Yup, that's what I 'm talking about.
Slam it down as far as possible.
I like the shock mounts sticking through the hood.
I gotta get that new body painted for it.

yeh, i think i'm about ready to slam my body down against the backbone. I tried the tall body untrimmed thing. I like it at first, but not anymore. I might hack up my bronco body and put that on it. the last shot is great, shows the funky articulation/body relationship. The tall body as it sits now:

yeah i am running the mayhems. I personnaly love them. I ran them in my gecko at the green River comp a cfew weeks ago and took 3rd. They have plenty or torque with 9t pinions but give me good wheel speed which i like. That was with a 6 cell. Now in the stick they are almost two fast with the 11.1 lipoly. This thing probably runs 10mph. It is balistic, considering it is suspose to be a rock crawler. LOL. I will probably go back to lathes now that i am using the lithiums. Not sure.
But yes i had to bend both the links to clear the motors. I am using the TTR motor mounts but still had to bend the links. works good though and doesn't effect anything. I used 2 spacers on each side to help extend the links out from the chassis. Here are some pics

Eeepee- sweet truck! looks badass!
likes2crawl- thats a dodge powerwagon body, it fits the stick great, I just wish I had painted it a different color.
Kevin- I love the behind the axle steering also, looks way better up front (makes truck meaner looking) and it's easy to do on a stick chassis!
I had to sell my stick awhile back due to cash problems, but things are looking up and I may be getting back in to crawling soon...if so I will prob. be in touch for another stick. ;-)
as a matter of fact how much would the total be for a stick chassis with steering, comp. clod axles, and a tq3 modded cost? (hook a brother up a little if I buy all at once?) PM me when you get a chance.

07-03-2005, 11:25 AM
that's exactly where i trimmed my body. although i mounted it lower, the sides hang below the chassis. I'll probably raise mine back up some.
what rims are those? Looking good man.
My BTA steering was giving me fits today. I might have to switch it back to the front too. But i'm working on improving the BTA setup.
EeePee
07-03-2005, 11:52 AM
How did you mount it lower? I'm sitting on the top of the shocks. Did you cut into the hood and bed?
Those are the Pro-Line Maxx Velocity with the offset. Just stretch the tires. I bought them in an attempt to get a little narrower than the StableMaxxs. As they were supposed to be according to manufacture's websites. They ended up being a touch further outboard. But they look pretty cool. Little heavier than the StableMaxxs too, oh well.
About the BTA steering. I couldn't get my servo saver to fit, or what I did to make it fit, I wasn't happy with. I had to use a rigid arm, and I would go through servo gears everytime I went out pretty much. So, back to the front it went until I had the desire to to futz with it again. There's defiantely an advantage to the BTA set-up though.
kevinlongisland
07-04-2005, 03:59 PM
yup, i cut into the body and bed so the upper shock mounts stick through. i like those rims, i might try a set out. yeh, i do love the bta. but if it's not working properly it not's worth it. I have to go back to my original servo saver, i had no problems with that one (ofna).

I did sell one chassis to a guy down in australia, but don't know if he's on RCC or what his screen name is.
i just tried to fit my battery like that. It's really close. It doesn't fit flat on the axle tube brace, it's just a little too long. But, the tires don't hit. That could be the future battery location up front there. I may have to make a special plate to raise it up slightly.

Hi guys.
Kevin your correct , that's my green truck the Mantis down in OZ.
EeePee were did you get that pic from , i think it's only been posted on our Australian crawler comp site.
To fit the battery like that i just put a spacer underneath the plate nearest the diff on the axle tube , this angles the plate enough so that you can fit the battery flat .
I also dremeled a bit off the top shock mount so that at full artic the battery wouldn't hit the shock mount, thus limiting the artic.
Sorry i havn't sent you any pics yet Kevin , but i havn't competed since the last time i spoke to you.Going to wait till our OZ Nationals and then i'll post some pics up , there going to be held in a realy insane area and the pics should come out great.

Ok , that's one of he guys we crawl with website .He's opening up an indoor tracks/hobby store and competes in our crawling events , so we post our results there.
And Kevin the stick is doing well , i have only entered two comps and at the second comp i came second , not bad considering this is my first crawler and i was the only one that didn't get a roll over the whole day.The only thing that let me down was the steering circle on my truck , i have since dremeled off the steering stops.
Gotta also say thanks to Kevin for the battery reccomendation. It has plenty of punch and i nearly get through a whole comp on 1 battery.
Anyway enough of my ranting next time i'll have some pics to post.

I got to put it through it's paces yesterday. Works Phenom! Busted my front servo twice so ****canned it and got 2 Hitec 5645's. Also it seems the truck is very light. Nice problem to have because then you can add weight where you want it. I added 9 oz to each wheel in the front and I will see how it does tonight.

