I've jb welded a stampede trans, but in case you want to open the diff back up, is there a way that is easily reversed?

Ummm, it says fill this void with JB...

That's how you do it, take apart your diff til you see this piece, clean all the grease out from around the gears, put the gears back in, fill 'er up....make sure you hold one of the axle shafts in the bottom or it might leak out.

If you use JB weld then fill the void all the way, then put the side gear back in while it's still wet. Now put it all back together before it dries.

is the side gear the one on the top right of the pic?

The crawler store is releasing their diff lockers soon. Drop in and done.

Poster putty can be found at office supply places, Dollar General and probably Walmart and Target.

With poster putty there is less chance of twisting off an inner axle and less stress when the car is turning, but it's so viscous (it's actually a non Newtonian fluid) that it does a good job of getting traction to the ground on both sides.

I used some grease along with the poster putty and so far, so good.

If you really want the diff "locked" then use some hot glue because you might be able to reverse the process. If you use JB Weld or epoxy then the diff will probably be locked permanently. If you use JB or epoxy, grease up the ends of the axles and make sure they fit into the diff capsule after you button it up and are waiting for the JB to set. If it sets and you can't get the axles in because the side gear is in a bit crooked or because the axle slots are filled with JB then you have a problem.

I used JB Weld. I can't see any reason why I would want to switch back to an open diff, as my truck will never be used for high speed running. I can see where hot glue could be removed, but I think I would be more likely to go buy new parts than try to clean every last little bit of glue from between all those gear teeth.

I used hot glue the first time I locked my diffs, it lasted a while but it did tear up and deteriorate...I took the diff apart again and through JB in there, haven't had a problem since.

In other words, hot glue isn't permanent and will probably give out when you need that locker the most. JB it.
