Well, decided to build my own rig to compete with KingoftheHill (actually got my WK before him, but he got his stuff to make it 4x4 before me) at the upcoming comp at Cougar. Anyway, onto the pics!

The axles:

WK compared to TLT:

Cut out thermoplastic side plates:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/triple-d-racing/Wheely%20king/DSC06274.jpg

My stereo setup. A pair of 250w RAMSA moniters, 1000w QSC amp, Yamaha EQ, and a tape deck. I got all of it given to me by a friend. The cool part is, it has a 1/8" mini plug hook up, so I can rock out with my iPoo while working on stuff in the garage.

Got bored, so I lit a POS LRP AI speed control on fire:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/triple-d-racing/Wheely%20king/DSC06279.jpg

Got back to work on the chassis:

Rear axle:

Basic setup:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/triple-d-racing/Wheely%20king/DSC06297.jpg

The since the stock shocks are just a wee bit to long (and I don't have the money to buy shorter ones, lol), I limited the down travel with a 3/4" length of fuel tubing:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/triple-d-racing/Wheely%20king/DSC06298.jpg

Since I'll be using a stealth tranny, I eliminated the slipper clutch by drilling out the 4-40 holes on one of the plate through to the other plate, then I tapped it to use a 3mm screws, which also hold the spur gear onto the plates:

Carnage! Delrin is sharp before you grind it!

Do you have a side view pic of the truck so I can see what the caster angle looks like?

What is your frame material? Is it a plastic laminated between thin aluminum sheet?
It looks like a material we used to use doing gas station canopy fabrication. Can't remember what it was called, but that's essentially what it was - 1/8" of light plastic laminated between 2 sheets of 1/16" aluminum sheet. Very light, yet very strong material.
Perfect for this application. I wish I still had some of the scrap stock we threw away...

what is delrin and what is it used for?

It's a Dupont chemical compound, super slick. Most commonly used for cutting boards.

This place is about 3 minutes from my house. Call them up. Last time I talked to them I think their 1/4" OD 1/8" ID delrin only came in natural color and their solid 1/4" delrin rod came in black. You can get sheets of it through them too.

FYI, you can get delrin tubing from mcmaster.com Just do a search on delrin on their homepage and you'll find it in various ID and OD sizes.

If you are using it to cover links you can use BIC pens. They are 79 cent for a dozen and fit great. For chassis use cutting boards from Wal- mart, Big Lots, ...

I actually ordered my delrin from McMaster.

I can say that thing impressed me for not being driven before the comp. It is alittle wide for some gates, but worked better than some TLT rigs on others. We went and played around a little afterwards and it hung in with our two other TLT comp rigs just fine. I would suggest a little more shock tuning, but its almost there.

No, no...now don't go out buying cutting boards and calling them Delrin..

Delrin is Duponts trademark name for acetal resin (for Googling purposes)

Common cutting boards you'll see in stores are made from either UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) polyethylene or HDPE (high density polyethylene)...which is great for skid plates, but is a bit harder to find in rod or tube form. Plus it is not as strong or rigid as Delrin.

I'd like to know this too since I have been serchng for some time only to come up empty.

I use two places online to buy all my plastic goods:

They're E-maxx heavy duty drive yolks bored out to fit over the outputs on the stealth.

That would be the E-savage baja TT

I made them, much like the rest of the truck. I work for Good 'nuff Racing. For the record, I first made the truss out of 1/16" aluminum as a proof of concept before making them in 1/8" and decided to ditch the BTA steering for clearance issues.

Nice rig. With the bent lower links, does your drive shaft hit before the links do?

Not really as the axle C's are clocked for max clearance without funky caster angles.

Hopefully I can get this design on a water jet and start selling them. Until then, scroll saw is just a little too time consuming to produce more of these.

A little update. Got my M3K's, memory maker foams, axial beadlocks, castle BEC, straight axles, straight axle blocks, aluminum C hubs, and reprogrammed the mamba max with the software/firmware update.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/triple-d-racing/Wheely%20king/IMG_0657.jpg

While I was working on it, I rigged up a high-steer system. Instead of having the drag link below the servo horn and steering links, I spaced it on the knuckles so that it would be above the horn and link. It has the clearance of behind the axle steering with the throw of it being in front of it:

Rock rings! Fresh from the shop, 1/8" brushed aluminum, countersunk for caphead screws, and some holes for style.

Next thing will be RCP copper alloys as soon as they get them back in stock. The stock ones finally took a dump with the grippier tires.
