OK guys,
Here is our first annoucement for some crawling and club planning. Crawlin Coles will pick the spot due to his location being fairly central. It will be somewhere around the 70/Turnpike interchange or there abouts.
Lets just use this thread for this specific GTG. The other thread will be for all other info.
I am throwing my name in.
If the weather is not cooperating we will use the 18th as our rain "snow" day.
It is real important that we get as many people here as we can so that we can discuss the future of the club. We will discuss GTG schedules, Club organization, Club Name, Logo, Classes and get to know each other.
When you reply to this that you are coming...let me know what rigs you
will have. This way we can figure out what to run.
I will be sending out a PM to each person to go to this thread...
Look forward to meeting a lot of you that I only know by User Name.

well i am going to be building a K2-3S and i am going to give it to him for his birthday, but that is August so i guess it would be an early birthday present. I just want to get out of the house and go use the my new comp buggy. I am running out of parts to put on. I am havinf Coles make me some delrin links and then i just need to basically mount the tranny and electronics and it is done. I pretty much did the work in a day or two but i ran out of nuts and bolts so i am on hold right now. Whoever said making your servo/ 4 link mount was easy was lying because it took me 2 or 3 trys but i will probably be there if i get everything buttoned up.

Me and StIcK kInG scouted a few spots today. The one I liked best had minimal parking but nice rocks. I like casparis http://www.fay-west.com/fayette/casparis/. I never been back to the mines or caves, but I have crawled there. Just a little bit up the hill there's some nice rock formations. Another place I would like to check out is Beams Rock. I was there a few years ago climbing. There should be some nice spots there.
I'm gonna check out some more places tuesday, but we'll prolly have the GTG in Casparis or Bear Rocks. I've been to Bear Rocks crawln before at Dougs house, but not this spot http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/North_America/United_States/Pennsylvania/Southwestern_Region/Bear_Rocks_Bouldering/ It's one place I'm gonna check out tuesday. LMK what you guys think.

They look pretty good to me. Those areas really remind me of crawling back in TN, where everything tends to very shady and surrounded by trees.
Coles, do you have any pics of the actual crawling areas or just the general pics of the areas from the links?
If parking is limited, I don't see why we can not meet up somewhere before going up and carpooling. Just a thought...

Coles,
Looks good. We will need some detailed directions for some of the people that are unfamiliar with the area. I recall the entrance to Bear Rocks.
I just ordered 20 used tennis balls for gates. I am hoping they come before the weekend so that I can cut them.
This is going to be a casual Meet and greet GTG. Some bashing and good fun. We will have a swap meet so bring your stuff and some money if you are looking for stuff.
We will also talk about the club. We have a veteran with bustedcrawler, he was involved in the Colorado launch and also in Tennessee. He can help us with setting up the club.
Spring GTGs will be casual. We will try to plan the Summer Season to start Comps.
Also, make sure that you check this site on Saturday and Sunday morning to make sure that it is still on. I will post no later than 8am on Sunday if there is any reason that we need to push it. That should give everyone enough time to pull the plug if needed before you get on the road.

Sounds like a good plan to me guys. I will try to help out as much as I can to get this rolling smooth. When the club in TN got started it was mainly GTGs with some spontaneous comps. Nothing office, just a couple of gates to give some exposure to how comps run to the guys who have never competed. Follow the leader is always a fun game to play!
Coles, I just asked about car pooling since I have a single cab F150 on 35s with the 5.8L. I loves the gas, and New Stanton is a solid 45 minutes for me, or at least it was when I went up there to hit the indoor shooting range.

So weres the gtg at bear rocks? Or seven springs? so i can get a idea were to go?
I went to Bear Rocks this morning and took a few pics. The terrain is nice, but agian there is limited to no parking. You have to pull off to the side of the road.
I haven't had a chance to make it up Seven Springs to scout out anything. I know there has to be some nice places up there. Tomorrow I'm going scouting up Casparis and prolly Seven Springs.
Casparis is nice because it is big! It goes from Connelsville to Dunbar Mts. Some of it is private property, mines, caves and state gamelands( that's where I've been) there would be enough room for parking not to far from the rocks. On the side of the road also, but it's a dirt road to get back there, with no traffic, and any low riding cars would have trouble. Last time I was there we saw a mini van bottom out pretty hard and almost get stuck! I crawled here in the summer and there are plenty of rock formations on both sides of the road all the way up! It's nice you can do a lil 1:1 wheelin there to if you like. I'm really leaning towards this place.
Well here's a few pics of Bear Rocks.

In the last pic you can see how close it is to that house and the road is right there. I'll get some more pics up tomorrow. Sorry I don't have a location locked in allready but I've been busy and when I go to crawl it's usually just me or 1,2 more guys. All the spots I saw were nice just not GTG friendly, IMO Casparis is the best and where this first GTG will prolly be. http://www.fay-west.com/fayette/casparis/
I'm puting a crawling course in our track in www.smithtonhole.com , but unfotunately it won't be ready by the 11th, unless I can produce a dump truck load or so of some stone! When it is ready it'll be nice, very accesible, lots of parking and on-site electricity.

I just got back from Casparis. We spent a few hours back there wheelin my buddies Toyota. It's posted private property, but there were a lot of tire tracks going pretty far back. We followed em till they stopped and kept going till we almost got stuck. And it's not labeled State Gamelands until at least, a mile or so in. The spot we're gonna be crawln at is only 4/10ths of a mile back. Here's a few pics:

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/crawln_coles/car.jpg
I'm no photographer and my pics don't do this spot justice at all :!:The rock formations are amazing. I don't know what you guys are used to crawling on, but theese rocks are more than enough for quite a few rigs. Even a comp. It still might be a good idea to carpool because we have to park on the side of the dirt road. They'res a few pull-offs and trucks are recomended but you can get there in a car. The only downside is the private property signs, but when I was there this summer we passed about 3-4 trucks on the way back. And today we spent a few hours exploring the place and saw several tire tracks and other signs of people all over that place! We drove till we could go no further on one trail then hiked up to a Huge cave. Then drove past till we saw no more tire tracks and decided to turn around because we we're low on gas and the terrain was gettin a lil sicc for a stock rig, but it did good for a Toyota, lol! But like I said the crawl spot is only 4/10ths of a mile deep, and if anybody doesn't wanna take their vehicle they can hop in the crew cab w/ me. I aint scared! Well LMK what you guys think and what time does everybody wanna meet up? Are we all meeting at my shop then driving up?

I went scouting agian today. Found another spot, it wasn't posted and it had a little room for parking. Didn't get out of the car but it looked nice. I also went back to Casparis agian. It just snowed yesterday and there were ALOT of fresh tracks. Casparis is the BEST spot IMO, but I understand that there are quite a few guys that are concerned about crawln on private property. So we'll just meet at the shop between 11:30 and noon sunday and see what everybody wants to do. LMK what you guys think
I didn't get a chance to go to Ohiopyle or Seven Springs. With the recent snow I know it's covered up there! Plus it's about an hour drive from the shop. Maybe we can check it out for future GTG's. Some more places I wanna check out for future reference are: Linn Run, Wolf's Rock, Beams Rock and some other places in the Liginer area.

It is easy for you...Just get on Toll 66 toward New Stanton...Get off at 70W (New Stanton). Get on 70W for about 100 feet then get off the New Stanton Exit (I think it is Exit 57). Top of ramp make Left Turn go over 70 and make second right. The shop it down there near the Pharmacy.

Well, I finally worked on my big silver Rubicon scaler and I discovered what had happened to the transfer case that ended my day...
The steel pede yoke that I was using to connect the pede tranny to the maxx tranny had rounded the maxx tranny's input shaft off, so the yoke was spinning around the shaft instead of turning it. I fixed that by drilling a hole through the input shaft for a through-style screw pin instead of the grub screws I had been using... It will tear the shaft apart before it comes loose again! LOL!

I had the same problem with my 2.2 Bug. It is better to just drill through the shaft...it will never slip.
