What, no brake?;-) That's cool, freewheel helps in some situations, but being able to lock up the rear axle will give you the most benefit, and a tighter turning radius. I like how smooth yours works."thumbsup"

that is a sweet setup. i though about doing that to a scaler but puttin the dig on the front so you could lock the 4wd in and out. have you herd of anyone doing that?

where is the " dig tranny " ? all I see is a servo moving the driveline from 4wd to 2wd, no brake, no tranny mod at all. How does that set-up work under full articulation? looks like it may fail.

Unimoger,
Thanks for the Ericksons, they are unbeliveably fantastic! Could you elaborate a bit more on what a "dig tranny" is from your point of view. The "dig" concept is new to my world (just the past month or so) and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I've seen kreepy's in person, and it does tighten up the turning radius and allow all sorts of cool maneuvers on the rocks that I cannot do with my "undug" rear end. But I don't know anything about brakes or tranny mods? Any info would be most helpful before I set off and start building. Also, having seen this truck in action, it does work at full articulation. Thanks - Da Chimp

yeah unimoger, could you elaborate or provide a pic or two to clarify for us unknowing? i could see how a brake would add a definate advantage. i have to say though, that even set up like it is there is a huge difference in the turn radius as well as the ability to pivot the truck around by hooking a rock w/ either rear wheel or to slide the front end around or over on a pretty steep climb. i'm LIKIN' it, but i wanna LOVE it!
it does not come out/in at full stuff, the collar seems to be right in the middle and its acting sort of as a pivot or hinge for the "dig" to have full free movement and articulation is very good. i've had to limit it in fact quite a bit w/ some fuel tubing.

I think part of what Unimoger is point out is there is no adjustment at the tranny (like a 2 speed would do). Yes, it is a dig (with no brake) but it isn't exactly accurate to call it a tranny dig.
I do like how it pops in and out fairly smooth. The one time I tried that, it wasn't nearly as smooth. Are the splines ground down at a 45 degree angle?

A dig tranny would be like the R2 with rear disconnect, the dig system is part of the tranny.
Your setup is just a dig setup, it has nothing to do with the tranny as all it does is disconnect the rear drive shaft, and its completely separate from the tranny. Also its not a true dig if you are not locking the rear axle as well.

o.k. that makes a lttle more sense. yes the shafts are at a 45. i ground them and then used a jewelers file to clean up each of the splines so that it goes in and out smooth-style.
i'll check out the r-2 closer and see what thats about.

Ya, ya, but that was soooo last season:lol: Donovan just put dig on his, he has freewheel and lockup. Very 8) , might have to put dig on Britt's, but I don't want her to beat everybody that bad.
Looking forward to crawling with you again Kreepy, keep up the fabbing:!:
