I purchased the RTR rock crawler from RC4WD a month ago. I recieved the rims and tires. Now I'm getting the run around on when I'm gonna get it. Now I cant even get ahold of him. What kind of business is this. I want my truck. I'm turning him over to the fraud department at my credit card company. WHAT EVER YOU DO DON'T BUY FROM THIS GUY MIKE!!!!! Let me know if you have had this problem too.

You'll get truck and more if your patient.

05-23-2006, 01:54 PM
You should not have to be that patient with a company. These days I expect (and usually receive) the stuff I buy within 1 - 1.5 weeks, even from our small vendors here.
RC4WD needs more staff to handle orders and emails/calls, or to fix their supply problem, whichever one is holding them back. If they can do that they won't have to pacify people with gift parts.

This seams to come up every now and again.
But from what I've seen on here they are a good place to get stuff from and do a lot of custom work. I think if your patient you will get more than what you expect from them.
Not everyone can afford to pay for extra help. It's not like dealing with a large company like tower or something.

I've delt with Hua at RC4WD many times in the past few years. I've always gotten my stuff within 2 weeks. I have even been given plenty of free stuff from him.
RC4WD is a big little company. Big amount of products and little shop. Give it time.
Hell.... I've been having a hell of a time getting a particular item to Hawaii for the last month. The customer has been very understanding about the situation. Although I blame my wife for shipping to the wrong address, she does it often when there is just a stack of stuff to go out.

I sold a set of Rubicon fender flares to a dude in Canada...forgot about them for over a week. I felt bad, offered to refund the money via paypal - even though I'd already sent them out.
Then they got stuck in customs when crossing the border...delaying things that much longer.

I dont see the reason for joking, weather or not you get free crap or not, it doesnt fix the issue entirely. I was in the position where I needed parts for my clod before a get together. I went to rc4wd at first, until I realized after waiting 3 days that I wasnt going to be able to get ahold of anyone, and therefore cancelled the order then. I went to RCGUY and He hooked me up with everything I needed including custom sized links that he stayed late in the machine shop to make for me just so I could have them on time. THAT is what a SMALL business is supposed to be like. This so called business is the opposite and needs to be shut down... I am ashamed that rc crawler represents them in the vendor section.
I'd have to agree.I've had the same kind of bad experience with RC4WD.I've also had the same kind of good experience with RCGUY.From my dealings,I won't ever buy from RC4WD again.I'd rather spend the time to make it myself.
IMO THEY SUCK.
I have had good luck w/ them- and will continue to do so! I would like to send them and you cookies!

i must agree i have had bad luck with them as well i ordered a set of 2.2 beadlocks and paid for them then recieved an email saying that they would be delayed indefinatly, so i ask for a refund they refused then i called my lawyer, then i recieved another email saying that they would gladly refund my money but it took them almost seven months to do it. so i would suggest do not do business with them

Ive been nice so far and not said anything bad about them trying to wait for a response but the is just down right sad.

Just read their website as I wanted to call and place an order. But I'm not liking what I reading here.
But there is a note that says:
Note:
We wont be able to pickup any phone calls from May 18 to May 4.
I guess he means June 4th...

I have had the worst luck and the best luck with them.....it all depends on what day you call or email. Mike ,the owner, is a good guy and rc4wd is a great place but they just get packed with order after order so its hard on them. I mean i have waited 3 months just for a 55t motor, 2 months for clod axles witch they didnt have so they bought me a whole clod kit form tower, also i ordered swampies and he forgot about them so he gave me any 2 set of tire free....i got clod all ts and g hawgs totally free. the same thing happend with shocks, so i got those shocks then another par free!! My dad is into crawling to but hes always working so he got a rtr from them and its been 3 going on 4 months and its still not in yet. so you might be waiting a while!! i mean my dad did get a nice box in the mail with a free body and 40 series beads w/ moads. Good luck and im sure once you get ahold of mike and let him know everything will be totally good and he might throw in some free shizz-it!! BEST OF LUCK
The BEST, I REPEAT BEST way to order from them is MO or on the phone. ALL of my orders i orderd thur Money order have come in within a day or two. SO if you ever order again dont use creit card!! IF you did??

Yeah, he wasn't so good to me either. It took 3 weeks to get a pair of aluminum knuckles and that was only 2 of the 4 I ordered. So, I emailed him in FEBRUARY and I got 2 emails saying the other set was "going out tommorow". The bad thing is one of the knuckles wasn't tapped all the way for the bolts to thread in through the L shaped part. So, I had 1 good knuckle out of 4 and I only had two. So, a week ago (mid MAY) I get a package of these "new" knuckles that SUCK! They don't even let the tires turn at a 40 degree angle. They have less turning radius than a stock knuckle. So, after 4 months I have 4 parts I have to have milled down to get steering back and he wants me to send the first set back.

I bought some Bead lock wheels from these guys, which are the baddest *** wheels you can buy(although a tad expensive) and my order was not only boxed or received but was shipped ten minutes after I placed my order and was at my house in 2 days. I had no problem getting emails from them either.

WOW, don't know what to say here. #1 rule of business, the customer is always right, always try to make the customer happy. #2 rule of business is, do not sell something Retail if you don't have it in stock, unless you have quick turn around. #3 It should take less than one billing cycle to refund a persons money.
I've dealt with people before that would not do refunds quickly or would not get back to you, these peoples and companies will rise quickly and fall flat on their face.
The shopping cart program they are using looks to be OS Commerce which has a perpetual physical inventory so essentially, if its out of stock, it will say sold out, so if its in stock on the web site they should have it, from what you guys have been saying it looks like they are claiming to have product or the ability to ship product and do not follow through.
I don't know, at my small online store $50,000 in 6 months without paying my salary or purchasing the product (so there is no profit yet) we sell stuff we have and get stuff we don't. Customers don't have to wait for stuff as thats not fair to them, they pay my bills they are my only interest. We have had a customer have to wait 10 days to have the product delivered and have given them a discount code for use with their orders and refunded their shipping.
Our market is a small and not really a demand of a market, but its growing due to customer service. I have been on other boards and everyone there loves RC4WD and doesn't have bad experiances and HUA is always on the board, so maybe its just chance? preferance? luck? I don't know, but I do plan on purchasing from RC4WD and we will see what happens.
I hope the best for them and all of you and hope that everything gets worked out between you guys.

Guys remember what this is about. A hobby. All the guys on this forum are offering something that we could not get in the past at your LHS. Some of these guys are doing this on the side. I just waited 3 months for shock mounts. This is a hobby. Enjoy it. I have bought stuff from rc4wd and I am here to tell you that it is well worth the wait. They are behind because all of us realize the great items that he offers. Remember this is a hobby, there are too many other things out there that cause stress and frustration, don't let this be one of them.
Thanks to all the vendors on this forum for the great products and service that they offer. I know you are doing your best.

I agree and disagree.
the fact that they are doing this on the side is true. I'll give that a little credit. BUT, we pay them good money for this stuff and waiting for anything for over 2 weeks (unless it's being custom fabbed ) is rediculous. I received a TXT from CANADA to me in Indiana in less time than that.

regardless of if they're doing this on the side or not, once they decide to sell a product or products, it becomes business, no longer a hobby....I've never had to deal w/ em yet, but after reading about some of the stuff that's gone wrong, I'd only deal with them if I absolutely had to.....customer service should be the highest priority of any business....no business will last long if they don't take care of their customers.... just my $.02
I paid for a Rockbull chassis 35 days ago (may 25th) and still waiting for it.
First Mike sent me a wrong custom declaration number LC610805154US .... this item was delivered item was delivered in CANADA at 8:39 am on October 31, 2005 !!!!!!
One week ago he told me to send the chassis "tomorrow" but he never did, and now he don't answers my emails.

I ordered parts and Rockbull 2 from them on many occasions and never had problems. RC4WD is understaff. He might be a little slow to answer emails, but he does. I even ordered from their eBay store also and get it faster that way.

I wouldn't answer a guy that asks me three questions about your order in three different emails.

i think mikes really trying to give off good vibes. everytime (i repeat) everytime i email him asking how much it would something be for a money order, or do you have this in stock he emails me saying "oh here ill ship it for free". I mean i just bought the internal spring shocks from rc4wd and the springs are way to stiff and i asked if they sold others and he said no but he will go out and find some and ship them out for free to me. Right know i have gotten . free clod all-ts, 2.2 g hawgs, piggy back shocks, punisher shafts and now softer internal springs!!
i feel bad but i know its only because my dad ordered a rtr about 4-5 months ago and its still not in yet so i think he is the one who feels worse. Its was cool the first couple times but now its kinda sad and i feel sorta like im using him!!
Has he done this for anyone else??

