My crawlin partner has an e-maxx with evx, 3000 mah batt's and he's been burning motors
His gearing is 10/72, the motors he burnt were a Trinity monster maxx( the endbell melted) and a Reedy Badd Maxx (endbell and bearing melted) they have also been eating up brushes( four to five runs) what the hell is going on with this???
Is this because of the type of motor, should he use a different kind of motor like a mayhem or what??? Would the one battery mod solve this??? we are both puzzled since we are new to this
I am thinking about making an emaxx crawler, but not if this happens on a regular basis

I have had a couple of maxxes come into the shop that I work at that have had the same problem. In most cases there has been somthing in the drive train that was binding up. The first thing I would do is pull the pinions and see if the truck will roll free. If it dosn't, I would start by taking the tranny out then work towards the wheels till you find the problem.

yes i would start checking the drivetrain and see if its binding..also in some cases i have heard,that people have burned up aftermarket motors with the lower gearing.does it like to throttle it alot?
i have been running mine with no problems at all with the stock Titan motors, besides the Titans are cheaper if they burn up :D

I'm the friend that was burnin the motors. I check the drive train and found no problems. The two motors I have burnt up were when the brushes were getting low. I changed to one motor one battery set up and seems to be working fine. I noticed that when I was running the trinity monster maxx motors with two batteries they would get really hot would anyone know the reason why? Could it be the truck is geared too low for the motors. Also if anyone could give some advice on motor maintence such as when to change brushes, how long do they usually last, when to cut the comm., and should you oil the brushes before you run the motors. Any advice on the subject would be appreciated.

If the brushes or comm are worn to much it can cause excess heat. I usally replace brushes when they are about half gone, as for the comm true it when it gets discolored or starts to wear grooves. I go about 6 runs on my sedans but I'll run my crawler motors 30 to 40 packs before they need trued. As far as comm drops go they make good power but it collects dirt quick. I would stay away from putting anything on the comm, it isn't worth the extra maintaince. Even on carpet it will start to gum up after one run, and it will cause a loss of horsepower and cause extra wear.
