how do you cut tire tread

what is the best way to cut the tread on clodbuster tires? i already know what pattern i want to use, but how do you do it? what tool(s) do you use? how do you get the smooth look with out f*cking the tire all up?

I start with a pair of sharp, small wire cutters to remove most of the tread block. You can then clean up with a small Dremel sanding drum.

I just used a dremel, since I didn't have the right kind of cutters. Made a bit of smoke, just wear goggles and a breather mask, and run a fan (or do it outside) Mine turned out ok. And yes, MARK THE TREAD.. I thought I was smarter than that but nope! :lol:

thanks guys, i tried using air tools, like a grinder, and a cut off wheel, messy, and the tire does not like to stand still either. thanks again, oh, do you have any good patterns to try? that would help also.

The holes worked ok, but I got tired of the tires falling off the rim. I dont glue my tires because I would break everything in my axles! (Well, I imagine)

I'd reccomend against it. I punched a hole in once and figured I'd go for the gusto, the tires did sink in well and fold, but fell off the bead all the time.

sounds like you need beadlocks. I have not heard of breaking axles because you glued the tires. I think you would break a driveshaft before the axles would go.

:lol: Its a clod, there are no drivelines. My motors have SO much power that if im bound up the tires will start to slip in the rim, thats really the only time it does it. Trust me, if my tires were glued on, i'd have problems. They don't fall off with my makeshift foams in them, so no worries now, it was just those tires.

I'm using an X-acto blad and making a sort of Baja Claw pattern (or Claw dawg pattern for the RC world). I haven't used the dremel yet maybe tonight. But man does it take a long time to cut them. I'm done with half of one tire. in two nights.

I did it by using flush side cutters to cut each tread as deep as possible. Then I used a dremel with sanding drum. Then sandpaper to smooth it out. Using a dremel or other grinder to shave the whole tread down would just make a huge mess. Like said before, wear a mask and safty googles.

im using an xacto knife and a straight edge razor blade, but i cant stress how important it is to keep it sharp, b/c after one tires the blade can be become pretty dull, but becarefull cause its kinda dangerous already sliced myself a few times.

oha nd after i use a dremel with a stoen wheel, i'm thinking about bringing out hte airgrinder to sand the rest of em down, might be faster.

oh and glue! cause i keep ripping the tires, mabey im a clutz? :oops:

aaa but you see the sharks never killed austin...in other word they didn't do what they were designed for so they might screw up your tire...so maybe that aint the best way ha ha ha :flipoff: :flipoff:
