Just a heads up. The forecast for next Sunday is for scattered thunderstorms and rain. Just something to keep an eye on. Right now, there is only a 30% chance of rain predicted, so we might get lucky and have another nice GTG.
BrandonW

im definetly not traveling 2 hours to sit in the rain lol. we better keep on eye on the weather over the next 2 days see if the forecast changes at all.

No need for anyone to worry just yet. We are definitely not throwing in the towel on this GTG. We just need to keep an eye on that forecast.

This weather is really starting to suck. It seems that it rains every freakin' weekend and throughout most of the week.
All I can say is that I'm going to plan to attend, but I'm also going to keep watching the forecast and, to be honest, will bail if it looks like there's a good chance of rain. I'd rather go on a nice day that I can really enjoy.
For now, the plan is to go crawling. S-Dog, where is a good place to meet at the park?
peej410
06-20-2006, 08:18 AM
if its raining like it did when we went to sleeping giant ill be staying home too... even though it was still sorta fun... id rather it be dry. a little drizzle wont stop me tho
CoreyK
06-20-2006, 08:22 AM
Yea. like some of you said, you dont want to travel 2 + hours and have it poor. We'll keep an eye on the weather!

I will go take a ride there and map distances from both entrances. We should probably meet right at that big rock. The park is one BIG circle. The rock is almost at the very end of the circle. I will try to get that info tonight.

Probably the simplest route from CT is 95 North to 146 North then take the Twin River Road exit. Go left off the exit and once you enter the park take a right at the stop sign. The loop is one way so just follow it around till you come to the parking area with the rock formation next to the water.
Joe
I googled directions to the park entrance.

I will also bring my 8mp digital slr (still)... It takes UNREAL pictures and the quality is unmatched...I will bring my mini tripod too for a decent group photo..if I can remeber how to use the stupid timer....

OK....so here are the distances once you get into the park.
the covered bridge entrance: 3 miles (more than likely you will not use this entrance....)
the main entrance(not covered bridge): 1.9 miles (this will prolly be the entrance you use)
when you enter from the main entrance take a right, you will go ALL the way around (keep right) you will pass a big parking lot, go over a little wooden bridge, you will pass the boat ramp entrance, go up a big hill, then go down a big hill... the meeting area/rocks are at the bottom of this hill....
Hope this helps.....

and according to the weather right now...it looks like if there is any rain... it will be just in the morning... and be clear before the afternoon

corey just fine tune it as you drive it on sunday.
sdog if your rig looks even remotely like that vehicle its goona rock.

corey just fine tune it as you drive it on sunday.
sdog if your rig looks even remotely like that vehicle its goona rock.
It wont by sunday....but I hope to have it partially mocked up to maybe test it a Lincoln woods.... no cover.. It looks like there will be a lot of talent there to be able to give me (the man who has just gotten back into RC after 20 yrs of not using one) some pointer of what will work and what wont... plus what I can do to maybe make it better...
CoreyK
06-21-2006, 11:17 AM
Ill do the tuning there. the part im worried about is the links thats it!
mrwonderful
06-21-2006, 06:08 PM
Whats the problem with the links? If you're using traxxas rod ends, get some 6-32 threaded rod and 3/16" alluminum tubing and your good to go.
CoreyK
06-21-2006, 06:11 PM
I know. i just dont like doing links i dont know why.
peej410
06-21-2006, 07:23 PM
for a little extra i could set up the links for you corey. im almost dont with that top priority frame, yours is bent up and cut. now to weld it together. it really only has a days work in it. ive just had every problem a fabricator could have come up the last few days. i tested the scaler today and with some fine tuning i think youll be very impressed :) if possible plan on coming up friday when you can get a ride so we can mock it up.
CoreyK
06-21-2006, 07:27 PM
yea.i can do links, just get me some measurements if its possible. I have all the material to do it. Looks like rain friday so if thats the case my dads got no work and i can come up like afternoonish. To bad i couldnt hitch a ride with u sunday . Then i wont have to listen to my dad lol.
peej410
06-21-2006, 07:28 PM

S-Dog, weather.com has the same forecast for all of the north east, what does the local weatherman have to say about the weekend?
S-Dog
06-22-2006, 07:05 AM
Right now it looks like there is a chance of showers with it tapering off in the morning....The more detailed forecast will be tomorrow.
Here is a good link for the most info on Sunday:

Don't me, hate the weather. I believe I'm going to bail on Sunday. I hope the crawl goes on and the weather works out, but the forecast is saying a 70% chance of rain, and I think I might just stay home and finish my 2.2 rig.
Let's plan a few events for July. It would be cool (or it might sound lame) if we could plan a cookout/GTG at one these state parks.
CoreyK
06-23-2006, 10:37 AM
Yea. i dont think im going to make it either. I like the idea of a cookout/ GTG this july!
fullmodtxt
06-23-2006, 10:49 AM
Have y'all forgotten about the NERCC crawl scheduled for July 22nd?
Matt and Corey, the cookout thing is a cool idea. NERCC has done them in the past, but at private crawl locations instead of public parks.
MattH
06-23-2006, 10:53 AM

S-Dog
06-23-2006, 11:50 AM
I will be going still.... I is supposed to be better the second half of the day..
My 8x8x8 is coming along nicely and I will want to test it out.
I dont blame you 2-3hr away guys though.
peej410
06-23-2006, 12:30 PM
the morning of the event you guys should go to intellicast.com put in the Zip code. then click radar and loop or java loop. youll be able to see exactly where the storms been the last 2 hours and where its heading. i wouldnt mind drizzle but i wont drive up if its pouring...

I'm not sure if I'll need wheel wideners yet and there might be a few other small things, but no matter what it will be ready to rock (bad pun, I know) at the next GTG.

My truck is done. Believe it or not. It's done. It took 3 nice chunks out of my fingers, but it's done. I have no idea how it will work, how fast it will be, or how it will crawl, but I'm done. PS: I really doubt this is going to happen tomorrow. It is predicting a lot more rain, a lot more frequently. However, if someone is down there with a truck, I will be down there.

I am still going. I want to test my 8 wheeler on some real rocks. If it happens to be raining at 1pm, I will take everyone to the best pizza joint in RI. Then we can go back. According to accuweather the rain is supposed to die off at about 2pm and be fine for at least 6 hours after that.
Hope to see some of you there.

the COG is surprisingly low... if you looked at my buildup the originall mock up had the batteries underneath... it severly limited travel up and down in the rear hinge.... the batteries will definatley have to be played with...
and noob... dont hold your breath my fabbing skills are suck at best...build a body will be interesting ....at best

your fab skills are far greater then mine, i dont even have the materials or machines to bend a piece of metal.
