Noob looking at PTI Goliath

Hey guys. Im looking to get into raock crawling. I was flipping through a magazine and saw the PTI Goliath. I was wondering if this might be a good way for a noob to get into rock crawling. I wanted a kit that I could build and put my own electronics in since i have a new radio with 1 more model left on it. Would this be someting I could make work? Thanks and I appreciate it

There's another version of that called the PTI Rock Crawler... It's had some of the work done to it to make it more capable... Maybe look into that one before the Goliath...

Here is the Rockcrawler version. I just got finished building mine a few weeks ago. It's great for some light rock-crawling and some running in the snow.

Yea. the rock crawler looks very nice. I have a spektrum dx3 and was also thinking of getting the same novak xrs esc that I have in my drifter. How much is that Integy motor and what turn? This trucks looks really nice. I wanted something to scale that I could have fun with and go crawling but also something that gives me a bit of a chalenge. I think this truck might be it

Integy Motor Costs 20 dollars... It's the 55t model, good mix of torque and speed.

I had a 65t in there too, but I prefer the 55t in this truck. Lets you do more than "JUST" crawl.

Overall it's a heck-uva deal for 199 from a vendor here. Just add your electronics and you're ready to go. PTI has great customer service too, if you have any issues, just send them an email and they'll take care of you quickly and courteously.

also...what is about the minumun tourque for a servo that should be used on this truck. I dont want to get something that I might already have. Also, any suggestions for a servo?

With the larger tires, I'd say you'll be looking at "least" 80oz of torque (HS645MG) would pull these pretty well.

I'm using the Airtronics 94361Z Rock Crusher (200oz) but I think it's probably overkill.

I think 200 oz. is minimum. I'm running an HS645MG (approx. 145 oz) on 1.5A BEC and it seems just barely adequate. I would suggest the Rock Crusher or Double J sells his Chicken Butt servos which are essentially TowerPro 995s (or whatever) and they have 200 oz... and they're cheap... like 20 bucks I think.

For that little truck, the 645MG is plenty... I use one on my Gecko with a reciever pack to get full pull from the servo 'cos my BEC's only 5V... That servo hasn't failed me once... Ever... There's been ppl that do have issues with them.. One of the guys in my group has gone thru 3 sets of gears for one, but, I have no problems with it at all... But for the $$? The 995 is a great way to go... More torque for less $$...

I have been running a standard servo because its what I had laying around but its pretty much trash now so in goes a "Chicken Butt" (got to love that logo)

What kind of batteries should I be looking for. I read that it takes 5 cell batteries. Im not new to RC just new to the whole crawling thing. Can you give me some example that would work, and I really dont want a li-po since i dont have the recomended charger

A regular stick pack 6-cell should be fine, but alot of people make custom configuration batteries and 7 cells to give it more punch.
