Cool thanks !:-P I like scale looking rock buggies and there's a lot out there. So I'll be searching Pirate4x4 and my picture archives

I like Detail & unique so I'll find something then tweak it a bit

here's a few I like,
Sniper & well I'm really just liking Sniper, but if I were to build a 2.2 then it would be like the new single seat competition crawlers

Killer axel set up. I thought of going with SS but was worried of the weight. Looks good !

What I have learned from 4 wheeling and my current RC super is that you want low weight. So the Axles are a great place to have heavy weight.
I think aluminum is to soft.
Keeping the weight at axle height and lower will give you great COG results

Thanks for the axle props, I may have rushed the build on these though
I was building them thinking I would just attached them with plates like all the other emaxx tube axles guys do. But I want something "Cleaner" than that. So back to design board,

Question? :
What do you guys think about attaching the Large 1" short tube to the Diff with Brazing or JB weld and then Insert the 2nd tube ring inside and fastening toghether with 3 small short button head screws ?
so that the axle are removable. I cannot remove axle shafts from the outside ends because the dogbone end pin is slightly to large.

I doubt the OFNA Jammin universals will break so I could Braze or JB weld the whole axle together ?

Idea
Drawing is with screws
Left First Tube is 1" with smaller middle tube snug fit inside 1st tube
Diff housing is ALUMINUM
Tubes are steel
Now that I think about it, I cannot Braze Aluminum with Steel. I would need to use a Metal bonder like JB weld for this joint

I was looking at the second picture say to myself that looks familiar then it click it was my axle picture. I still have a lot to do to mine. I sracpped the tubber chassis in favor of a stick like chassis.

Yep , it was the best picture I could find.
I have yet to see a real stick chassis on a max driveline
Very cool though

Build update: Wheel Locks

RC4Wd has a disconnect tranny to disconnect rear driveline so you can steer tighter.
but right now it's only single speed, if they come out with a 2 speed version then I'll use it and add a Line lock for the rear brakes.

If Not, then PLan B:

Adding a driveshaft Brake for the Rear Driveshaft.
and use the mechanics like the gas powered rc's use for brakes, like an old RC10Gt

Thanks to the Maxx sticky thread http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5371
I'll be using 5457 yoke for the rotor brake
and the 5453 for the 5mm tranny shaft
and the 5458 for the 8mm Losi Pinion shaft

Humm... I ran out of radio channels LOL:lol:
Servos:
Ch#1 Throttle
Ch#2 Front Steering - 5955 servo .
Ch#3 Rear steer - either a 5955 or a 5995
Ch#4 Suspension- adjustable height servo 5955
Ch#5 Front Dig/ rear shaft lock, servo #?
Ch#6 Tranny shift servo. stock servo

UPDATE:

Well this build will be much slower than I had hoped.
My spending is out of hand, The last 4 months I have SPENT $3400.oo in RC Hobbies, My Toyota crawler, 2nd 4runner , and Tooling.
But the plans on the axles are almost finalized.

Build progress change:
Change in Design on front axles

Braze Aluminum sleeve on Diff cover and use bolts to connect stainless axle housing

also this wheel width is looking like 16" + so I'm most likely going to use OFNA Hyper 8 Axle shafts that are only 5" long each
wheel width should be around 14"
Wheel base around 16.5 or 17"

Another Mod:
6 LED Rock Lights , 2 flood offroad front lights & 1 interior light,

New Parts:
RC4WD 2 Speed tranny & Revo shafts for drive shafts
1/10 scale recaro seats

Update:

NEW PARTS
DX6 Radio
RC4WD 2 speed tranny
but I don't like that the shift rod has no flat spot or hole to help connect a shift link to for the servo. ( emailed RC4WD, But no reply yet  )
But it is spring loaded so it's stays in one gear until it is pushed inward.

REVo shafts ebay, 4 @$25.

Found my 3/4" Speakers so I can have TOONS when Crawling 8)
I'll plug these into my IPOD shuffle under the hood .

