after seeing the orcrc write-up i thought i'd give the rag top a try.i pretty much copied the way shown in the orcrc thread. i may try some different stuff on the next one. i used a miller 210 mig welder with .023 wire. i need to buy a tig welder . the welds are much cleaner with one. i just need to practice more with the 210 i guess .the wife says shes gonna show me how to sew:shock: we'll see how that goes. LOL. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop1.jpghttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop2.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop3.jpghttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop4.jpg let me know what ya think.

Good so far. After your done with that one. You can start on mine.i probably will !! its kinda fun to build em. i think the frame is the easy part. my wife found some thin plastic at walmart today. its gonna work great. its that thin plastic like the old ladies use to cover their furniture with its .010 thick she bought a yard of it.so i should have enough to make 100 tops, and yes dirk that body is just one i had lying around. i have a brand new one in the shop waiting to be defiled.i'm gonna use it on my K2-3L chassis. we got one window sewn in today, damn it looks great! but i did'nt sew it. i'll post pics when the windows are sewn up. i believe i'm becoming addicted:twisted:

Wow that is an awesome job. You wouldn't hardly be able to tell the difference between the write up and the one you did.

I really wish someone would do an interior on a K2 chassis, I would love to but I am just drawing a blank on what to start from.

Anyways, the top will look great I am sure.

here are some progress pics. we got the windows sewn in ,and all i have left to do weld on mounting tabs . then i'll paint it and put the fabric on and sew the corners. to me, the frame was alot easier to make than the fabric top,but my wifes done all of the sewing work. more pics to come!!! http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop5.jpghttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a307/MOCRAWLER417/ragtop6.jpg

i'll tell her you said so. she is working on another top with only a rear window.kinda like a can-back. shes going to sew the rear corners from the inside so there won't be thread showing. if it turns out good we're gonna do all of them that way. i'll post pics when she gets that one done too.

well, the bronco top is done !!! for the first one i don't think it turned out too bad. jennifer got it sewn up this morning. i think the corners look good "thumbsup" she used smaller thread on the corners than around the windows.the whitish lines on the top are just from wax paper. they will rub off easily. now all i have to do is find my bronco body and mount the top. any color ideas for the body? i also got dezfans frame done and painted. now i'm waiting on the nylon top to get done.

It does look good, but could I make 1 suggestion?

The sides of the roof should come right up to the window's edge.

Where it stops now is at the back of the half cab.

we made a bronco top for a guy over on scale 4x4 .org. he got it in the mail today and this is what it looked like.
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7868&stc=1&d=1180475790

he ended up getting it straight again. he said no welds broke. after he got it straight its hard to tell it ever was bent.
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7869&stc=1&d=1180475790
i guess the top defintely withstood the 1/10 scale crash test.
anyway, i think we'll be going ups from now on.

Here are a couple of photos of a 50's chevy top that we are making .It's gonna be a single rear window canback, but we're also gonna put a small window in the front that should match the rear window of the cab. It should ad a little more to the top as far as scale goes. The tailgate was a little different too. There is a slight angle at each side of the bed. I'll post photos when we get the fabric on .:D

Hey MO, since that last time we talked I've changed my mind about the top I want for my D90. Mainly b/c I painted it Racing Green. So here's what I was thinking...either one of these tops in this color. Something Tannish or Khaki.:) What do ya think?

MOCRAWLER
07-20-2007, 07:53 AM
I think tan would be best. I have a green khaki color, but i don't think it would look right with the color of your body. I will look for some suitable fabric .the top would be a little different than the photos. That darn roll bar that proline puts on everything kind of gets in the way. I will let you know when we get started.

It's been a while since i've built a top . The summer is very busy around here.:-P I'm building this top for BGGRUFF's scale build off truck. This is the first D-90 top i've built. I recessed the top bars to give it a little more sag in the fabric. Finishing at the cab was a little different since the top ended at the rollbar.
