNERS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not for seasoned crawlers to bicker over. Damn. So that Joe Blow who has never crawled before can come out and have fun.

Aaron will make his own rules up for the ROX BOX! He will do as he pleases, cuz it's HIS HOUSE.

Only rules so far are SHAFTY, and NO DIG. USRCCA rules are only there as a guideline. Each club may modify them as they see fit for the event they are planning. If he wants to let the Mini's run 22" wheelbase, then the mini's can run a 22" wheelbase. If the 2.2's get to run a 38" tire, then I'll find some way to put my 38" boggers on my crawler.

Please, everyone just needs to have fun with this. This is an IMPORTANT even for the Rox Box and Sheltering Wings. Lets not take the fun out of it. The real meaning of this event is to share in the spirit of giving.

All the new guys out there are more than welcome to come and have fun with us. Remember, we are all just a bunch of grown men playing with toy trucks!! Run what you brung and have fun!!!!! No need to worry about the technical stuff :)

Some people here seem to be good at stirring the pot. I'd just like to put the cover on it an leave it alone till it's done!"thumbsup" Its the best way to make sure you don't make too much of a mess!

Again, AMEN BROTHER JESSE!

Yep, sportsman run the same course's "thumbsup"

Nope, as you can not run the same truck in 2 classes

IF YOU ARE DRIVING IN THE 2.2 CLASS AND BRING A SPORTSMAN TRUCK
YOU MUST DRIVE YOUR 2.2 TRUCK FIRST AS THIS IS WHERE YOUR SCORE IS GOING TO COUNT.

This takes a way the pre-running idea, has you are just driving your other truck for fun and to get more drive time. Also there are no trading trucks with other drivers to compete in dual classes

Don't worry about when I picked up a Losi or 2

So no dig is the only rule? cool....

So I can run my Losi with dig in 2.2. Then I can run Coltons Losi with no dig in sportsman "thumbsup"

BTW- Aaron stated that you can not run the same truck in 2 different classes, so that sounds like another rule also..Sounds like you need to be on the short bus with me then :flipoff:

Sorry, but that would be trading trucks, ........

Thanks for your interest in this beginners class

You would need to bring 4 truck's for both of you to run both class. You could use berg trucks in the 2.2 class and your new losi's in the sportsman class or beginners class.

Thanks

THIS IS FROM THE CURRENT
ROX BOX THREAD
JUST A REMINDER
------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT INFO : PLEASE READ

Some House Rules going forward.

1. The only people on the rocks during the comp are the Judges, Driver and a spotter (if the driver ask for one) And Rox Box staff taking pictures. So going forward No one is to be on the rocks while the courses are in use.

2. Comp days are not practice days. Just because a course is not in use at that time does not mean drive on it. We run the change of altering that course for the next driver

If time allows after a comp we may turn it over to a free crawl practice time.

3. Crawling at the Box, out side of a planned comp or practice time most stop. There have been some issues that have happened at the industry park and people keep coming to me. They have turned one of the back cameras that shoot down the back drive to hit the rocks so they can see how is there when these issues come up. So please, this is my place of business and I want to be able to keep the out side part

Sorry for having to post some rules, but this shows that we are growing and that we have to work on ways to manage the growth and still have fun.

Thanks