It may be awhile for this build, we just bought a house :-P and so have to Pack up , move in July-Aug and set up my new Garage :-P

Wow those rod ends are awesome but man are they huge! Let us know how they work out for ya. Definetly interested if they hold up well. I had a similar idea as far as links and rod ends go and was thinking of using 1/4in solid steel links then drilling and tapping them out but not sure how easy it would be and then there's the weight issue of them. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Keep up the good work"thumbsup"

the thermo plastic rod ends are like 225 ftlbs rated, and they are so light you can't tell you are holding them if your eyes are closed

I'm looking for a Good reliable tranny hopefully 2 speed.
Cause people are saying the RC4wd tranny 2speed is "set for destruction if I use it on my super and a Brushless motor .

So far no luck, I may building my own Darn Tranny !

Yea but it's so freakin Big !

Got a Great Idea :idea::-P
I may do this setup and build a shifting case to use a Servo to engage the GD600 , basically engage a 2nd Reduction Unit
This tranny size is very small and the shape is very simaliar to the Real Thing :)
It also has BRASS Gears ! Don't see them breakin :) LOL:lol:
the belly of the tranns (out put shafts) will sit on pan along with all the motor etc.

ALSO this tranny allows the front wheels to turn even if the Rear wheels get stuck and stop, and Visa Versa. Unlike most trannys the slipper Slips and NO power goes to any Wheels :!:

1st Gear reduction unit is a 4:1.
it came from my rc 4x4 truck puller :-P
I don't know what the GD600 is though?:?:

But together that would be insane CrawL

Mocked up a Top Tube frame for the New Super

I did a quick upgrade to my rear servo

High pressure line STYLE :-P

I used Tamiya color, Anodize from my LHS
3/16 Aluminum tube then tamiya anodize , used that on the servo end
Braiding is from HSC halted.com for the 1/8 Braided tubing .50 cents a foot :)
Servo plug end is just shrink tubing
I might cover the braiding in Clear shrink tube to simulate the new 1:1 brake line.

I don't know if you ever came up with a way of attaching the axle tube to the diff but I wash thinking of doing the same thing but never got around to building it. This was my idea, use 2 large washers and weld the axle tubes to them. Then sandwich the diff between the washers with bolts or large machine screws. this would allow you to get the diffs apart if needed and you could rotate the diff to get that perfect pinion angle"thumbsup"

the Altec lansing portable speakers are pretty amazing, speakers are about 1"1/4 1100mah. I might them instead so I have the latest technology best sound "thumbsup"

RING & PINION - Helical Cut "thumbsup", Team Losi Aftershock Diffs.

Those gears aren't helical;-)

Nice looking build so far. Theres allot of cool ideas going into this. I like it.

I tried running 1/4" steel heim joints for links on my super sometime back in 2004. Theres a thread that SR5Dave started with TONS of options in that area. IMHO,they are just to heavy. Running the delrin links though, will help overcome the weight of the big heims. I used thinwall C1018 tubing for mine.

The rear most tranny plate was flipped.

The tranny plate that the motor mounts to was trimmed to fit.

The tranny case was swapped for an R2 case

The first picture is of a straight cut gear set. You'll see the difference in the second picture. Yours(the thrird picture)are straight cut.8) Nothing wrong with that, they are still a steel ring and pinion and when shimmed up right, they'll be really strong. Yea once I figure out how to get the Braze to work, the braze rod just melts into a ball and runs off.

I heat the area a bit then put on the Flux then heat up but the flux leaves a white to burn surface on the metal so I clean it off with a stainless brush then I heat up again and add braze rod but it just runs off

What am I doing wrong ?

I didn't think you could Braze Aluminium...

crawl rookie
12-05-2007, 04:33 AM
You dont have to apply the flux when you already heated it, dont do that!.
Firts on put some flux on the joint, then apply heat until the flux is melted and the material is red hot.
If you did it right you'll see the joint become an other color than the rest of the steel, thats good. keep the meterial =(steel or brass, or even copper) RED HOT, (sort of cherry color).
Now when its red hot apply some silver Solder and hold is between the flam and joint.
Now it will cover up the joint and leaves a nice smooth surface.

