Thanks to Fireman Jim I now own this nice Boyer Tube Chassis. And of course I love Wheely Kings. So being stupid (4x4 out now) I went and bought 2 more WKs for this project. JIA told me the tuber was made for a clod setup and he was correct. But like I said stupid is my middle name. I wanted to make it into a 2.2 with 12.5 wheel base. This is my first attempt at doing any type of build on my own. I thought I would post up some pics so you all could critique it for me.So here are pics of the frame with WK axles at 12.5". Using 8-32 all-thread and black ink pens to make the links. The rig has about 3 3/8" clearance at center."thumbsup" http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t186/JIAS_DAD/?action=view¤t=1174541105.pbw

Yes I am HOOKED!!!! I have been doing some more to the tuber. I have the WK tranny mounted, made servo and battery axle mounts and made a skid plate for the bottom out of some really slick plastic I found. If the plastic works out like I hope it will, I'll pass on the info on it to all. I want to test before I recommend it. I plan to try a 55 turn brushed motor first, then maybe try a brush-less later. I have a Mamba Maxx and a Z3013 but the motor is a little large so I'll need to make another mount. I'll save that for the rebuild. But I am going to use the Maxx now. I want to see how it works with the 55 turn Axiom motor. thanks for the reply"thumbsup"Find pics of mounts here.http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t186/JIAS_DAD/?action=view¤t=1174495468.pbw

pb, Thanks, it sure make building easy when you buy tube frames like the Boyer. Every thing is so precise. Man I can't say enough about Mr. Boyer, absolutely the best I've seen!!!

looking good! "thumbsup" I would have to say The Scorpion King truly is king (KING OF MY HEART). Since the building of that rig brought JIA and myself closer together and gave us some very needed quality time together. As he states in the article in the May issue of RCD. The building, testing, and rebuilding was truly a great time in my life. And the start of my RC life. Hope this answers your question. Thanks

That article was a GREAT story, I had to read it twice, actually made the eyes water a bit.
I see the bug has bitten you for life now. Can't get any nicer than a boyer tuber."thumbsup" And I think we might have to change your name to Wheely King, not scorpion king:lol: "thumbsup"

I forgot to mention that I used 5000 wt. diff lube in the shocks and they do rebound some. Since the shocks have the air bladders inside.;-)

If you check up on me you will see I stay on til 3,4,5 am. many nights. It's early man. Had to barrow the heart out of the Scorpion King. So I could get the tuber running. I put the 450 park brushless and the Mamba Maxx to work tonight. Rig runs great!!! Now to replace the heart in the Scorpion King an up grade, Z3013 going in next week with a Maxx

Yep, Another basher. Weighs in at 10 lbs. and is not as top heavy as I thought it would be. But your right. It's not low profile, narrow nor light. But it's now running. So I may go to Alabama tomorrow. To try it out!!!

The rig is looking good. I dont really like the shape of the plates you put on the sides of the frame. I dont really know what it is, but something doesnt look right.
Nice rig

Thanks guys, The rig looks better than it performed. I went to an SERCRC event Saturday at Cherokee Rock Village in Alabama. Wow what a nice place on top of Lookout Mountain. Which I found out is really long (starts at Chattanooga). We were on top of the part that overlooks Weiss Lake. Great views, scenery, and rocks. The rig as I was told by JIA is really not suited to compete as a 2.2 and he was right. I still like the way the rig turned out. It looks scale, which is what I was going for. But as it turned out, without dig, with a high COG, and with courses where dig was a must. THe Boyer WK Tuber did not perform well, pointed out on both courses. No problems on power and no breakages. WK parts held up. I am again back to the drawing board. But I had a great time and did some site seeing. Also meet several nice people and made new friends.

4life, Probably that big black empty space I had planned to put the picture of a Rock Goblin. Which was going to be the name of the rig. Something like a ghost eating an erratic line of rocks, similar to pac-man. That part did not get finished.

Should look good with what you have in mind for the side plates!

XTANT, Probably not going to happen this time around (pics on side panels). Think the WK parts will end up on another chassis, possibly another sleeker tube frame. Still 2.2 but a little more along the lines of low COG type rigs. Look for it in the future!!!!

Well as I've said before the Boyer Tuber did not perform as well as I had hoped. So I decided to tear it down and rebuild. I used the same axles, mounts, lower links, tranny, motor and shocks. I made a one piece hard plastic uni-frame (one piece).By using a hair dryer to heat the plastic I was able to bend is into the arch I wanted to use. Using my drimel I cut angles on each end to resemble A-links like JIA used on Ralph. I drilled a small hole in the end of each one and atached them to the mounting hole at the top of the pumpkins. I also cut out holes for the drive shafts to run thru. Then I drilled holes in the sides of the plastic for the lower mounts to fasten too. I also drilled 3 holes for the tranny to mount too. Then I made two shock mounts (one for each end of the frame) for the shocks to mount too. On the tops of these mounts I mounted a flat piece of aluminum to use as a body mount using velcro to attach the body. That was about all it took other than transferring the electronics. Anyway here is the finished product. It weights about 5 1/2 lbs., has 4 ozs. 6x9 plastic beads in each tire. Does not have dig (yet). And just for UNIMOGER I named this one THE WHEELY KING so here are a few pics. Below!!!"thumbsup"

JIA's Dad

Thanks guys, The frame is 3 7/8" wide the motor extends over the passengers side 1 1/2" to the end of motor mount. The battery location off sets this. The wheel base is 12" long by 11 1/8 wide. Keep the wheel base short in case the arch flattened out (has not). Here are the pics body off

I have never tried putting it behind the axle, but may try it in the future. I think it may give more clearance, just have not tried it yet.

I tried a design like that one time, and the back end wanted to crawl up to the the front end when it was bound up. When it got loose it would unload, and flip over. Your material looks more ridged than the what I used. Some side plates may stablize it if does.

I had thought it might move a little and it may but not so you can tell. Thats the reason for only 12" wheel base, was afraid it may flatten out a little. No changes yet. In order to be really competive it needs dig. I have not done that yet, maybe something soon.:)

Fish, The tuber- It was made for a clod and I wanted to try it as a 2.2. JIA had told me I was waisting my time. But I wanted to build it. Anyway the new build is much better, but had a hard time following clod based 2.2 rigs down at FOTO last Sunday, at the get-together we had. I still need to install a dig setup to compete with clods. Still flipping backwards when approaching steep inclines. Rear axle torquing it over. So far the plastic is not moving enough to get any complaints. Wheel base is still right where it started at 12". With dig and driving lessons I may soon be a serious competitor.
