UTRCRC Scale/Trail Runner Class RTI Ramp
In Utah we are starting a Scale/Trail Runner class and we will be incorporating a maximum RTI score for all Scale/Trail competitors. To run in our "STR" events the maximum score you can have will be set at 500. Score 500 or less on a 30 deg RTI ramp and you are good. We will have a 30 deg ramp at all the UTRCRC Scale/Trail Runner events.
I thought all of you guys here at RCC would like to see the RTI ramp I threw together with some scrap aluminum this holiday weekend:

That looks good & strong. Good idea!
Just for a comparison...
What are the RTI scores for those two rigs?

Thanks guys...

What are the RTI scores for those two rigs?RTI on the Landy is 483 and the J2-TT was around 850 (can't remeber exactly)

Pinchy.....how do you determine what is "scale" and what is not?
PS. I pm'd you. check it!

Actually we are trying to figure that out right now. The RTI score is based on average RTI scores of 1:1 rigs that I found around the internet. 500 on a 30 deg ramp was a good score for most of the 1:1 street legal trail rigs I found. Check this out for more info on our full scale requirements we are working out right now: http://www.utrcrc.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=443
-checking PM now.

right on.
a lot of guys out here have been talking about a similar class but I just couldn't see how it would work because the scale thing is so objective. I like the idea of having to pass the Pinchy test to be able to compete in that class.

Hmmmm, Maybe you should post the dimensions for that ramp.
We have several interested in a scale class as well.
We could use the "Pinche" test as one of our requirements.
It could be the GOLD standard!

How is a score established using one of these?

How is a score established using one of these?
OK....
The formula used to determine the RTI of you vehicle is as fallows:
Distance traveled up the ramp (just before one of the tires lifts off the ground - measured perpendicular to the ground from the axle nut, not where the tire patch makes contact with the ramp).
DIVIDED BY The wheelbase of the vehicle.
Then MULTIPLIED BY 1000.
EXAMPLE:
Your rig traveled up the ramp 5" and your wheelbase is 11.5" so... 5 (divided by) 11.5 = 0.4347 and 0.4347 x 1000 = 434.7 (435 rounded up). So your RTI is 435.
I chose 30 deg because that seems to be the latest for the 1:1 rig and for someone who wants to build one that os an easyer angle to figure I think. Keep in mind a 20 deg ramp will give you a different RTI score, but the formula will be the same for any angle ramp.

Thats exactly what I was illuding to in the other post on the utrcrc board. But some people get so fawking uptight about scale
...or maybe it's because im still bitter about the "old school" class I dropped 1500 large on, that never happened :x
Awesome ramp "thumbsup"

The dimensions are...
...|...-
...|.........- 16"
8"|...............-
...|______________-
.......... 14"
and the ramp is 2.75" wide
I hope that makes sence.

Nice.
I built one out of steel after seeing rckjeep's ramp.
Larger than that one but it was built for virtually any size rig to be able to use it.

I thought RTI ramps were supposed to be 20 degrees, but I guess they can be any angle. What matters is the ratio of upward travel to the wheelbase, right?
http://www.cosports.com/fwhldr/equipcalc.htm
http://www.4lo.com/calc/rticalc.htm
RTI = height of front tire / wheelbase * 1000

Well... The original RTI ramps were only 20 degrees, but too many people were getting 1000+ scores, so folks decided to make it more challenging by raising the angle to 23 degrees or 25 degrees. Again, many of the more flexible rigs were still getting 1000+ scores. So people started to build RTI ramps at 30 degrees is the steepest ramp so far. Apperently 30 deg ramps are gdetting quite common now.
I made this ramp at 30 deg because I know the guys would like to test thier comp 2.2s on the ramp also and most likely many would score 1000+ on a 20 deg ramp.