Thanks for your input Badger, but 3 e-mails in the course of one month is not asking a lot,
That's a minor detail you left out. I would also be pist if someone did not respond to 3 emails over the course of a month.
Why don't more people use paypal to pay? You can dispute a payment to a seller via paypal within 45 days of the payment date. Then the seller has 20 days to resolve the dispute or Paypal will refund the money to the buyer.
I am sure (at least from some credit card commercials) that is you paid via your credit card that they also have some type of coverage.
If you are smart and do not let to much time go buy then you have a chance to get your product or money back.
Also, I have read about a different vendor asking (begging) the customer not to file a claim with paypal and to give him a little more time. The customer did and still has not received any product and now screwed himself with Paypal because it went over the 45 days that he could file the dispute.

No problem. Another thing I do if I don't pay with Paypal is I pay with my credit card, not my debit card. Most Credit card's have buyer protection where a debit card does not (to the best of my knowledge).
It is very easy to blame everyone else if you are screwed out of money, but you are ultimately responsible to protect yourself from worst case scenarios.

Just from my personal experience regarding USPS tracking numbers...they aren't worth a crap to track the location of your package like you can with UPS or FedEx. All that "tracking number" does is verify that the USPS has received your package (or the postage has been paid) and then once the package has been delivered, it shows exactly that...that it's been delivered. Everytime I have received a USPS tracking number, I can't see anything on the website until AFTER my package has been delivered to my door.
In other words, give him some time. I can't give my opinion either direction to his ability to ship products in a timely manner. I can only tell you of my personal experiences with USPS and tracking numbers.
JohnRobHolmes
06-13-2006, 12:07 PM
I have shipped enough times to learn that usps tracking numbers are mostly useless. I too have seen many packages delivered before the number worked.
There is always the mis-understanding with the USPS "tracking number"... they don't call it a "tracking number" they call it a "delivery confirmation number"... which is why it only works after a package has been delivered :)
I ordered some 2.2 wheels Friday last week and paid the extra $ 22.00 bucks for UPS 3 day. That way I can Track it better. They shipped it USPS. I emailed them asking for the difference in shipping price back, Have yet to hear from them.
I love their products, but not sure if I would do it again.
We shall see.
I ordered some stuff from Inet and Tower and that stuff is here already.
UPDATE: I did recieve a email from Mike at RC4WD.
He said he would refund the entire shipping that I paid.

I just received this message from RC4WD..
"Thanks again for your business. Your order has been processed and the status has
been updated to the following
------------------------------------------------------
Order Number: xxxx
Detailed Invoice: xxxxx
Date Ordered: Saturday 10 June, 2006
Your order has been updated to the following status.
New status: Shipped
Comments:
shipped via USPS priority tracking# xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
Okay, so here is the message that USPS has given me...
"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on June 12, 2006 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."
This means the product is not "SHIPPED"
I'm a little dissapointed, I do this (shipping) for a living with my E commerce store and this is considered a "no-no".
So it seems to me from your guys feedback it seems that if you haven't spend a billion dollars there or your problem is too hard for them to handle you get the :flipoff: from them. Not cool, it should only take 24 hours from time of complaint to get a response from the manufacturer/store. I think they think that WE have to order from RC4WD, theres other stores and they will learn if WE do what needs to be done and Don't order from RC4WD. Whats funny is I came in to learn about them, and have agreed that they aren't the most non-shady group of cats out there now. Poop.

I would have to PARTIALLY disagree with your statement that the package is not "shipped". That's the canned response from USPS regarding the number. That is the exact message that you will get until AFTER your package has been placed in your mailbox. Then, and only then, will you see anything other than the canned message that you posted.
Do you ship via USPS very often in your E-commerce store? USPS and their confirmation numbers are useless.

