I would like to host an event in Atlanta Ga sometime. Stone Mountian is near by .............it is the worlds largest exposed granite outcroping. It was heavily mined in the past, so it also has lots of challening terrian.
http://www.stonemountainpark.com/
My wife is in the travel business, so I also would work on discounts for travel expenses.
I also think I could get Mudcow a airline ticket if he was willing to come :!:
What do you guys think :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
Who would be interested :?: :?:

They have onsite campgrounds, and a hotel. I should also check with park management for permission. :flipoff:

I would be happy to try and plan an event. I think I will need help with sponsors, and prizes. I am pretty connected with the local scene as far as food/shelter. I also should be able to get an RV for a command center.
JK has expressed intrest to me about coming to the USA for an event.
I want to do something cool with a good turn out.
It needs to be an event that's more than "lets crawl for 4 hours then go home" to make it worth travling to.
If you check out the Stone Mtn website you will see that location has a lot to offer besides crawling.

Hell yeah ! The ball is starting to roll. Add one more with me, after running two charges in my buggy my brother is hooked and is going to put together a Clod. As for notice, all I need is about two weeks worth. Anywhere within 500 miles is good too.
Fishmaxx is there a LHS in that area that would be willing to lend some support in the way of sponsorship or prizes ? I`d be willing to donate some so the Mudcow could come over and give us all a good spankin.
The big question is Where? GA or KY or TN ? I say chose it based on what area has the best support for this kind of event and where they will let us hold it.

also, i have had several people email and PM me saying they would be up for it. i have had alot of comments for the Livingston area in southern KY ( near London) that seems like a central location to everyone within the areas that would be willing to come. you would have people from VA,Oh,Ky,TN, GA, CO and possibly a few more places. so far, we are starting to get a bigger turn out of people interested and would come than i thought, but that only seems if it up near the Tenn/Ky line as asked in the last post from Highmark. here is a list of everyone so far that says they would be in

There are TONS of places over there. It just depends on what kind of terrain we want. I'm so used to taking my 1:1 truck on the trails that I forget what trails might be best for R/C crawlers.
There are a few good places right inside the main enterance that would probably be good. There's a section called "pink rock" and a lot of good spots right around there. It's at the beginning too, and any car or truck can make it to this spot. Also right past there there is another place that has some good rocks that might be about the right scale for a r/c. And a bunch more places further out if your willing to walk or ride along someone with a 4x4. I'll look through some of my pics to see which place would be best, and I'll post some later on. I'm hoping to make a trip down there here soon, so I can scout the trails for a good spot.
Also, there are some killer places to run fast instead of crawling if you have a tmaxx or something fast. I know of a few "whoops" that would be fun to run.

That pink rock place looks killer :D think we could get the quad and jeep guys off it long enough to do a competition? The place in the pic labeled " rock ledges on down the trail" also looks really interesting. Perhaps we should do several diffrent courses instead off concentrating on one spot?
Also could we get back to those spots in say a 4x4 van, minus lockers?
AdamF
06-04-2004, 08:41 PM
There should be very few to NO quads back there since the rangers now often enforce the rule that all vehicle back there have to be street legal since the trail that passes back there is actually a county road. As long as we go on a day/weekend that is not a holliday or anything, we shouldnt run into much traffic at all.
All the pictures I posted, except for the last one that I noted a built 4x4 needed, can be acceses with any ordinary car, unless it's a lowrider. I took my wife's 96 Corolla back there.

Next spring as fishmaxx said have it in Atlanta. Atlanta sounds like it has the best rocks or area but its to far away for me unless some one wants to fly me and my brother. It would be great to have a event at Stone Mountain.
I lived 1 mile from the park for 10 years, although it has been awhile since I have been back there. i do recall some nice places for crawling though. Would just need to go scouting one weekend.
If the park will aloow us to do it, Would be great to have a "Get Together" at the park one weekend.

So we have two groups of guys, one wanting the Atlanta route the other wanting southern KY, might as well do it seperately and maybe try to have something next year that we can all make it too.
In terms of the Ky anywhere around Augest or early September, so that we have time to get our rigs togeather (I would like to get a Kong truck going) but I do have 3 trucks that could crawl as of now so I'm cool for anytime-just as long as its a weekend.
Bradster (Brad) mentioned to me that he wants to get a new motor ect. going for his pede which should be togeather in the next couple of weeks.
Jesus just does his own thing-he might bring a Tj converted to R/c for all I know....

I can't do the drive to Livingston (I'll be there if we do the comp/get to gether there) to check it out (even though I'm the closest, kick me if you want :flipoff: ) but I'll snap some pics of that place by the green river this friday when I go by there, I think you guys would be plesently suprised by the variety of terain that's there. Livingston looks great to me but I'll see if I can get some pics just as another option, my trucks really don't do that well at this place but it would save everyone north of livingston and hour and half's worth of a drive and it's right by the road so it is very accesable.
BTW the place I'm talking about is in Rocheaster KY which is right outside of morgantown. Theres a hobby shop in Bowling green which is an hours drive away depending on how fast you drive, traffic and how many cops are out. The hobby shop is mostly plane stuff but if you need something like tire glue they can cover you. There is a number of motel/hotels in morgantown as well as a sonic,Mc Donalds, mexican place, chinese place, hardees and a couple of pizza places. Also the crawling area is close to a boat nice boat dock/ not so nice camp ground (not to many people camp there but you can if you need to) so you will see a few fishermen but thats it for the most part.

This is only about a third of the rocks that are there, I was only able to take pics of the area close to the intrance because of the time limmit but theres enough crawlable terain there for several courses and enough variation that anything from a pajero up to some of the Kong and maxx trucks could have a nice course  [/img]

4XAdict myself and Bradster(Brad) have been talking about doing something around Augest 7th or 8th to give him enough time to get his truck ready, I'll probably be up there sometime sooner because my rig is crawlable just too see what area's would work and what wouldnt. Anyone who wants to come is welcome to but i'm not going to hipe this up in hopes of getting twenty guys up there, just more of a get-togeather to snap off a couple pics have some fun (and maybe BBQ) and get some excitment built up.