Hope this helped, this is the way i always do it;-) and my joints are very strong indeed. ( i think:lol:)

Succes !"thumbsup"

BTW

Keep heating it until the 'white burned flux' is melted, dont clean it cause you will undo the flux and you need the flux.

Just a mock up, this is not the final chassis or steering wheel

I cut up a new Altec Lansing In motion speaker set (http://www.alteclansing.com/index.php?file=north_product_detail&iproduct_id=inmotion_immini). Very impressive little unit it sounds pretty good with Stereo sound .
TOTAL CONTINUOUS POWER:
4 Watts RMS
• Front Speakers: 2 Watts/channel @ 8 ohms @ 10%
THD @ 20 - 20000 Hz 2 Channels Loaded
SYSTEM RESPONSE:
100 Hz – 20 kHz
SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO @ 1 KHZ
INPUT: > 75 DB
DRIVERS:
Two 25 mm full-range neodymium micro
drivers and two 18 mm neodymium
tweeters.

The Player is a Sony Mp3 player with FM radio and recorder, so I recorded the engine and Exhaust sound on my 1:1 crawler to play on the super

The stock volume was a dual Slide pot Volume only with a separate switch to power it on.
So I am replacing it with a regular 100k 2ch Potentiometer with a switch
it will be mounted to the steering wheel
so to turn on stereo you turn the Steering wheel and adjust the Volume !

The Shifter switches will power on the Crawler radio/ESC , Lights

Thank you for the Compliment LOL:lol: Thinktank

I do like to be different and original.
I really like that Cad picture you posted above ( I found that during my build) I wanted to build something like it (2 seats) but did not feel it was my Place to since the kid (willyswanter) made it and then passed away. I believe his dad and friends are trying to finish his crawler. My prayers go to his family.

The Axle,
It was for sure the biggest and most time consuming . I actually got a bit overwhelmed :-?
So many Welds , Battery holder, Servo mount, axle gusset, lower link tabs, shock tabs all the short tubes I ran out of Space to Do Behind the Axle steering :-( unless I put batteries in front and that would look really weird.

The axle shafts are Angled forward to clear Tie rod to gear housing.
The axles are also angled Down to gain Diff clearance and because I have always wanted to build one.

This whole crawler has been a challenge with clearance but with the rear shock clearing the servo i will just need to make a Shock hoop that sticks out a bit farther than the front as the rear chassis is narrower.

The motor is directly behind the seat and only has 1/4 of space Just in case I decide to try a longer motor such as a Brushed motor.
There is no space from chassis to seat and seat to Shifters/ switches to DIG shaft. Even the Driver Foot is close to upper link

The drive shafts just barely clear the links, and if Corvette engine fits it's going to be tight with upper links.

I hope today I can finish all the Links and Shock Hoops . I having BIG Questions on the Length of my Links there are under 5" seems like they should longer, but I tend to analyze and think to much so who knows . I'll try it and see.

toy4crawlin
09-02-2008, 10:51 PM
Tacked on some front shock hoops, looks like it will have to change or try with droop shocks, forgot about my narrower axles and less slant shocks there is not much travel

also looks like my links are short only 5 3/4 eye to eye, especially my uppers. Troubleshooting how to make room on skid plate to mount them further inward

One thing for sure I'll go for Performance over scale look.
I may lower it from 4" to 3 to be even with axles

Far be it from me to criticize the work of a master tinkerer, but I would recommend bracing that front hoop that the shock mounts are on. My first choice would be to install braces from about where the zip-tied on shocks are attached to bend in the down-bars just above the dash... Looks really good otherwise.

Terribly sorry, I meant "to THE bend in the down bar just above the dash"...
(seen from the side) the cage has a bend in the A-pillars (or down bars or simply where the windshield would go if it had one) just a hair above where the dash board would go. Still looking at the cage/chassis from the side imagine a line drawn from the top of the shock hoops back to the A-pillars, (intersecting with them) right at that bend. It just looks like a natural strong point to me...

I meant "to THE bend in the down bar just above the dash"...
(seen from the side) imagine a line drawn from the top of the shock hoops back to the A-pillars,

oh I get it. But I think that is the wrong force angle for support.

i'm going to move them back, I tried to break it off but it's really Welded good

It came out really well for my first big custom build.
I really want to have a tranny that would be 2 speed so it can crawl but also rock race and get speeds in 20's
all I can do now is a brushless with high gearing for the speed fun and the brushed low gearing for the crawl. getting inside there to change motor is no simple task though, especially changing the spur :?

I have been running the Tekin 55T motors for a while now, both machine wound and hand wound, and they have taken 3S with no problems (pair of 3S Zippy Flightmax 800mAh packs, and sometimes 3S Zippy Flightmax 500mAh packs in parallel). The hand wound motor is smoother and more efficient, but the machine wound motor is also very smooth and efficient. I would give the Tekin 55T machine wound motor a try first, and see how you like it, and if you do (you will), step up to the hand wound version (they make the Integy motors seem like useless paper weights). Tekin products are the best in the industry, and their customer service is second to none, literally! The owner and other tech support & customer service people post on here a lot, and they are just one of us, very nice and super friendly, and great to talk to...they are more than happy to help you out with anything and everything, and will go out of their way to help you and make you happy. I also run the Tekin FX-R ESC, and it is a work of art...unbelievably small, unbelievably efficient, and unbelievably packed with more features than any other ESC on the market...it is clearly, without a doubt, the best brushed ESC made...PERIOD!

Anyway, I have my crawler torn completely down for a total redesign of the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain, but the Tekin FX-R and Tekin 55T motor will still be used!

toy4crawlin
06-14-2009, 01:00 PM
Cool Chad I will look into that. I definetly like Tekin and the FXR is awesome, I bought it for my berg build but heard iit was not meant for Duals so I returned it :-(
Do you think my integy was burning up because of the heavy crawler weight or just that it is poorly made in such a way it cant handle the Drag brake and the commutator is poor ?

I have the biggest Spur there is.
Does this look right ? I dont know what ratio's other single motor Super's are running
My gear reduction is Axial ( 2.6:1 ) with 90/14 (6.43:1) axles 43/13
Total reduction 143.74:1
RPM 10955.7
max speed 1.66 mph

Chadworkz
06-17-2009, 06:17 AM
A lot of people have had some luck with the Integy motors, but they have been the 35 and 45 turn versions, and I have heard that the 55 and 65 turn versions were kind of like the "junK" of the line, and were burning up pretty easily. So, I would venture to guess that your 55t burned up because it just isn't that good of a motor, and the weight may have just sped up the process.

Now, as far as the FX-R and dual motors goes, I have seen and heard of quite a few people running dual motors on it, and it holding up just fine. The thing is, you just can't run a pair of modified motors or anything, but it will handle a pair of 35 or higher turn motors just fine...I have even heard of someone running a pair of Trinity Monster Stock 27 turn motors with no trouble.

I am a truggy racer and the jammin universals will break, and the cast knuckles are very weak as well. just for for thought, thou the cnc jammin knuckles are 42 bucks and will take alot of abuse.the universals are good quality but the will become loose when put under stress.

thanks but I used Losi hyper8 shafts and did a slight grind on edge of dogbone pin to get them to slide into shafts

I have CNC knuckles but they are castor, the screws go in at an angle
dont work.
so I bought XTM knuckles

IF you need jammin cnc knuckles I still have a few, let me know

Wrong place to ask that kristo4x4 this is not a gas build nor a mudder, would be badass in the mud but I would personally never bring it near the stuff with all the electronics (servos reciever ecs badass stereo etc). On another note...

