After seeing a couple of unimogs built, i to had to try and build one, also i wanted to try and build my own chassis, i should be getting another tlt kit sometime this week:) , so here are some pics of the donor, it's 14" long from the center of the front axle to the center of the last axle, it's 20" long overall and 7" wide, please lmk what you think:) , i need ideas of the kind of chassis i need to build, suspension recomendations and any useful info.

Cool project! You can whip up a stright-rail chassis with leaf springs and TLT axles (chop up another axle to make the pass-thru second axle) on 1.9's, or 4-link it and run small 2.2's. But setting up a 4-link on a short wheelbase is really hard if you want it to work. Another alternative might be all trailing links on the second and third axles, or a walking-beam setup, or even an all-independent setup using TA02 parts (might be hard to get 6wd, though).

Your options are endless. You've got a good body to start with, so get to building "thumbsup"

Why not forget the 6 wheel idea, and put it on an XC chassis w/ some highlift tires? "thumbsup"

I am thinking springs up front and 3 link in the rear with a Y for the top link.

Micro goat may have hit on this with "walking beam suspension" im not sure what that is, but it may be what im thinking of.

Take a leaf spring, turn it upside down, bold one end to one axle and the other end to the other axle, then mount the center on the frame so it is hinged, kinda like on a road scraper.

ok, so i haven't done much lately, been busy raggin on my touareg with a novak ss 5800  , haven't finished any of my latest projects:roll: , my k2 3s bronco is halfway there:roll: , and i decided to start with this project:shock: , so here are some pics, the specs are about the usual,
Tlt-kit
bearings
Unimoger's link mount"thumbsup"
Stampede Tranny( Dez loves this tranny:lol: )
Tlt wheels and tires(for now)
Steel yokes
Traxxas sliders
My custom made chassis

Here are some pics, please let me know what i can do to make it beter, haven't mounted the tranny and motor yet, the chassis is 3 wide, so it will be a tight fit lmk if you have any suggestions, pics would be better:lol:

I know we all build with what we have laying around most of the time, but I think the colors are kind of killing it for me. The neon green and purple is what I mean.

I really love these builds, and I think you have a decent start, we all know how bad mock up can look.

I think some high lift tires or some super narrow geos would look killer on there.

Good Luck and nice rig.

hey man thanks for the honest comment"thumbsup" , but like you said it's a mock up, stil don't know what shocks to use, i was thinking tlt, i have couple sets of integy's also, tires i was thinking geo's maybe, rims i have some wabash, not sure if 2.2 look to big if not i have some 1.9 backordered on tower, at least we are thinking alike;-) , my main concern is how the hell i'am going to stuff the stampede tranny an motor assembly in there:shock: , keep the suggestions coming guys:)

Here I am bustin my A$$ trying to find a Unimog cab like that and everyone but me are pulling them out of the woodwork.

You've got a great find there. Do you have any specs on the cab? I'm curious to know who makes it.

As far as ideas....I like the 6x6 setup. I think a set of 1.9's would look great on there. I've taken a set of TLT tires and cut off the larger side (the side that has the larger diameter hole for the rim) and take 2 tires and make 1 skinny 1.9 tire. They look great, there a tad taller than the highlifts and they have a great scale looking tread. Mount those on a set of tamiya hummer rims and BAM!!!!

I would also look at using captured springs with turned down TLT shocks. As far as trannies....try a RC4WD R2 and stand it upright or lay it down if you want a more slender look. I like them upright and sticking down past the chassis rails like the Euro Trials Trucks.

Once again....dang nice find!

Thanks!

Off to a good start! I'd lower it, though. A lot. Put shorter/softer springs in, and let suspension droop give you articulation. This will make the truck more stable, as well as eliminate what's sure to be horrible driveshaft angles, and make it look more scale at the same time.

Glad to see some work getting done "thumbsup"

This is a very cool build. I think you should go with a walking beam setup with two axles outback.

Where did you find the Mog body?

Thanks Goat for the comments, Mechanicalbob and Kaetwoo, the truck i bought of some department store here in Honduras, it was roughly $13.00, these stores have a lot of chinese made toys in all kinds of "brands", i'am of to get a couple more today so i will see what i can find out on these trucks.

Hi Kaetwo, the only specs i know is they are chinese and very cheap:lol: , i went to the same store and they had like 6 more like the one in my project and a dozen more that were remote controlled, i also bought another truck since they were on sale:) , roughly $6.50 for the red one in the pics, hope you find the name on the box helpful, but i doubt it.

Kaetwo, i would have to check what the cheapest way of shipping is though, and also if you noticed the packaging on these things is not the best, so i would have to be shipped on a bigger box with padding, let me look into it on monday and a i will gladly let you know:)

I really appreciate that!

Any more done on the build? I'm curious what you have decided on as far as chassis/axle mounts. Are you going to stick with the 4 link? Or go for the 6x6? :-)

Since I'm selling mine I think I could part with these.
I have 8 sets of the these tires and 8 rims. 2 are powdered black and the rest are chrome but can easily be coated to match. I only did two to see if I liked it.
I say make it 6X6. EDIT: But I'm no Expert. :0

I got my new tires for my mog, i still haven't put a bed on it, but is one of my favorites rigs as it is right now, well i can say that i'am impressed with these tires from rc4wd, they are super soft and grippy, 100% improvement fron the hl tires on my initial test run, i'll post a video tomorrow, i still have to glue the tires on the wheels ,and my fj cruiser is getting the same treatment"thumbsup"

I finally decided to get to work on the bed of this truck, and i orignally had though about just putting the stock one on, but i have seen a bunch of flat bed builds on the forum that i have really liked, so i decided i want to go with that:) , here are some mock up pics, the batteries will be hidden away on a tool box that will sit on top of the bed, lmk what you think.
