My friend gave me a little buggy that he got from another friend, and I have decided to build me a sand rail with it. I will be making custom A-Arms along with the chassis that I started on today. I worked on it for about two and a half hours today, but ran out of materials so I couldn't finish. Here is a pic of the doner buggy along with the unfinished chassis.
I put a 12t motor on the buggy but I will eventually want to upgrade to a brushless system. The problem is that I don't really know anything about brushless. So throw out some ideas of what you all would use.

Well saying the weight of that thing i would use a maxx bushless system yes they may be big but the ment to push a 20 lb car abound at speed of 40+ so it would be a good choice to make. but thats my 2ct.

That looks pretty cool. Go brushless, if it is going to weigh alot go with a Maxx brushless system.

You are limited by your gearbox and driveaxles, just like any rig. Brushless power goes as high as you want to spend. I would keep it under 1hp peak with that driveline.

Yeah Skippy, I saw yours and was blown away. I decided to build one my self after I got the buggy. I went with 3/16 steel rod because I am extremely hard on my trucks. (I have a T-maxx that I had to modify the roll cage on because I was constantly bending it.) I am willing to sacrafice a little speed for strength, knowing that if I made it out of brakeline I would end up with a crumpled pile of crap.

The project has shifted a little. I found out that the orignal buggy I was going to use was a Team Losi XXT. Yes, an old old little car. The outdrives on it were pretty mangled and finding some new ones has proven futile. Then a guy from my LHS was suposed to bring in a Pede tranny for me, but he can't seem to remember. So therefore I purchased this Stampede off the bay. Pretty cheap, 100.00 bucks and the guy claims to have never driven it in the dirt. It comes with everything in the pic plus a couple 7.2v packs. Should come in sometime next week, Then I can finally finish this.

My main race cars are an old XX, and a XX-T. Still going, still beating brand new cars, and with an LHS that still has enough old parts to rebuild them twice over, I'm good to go. I hate to see another XX resigned to the dustbin...

Well after starting out with an XXT and then going with a Stampede the wheel base on the original chassis was way too short. So I had to build a new chassis, one with a 15" wheel base. The chassis is about 75% done. I still have to make a servo mount, add a couple more gussets, some tabs for the panels and some shock mounts. It will be my sand limo. I had a knock at my door today, it was the mail man who brought me my new Novak SS Plus 5800 brushless sys. Things have been hectic and I find myself short on spare time but I will post more as I progress.
