Wheely King Durability

Hey all
I was wondering how durable a Wheely King is, as a basher. Are the tranny and axle internals strong enough to hold up to BL power, a Mamba Max 5700? How does it do, handling and jumping wise. I will probably lower and extend the wheelbase some, but for right now, I just need it as a basher.

I had mine out yesterday jumping curbs and such and it held up fine. I streched the wheel base and changed some shock mounting locations and it worked out fine. I'm worried about the steering being all plastic, but mines destine to be a crawler some day.

I stretched the wb and added a Mamba Max 7700 with a 17/96t gears, an it is awesome. I have only broken the servo saver and a shock end, but it was really my fault the house came up on me too quickly.

The axle shafts are really weak, and the steering bell crank on the front axle has broken for a few people, but other than that, the thing is practically bullet proof! Unfortunately the axle shafts are hard to come by.

I really don't understand why you say the axles are weak. The Scorpion King weights 9 pounds has been on all types of rocks in five states has rolled, fallen, flipped and ran head on into rocks of all kinds. And I have not broken anything accept the plastic bell crank. And that was driver error in my first 15 minutes of driving on the rocks. I hung a wheel under a ledge and blipped the trigger/ snapped the bell crank. If you broke an axle maybe look at it as driver training like I did. Hey, If you don't break anything you not driving hard enough!!!!!:D :D :D

Unfortunately the axle shafts are hard to come by.

MY thoughts on axle shortage and by the way I have 4 sets on back order. The WK 2 wheels drives became popular due to strength, size and durability. People like my self started converting the 2wd to 4wd for crawlers by buying 2 2wd trucks. So HPI sends out a supply of axle shafts and right away they are gone and on back order because everyone that had the 2wd drives and those of us with extra axles wanted to buy them up. But in the mean time HPI also wanted to put out the 4wd version and they also needed twice the axles they had in stock. So who's going to get shafts. You got it, the new 4x4 kits. Mean while we who need replacement axle shafts are left without. Yeah, I feel like I'm getting the shaft too. But I do think the next shipment that shows up will last longer as the demand will taper off now that the 4x4 is out. I am still waiting along with you for axle shafts.:lol: :lol: :lol:

I haven't read everything in this section but at one time was concidering the WK as a base for a crawler. I was too impatient and went with the TLT. Anyway, I tend to look at the strength of the shafts like I would in the 1:1 world. Diameter, material, and if there are any neckdowns. Are the WK shafts 5mm like the TLT shafts? Are they a stronger material? How's the thickness at the dogbone? That's what it's called right, where the stub shaft and inner shaft connect? I'm tempted everyday by this section to sell my TLT and order the 4wd WK.

both are 5mm. They appear to have similar strength. Both have neckdowns. I saw both TLT and WK inner axles break at RCX.

I broke one (And several others have too) on my very first drive, where I did nothing harsh. What is so hard to understand? I spoke with HPI the other day on the phone, and this is practically an epidemic! I have a feeling there are many trucks with flawed axles though, as many have no issues.

All I could break was the stock shocks. And I tried hard too.......

Ive had my moabs wedged in every way possible and the only thing that has slipped is the internal transmission slipper. Maybe there was a batch of weaker axle shafts made."thumbsup"