WOW dude I've looked at all the pics soo many times and finally managed to find a video on YouTube of the truck running and the tunes going, very nice on the stereo and on the whole build in general, I was speachless at first from you creativity and thinkin outside the box on this, so many times I was like wow that's an incredibly smart idea, the dig is awesome and I really like the look of the 1:1 brakeline on the wiring, very clean and well built, do you have any more pics of the stereo partnof the build? I'm juuust about to start mine and I bet I could find some useful tips from your pics. Thanks alot for sharing dude I read every page and every post in the last while and i love it dude(I work security so I got alotta time lol) you should get some more vids of it that things such a beast I love it, also you should post up your YouTube username and names of the vids cus if your on an iPhone like me the only videos toucan watch are off YouTube so I had to hunt you down but it was well worth the hassle lol, again incredible build and thanks for sharing I've learned cool tips from you and am inspired to take my project a step further than I intended

Your project sounds fun.
However your questions should go in a category that is related or general.
I do not have a home made transfer case, using a axial tranny.
I listed all the parts on the first post
My diffs are LOSI 8 Diffs then attached steel tubes for the axles.read the build and you will see.
Losi hyper 8 axle shafts. if you want wider axles then use Ofna 1/8 buggy shafts.
the diff case and gears are Losi 1/8 buggy, either Losi 8 or the biggest Losi LST.

P.S, a polite thing to do if your going to ask a bunch of questions on someones build thread is to at least commend them on their build.

good luck

Thank you very much Tom "thumbsup"
I really appreciate your feedback.
Let me see what I can dig up for stereo pics, that was the very end of the build where I was running out of time to finish. But I will help you where I can.
Found a few
First pic is the Altec Lansing 4 watt system 2 full range 2 tweeters
I decided to go with 6 watts which is the 4 equal size speakers, requires 6-9 volts.
Last pic you can see it on the left all taken apart and the PCB board in clear shrink wrap.
Let me know if you have other questions

cool lowrider.
what are the plans for it ? any other engine work ?

My Youtube name is 4Rracing, there you can see my list of videos including my street luge racing.

I am a truggy racer and the jammin universals will break, and the cast knuckles are very weak as well. just for for thought, thou the cnc jammin knuckles are 42 bucks and will take alot of abuse.the universals are good quality but the will become loose when put under stress.

Losi seemed like a better product so I ditched the Jammin stuff. and the ofna CNC knuckles are angled so havent been able to adapt those.
Im using LOSI shafts and holding up great.
Parts broken thus far is:
Axial tranny Idler gear
48 pitch spur gear

Tranny is now all Robinson metal gears with Yotachump 4130 output shaft and a 32 Pitch Spur.

slick rig....if you can make clearance for it, go after either a 10T or 7T holmes hobbies cobalt puller....your big boy here is a few ounces shy of my stretched ax10, and the 10T makes that thing scoot, and it's got way more torque than I could possibly need...

(at worst, see how hard it would be to flip direction on your axial tranny and point the motor towards the rear to clear the motor)

cool thanks, I am really considering it, no way to flip tranny and keep the seat so I'll just cut into the seat some more and hopefully not have to move seat frwd so the Driver will still fit

I'm a bit surprised I have not seen any RC's yet with music in them, other than I think the guy that built his own winch on his custom crawler.

I built a berg, well actually built it twice and Now I am back and sis some re working and touch ups, Like the Front shock mounts and painted the speaker box

Just need to paint up some new body panels and a new roof.

What I have done so far

sweet build man! im working on mine with a 1/6 scale Silverado body (gonna be a truggy when its all said and done), and im using RC4wd 1/5 scale axles. A bit pricey, but i think it will be worth it in the long run. Also, if your looking for a tough 2 speed tranny, go with the traxxas summit transmission. its a bit large, but will handle what your trying to do just fine. Im actually going to use 2 summit trannies and 2 brushless motors on EACH tranny. So its gonna be pretty tough in the end. Once again, sweet build man!