Do you ship via USPS very often in your E-commerce store? USPS and their confirmation numbers are useless.
X200, it is actually not a tracking # it is a comfirmation of delivery number, as it states when you pay for it
I still use em for light weight packages and small stuff cuz of cost and for stuff going to canada.......ups takes too long

Yeah, you got lucky.........
I got my box today, got HALF of what I paid for. I got 2 wheels, NOT 4... I am furious to say the least. All I can say is I better have those wheels this weekend os sh!t will hit the fan. A nice phone call from my lawyer will make his day that much better!
So did you call to find out what happened before you started ranting like a 4 year old?

ranting like a 4 year old, I called 4 times throughout the day, enough for them to return my message thats for damn sure. Now it is the following day, still no call or e-mail. I'll give it another day before I proceed with legal issues, I can gauruntee I am going to have to get my stuff the hard way.:-( But rest assured, I WILL get my things.
trust me trying to apply pressure with legal action is a joke.......you will ring up big money in lawyer fees.....you will eventually get your stuff and have no case.....seen it hundreds of times...and you will get stuck with the lawyer bill too, you ever hear the old addage " patientce is a virtue"
many of us do this kind of business on the side, not full time, and dont make much on the stuff sold. I quite often have issues with vendors in my 4x business and being a total AZZ never gets you anywhere but ignored.

In terms of RTR trucks, we had a lots of problem getting them done on time for customer in the last 3 month. There is still one customer waiting for it, once that one is shipped, we have no more pending orders. After that, we dont plan to build any more RTR tucks anymore, right now all RTR related kit are removed from our site.
There is one customer who requested a complete refund and he got hims money back already. And we let him keep the 4x alum beadlock wheel and moab tires for free.
We have a lots of the 2.2 wheel in stock. Our new shipment guy seems to get pretty confused with what ring and what wheel to ship. We are fixing the problem now by pre-install the ring on all wheel, that should done to all 2.2 wheel within 1 month or so. If you look at our other beadlock wheel, those for Moab tires, all rings and screw are pre-installed. We do all the extra work to avoid sending the wrong product or miss a ring or two.
If you have anything on back order, please contact us via email at rcrock(at)gmai.com.
We just hired another person for taking care all the email, forum messages. She will start working 1st week of July. Our goal is respond all emails within 24hrs or less. This will also help the shipping guy as well, because he wont have to process credit card, count inventory and many other tasks.
In terms of inventory availability, we added sold out to all most all products that we dont have in stock now.
http://rc4wd.com/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Sold+Out&x=0&y=0
Of course, there will always be a few products that we miss to update. But things will get more accurate as we move to a new inventory software next month. Our goal is move to 0 backorder. When you really think about it, it doesn't benefit us neither ship multiple packages and pay multiple shipping fee. I hope the new software/website will go live in late July, then it will have a real time inventory control. Once the product qty is down to 1, it wont let customer check out anymore.
For those who has one of our old catalog, you will see that we already updated all products with a new product ID. With the old product ID, it was very difficult to manage and ship for a person who dont know the product (unforunatly shipping guy come and go). Now that the new product # is sequence, things become more efficent. It is very easy to find a product now. Our inventory also has grown a lot, we have probably twice more parts in stock than just 6 month ago.
We added a lots of dealer lately too, where you can purchase some of our popular products.
I can assure that who ever has a problem with a previous order, I will take care him right away.
For now, please contact us by email at rcrock(at)gmail.com. We are not taking any phone support at this moment.
In terms of USPS delivery confirmation #, it does not work as good as a UPS tracking #. Sometimes it wont say anything until it is actually delivered.
I do remember that there was a customer who ordered the wheel to be delivered in 3 days, but we shipped him by USPS priority mail. The entire shipping fee is already refunded (free shipping). Our shipping guy miss that one.
Quality control is something we are still learning and improving as we go. For example, such as the External Gear Reduction Unit says sold out even it was just released not too long ago. That's because we are testing our product much longer now before we ship them. Some older product, such as beadlock wheel, the manufacuting part is already very mature, so there is 0 problem in quality and finish. But many of the newer product still have problem. We just switched the way we make tracgear, then we found out that there are some quality problem as well. Punisher shaft is another great example, some customer had problem with it's universal pin. We refunded everybody who provided a picture show that is broken and promised a free set once we have more of the newer steel version.
We will continue making more and more special and unique crawler products, please be patient as we improve our business and quality.

Well it seems they are trying to get moving on with bigger things and thats good. I know its hard to handle everything with a small labor budget, it jst seems like these people have had to wait for soooo long to get a response but now that you stated 24 hour email turn around thats awesome. I am a person who will be very vocal about problems untill they are resolved, and then I'm happy. I'm pretty sure every one here felt very ignored, but you guys are taking steps to fix that problem and that makes it all good again. Thanks. Peace Out.

I think at the end of the day if you want stuff ''next day'' and can't wait. Then buy stock crap! I did alot of specialty things into my 1:1 car and anytime you want something custom or ''special'' then you sometimes have to wait for it.
I think people don't seem to realize that all that cool custom crap takes time. Just be thankfull that theres guys out there spending the time to do any aftermarket stuff at all. I ordered my wheels from RC4wd and yes I was a little worried at first but only because I hadn't heard of anyone else at the time that had delt with them. But I got them and comunication was good.

alright well i have posted under this thread a few times and just like all of you i have had my ups and downs this rc4wd. For a while mike (for those who dont know is the owner of rc4wd) was sending me free stuff once a week because the RTR my dad ordered about 5-6 months ago still isnt in. So my i finally ordered 2 sets of 2.2 beadlocks and one set with black outter rings came perfect. But the other set of rims with red outter rings came with 4 skinny outter rings with 8 holes in them and 4 wider outter rings with 6 holes in them. So i was a little confused to say the least. Im not mad at them, we as humans make mistakes, But i mean who ever was doing the packaging should go back to school and learn to count a little better. Im sure all this will be patched up monday but i just wanted to know if this little mishap has happend to anyone else and if it has did Mike send you more outter rings for free or did you have to buy them?!!?

I wouldnt say dont buy from them.
I have bought from them and it was a great experience with a reasonable shipping time. The item was packed well and arrived as described.
I have had trouble with a couple of the wheels which I only just found out today. However I have emailed RC4wd and I will await the responce before going into to much more information.

I'd pay $10-$20 more for a set of 2.2 beadlocks from here or ebay just so I didn't have to wait 2 months to ship in the first place and then bank on the 80% chance of having to wait another month to get replacment parts. It's like the credit card commercial
Wheels $80
1st shipping time. 2 months
Time spent trying to get replacement parts. 1 month
Time waiting for replacement parts. 2 months
Spending $20 more than new on ebay or rccrawler.com not to dick around with RC4wd for 5 months, PRICELESS!

UPDATE.......Mike sent me the wide rings to replace the thin ones....but...my 2 year old got into my RC stuff & lost 4 of the wide rings that were just sent to me! I turned the house upside down & could not find them! So....I e-mailed Mike to let him know what happened and that I needed to keep the thin rings anyway, and to tell me how much to pay him for them. He sends me an e-mail back and says "That's OK, just keep them, NO CHARGE" This guy has been great to deal with! Again, I'm sorry to those that have had issues...But I'll be buying from them again!!8)

took a picture of it, and sent him my original invoice so he can clearly see the mistake...
he got to me within 24 hours, and told me that the replacement parts are on the way...
everyone makes mistakes, its what they do afterwards that seperates good people from bad...
good service = good guy... i would buy from him again...

Just thought I'd put my own personal expierience in here since some may want to know.
I purchased a set of alumin. lower shock link mounts from Mike back in Feb. of this year. They were in stock stock at the time so I pay for them and wait. I guess it was about 2 weeks I waited before I emailed him after having recieved no reply at all, not even a email saying "Ok, I've recieved your order and it's being processed." It took 2-3 emails before I finally got a response and check out how classy it was, "Hello, this is Mike from RC4WD, how can I help you?". I had plainly stated a very simple question in my previous emails. So I email him back for a # to contact him. Several days later I received a reply with a number. I then tried for a few days on and off (1-2 a day) to call him. No answer so I give up.
By this time it had been about a month since I originally placed my order. I send Mike an email one day saying I'd just like my money back. I decide to go to the local hardware store and just get some wire clamps to use for the shock mounts, and cut my losses. Maybe I'll get money back, maybe not.
About 1.5-2 months later (total of about 3 months after inital order was placed) I receive a package in the mail. HOLY SH!T it's my shock mounts!!! Wow, so happy to have them now that I've already been crawling for 2 months with my finished project....
That was the first and last thing I have ordered from Mike.
He makes some great products, but in this day and age that's just not enough. You've GOT to establish some kind of repor with your customers.