It's going to be held at the international 1:1 4x4 show which is going around the country at the moment .So there will be thousands passing through the doors over the three day event so i thought i better get a new lid as well.
They are setting up a course for us at the 1:1 crawler display so it should be awsome.

Finally a poser shot until the next comp, you can't tell in the pic but the green used is candy green.
Forgot to mention the other mods.
Proline beadlocks narrowed an inch .
Track gears through the whole diff f/r.
TTR cvd's.
Placed 2mm lead sheeting ( we get this from roof tile shops down here) which i cut into 8mm wide strips and wrapped it around the axle bearing carrier inside of the steering knuckle. Iv'e got 7oz in each knuckle on the front and you cant even see it.
Also running the cvd's with Benders 23mm adapters , this narrows the track width by only 5mm each side.

My rig wound up looking almost identical to JIA's and DTP's..... wasn't on purpose guys, I just reused the parts I had from my previous rig (TXT).;)
I ran the truck for a few minutes today and it worked Great! (especially considering there's no rear servo yet and I was running on a 700Mah 6-cell AA pack) :) We'll see how it works for me in the comps this year..... I'm still kinda new to the 'Clod Thing'.:D

OK, so I'm trying to decide on where to place my batteries. I'm using Sub-C's and I've noticed that some of you guys have split the packs between the front and rear axles and some have put all six on the front. It would seem to me that too much weight on one side of the axle would be bad, whether its the front or the back. So whats the concensus here? I'm thinking of splitting the pack between the front rear, I just wanted to see what you guys have to say first.
Tom
kevinlongisland
03-01-2006, 06:27 AM
Most of the people running sub-c packs have split them up and put each half on the short axle tube braces. You can also put them down on your knuckles and keep all the weight up front.
FrankyRizzo
03-01-2006, 06:28 AM
I ran 8 AA pack on the passenger side and the steering servo on the Drivers side. I never had problem. I ran 9 ozs of BBs in each tire as well.
kevinlongisland
03-01-2006, 06:51 AM
I think most people including myself have noticed that the stick does not really behave poorly with what seams to be unbalanced weight on the axles. I run a full 9 A cell pack on one side in the rear and never notice any strange handling characteristics.

Here's a little performance tip I've been running for a while and I like. Use fuel tubing on the shock shafts to create a "dual rate" shock setup. This will allow you to run light spring rates and get good low force flex at low articulation angles. At higher articulation angles the fuel tubing will significantly increase the amount of force needed to articulate. This will help stop the axle from wrapping under the truck and other negative performance characteristics.
http://www.thecrawlerstore.com/images/Xtreme/DSCN7395.JPG
Also, I made up a new battery pack that is smaller, lighter and shaped better for the stick. I just tested these for the first time today and they work great. Send these first two files to cheapbatterypacks.com and they'll make the packs up for you.

Hi,
I have bought a Proline ford f650 from my local hobby shop in Rome.
This body is approx 51,5 cm.lenght x 19 cm width. (for larger scale)
Do you think is suitable for my stick. Or for the stick in general.
I have seen a lot of photos with more little bodies
for example....
this
http://img136.echo.cx/img136/4862/ya1ll.jpg
I am thinking about the laterale clearance of the body with the axles completely tilted.....
It seems to me that little is better...? or not???
What is the BEST size for a stick body???
I can get only proline or HPI bodies... in Italy.
Bye
Mario
p.s. I don't post photos yet because my stick is still ugly, and in contruction....
Surely I will post photoes in the future.
kevinlongisland
03-01-2007, 08:49 AM
That body is a little large. It's about 1.5 inches longer than the body I run. But it's not longer than the overall truck length. So it's up to you.

That is my first clod crawler.
Kevin, i have changed the body with a more little HPI DODGE
What colour I can choose????
I would like it green "army"
Where I can find that colour???
Of course I am planning to update it....
first of all changing those wheels (and akso tires)
Anyone knows what exagon fit XTM THORNS WHEELS?

That body looks good on there! Nice choice. You can paint it any color you wish. Your local hobby shop should have the correct paint to use on the lexan material. I believe the xtm thorns rims are a 14mm hex.

well, my "ROD" is almost completed, cant call it a "stick" beings it is my own build, have to decide what shocks I want to use out of the various sets sitting around, and get some 55t lathe motors still, my conceptual 4 shock compound mount system is mounted, and looks like it is going to work awsome, got my custom built wheel adaptors done now, and about to mill the adjustable motor mounts out this week sometime, I dont know where I am finding the time to get in front of my mill and lathe for more than 30 mins at a time, but things are coming together......
Kevin has already seen the prototypes of the compound shock mount for 4 shocks....:)

This is definitely a cool variation of the stick chassis concept. I'm sure the readers will enjoy the pics when they're up.

Thanks Kevin, I'm not so sure that I will post pictures to the general public though, ya know, either one of two things will happen: 1: I will get bombarded with requests for a setup like that, or 2: someone will copy the design and make a profit off it. Either way, I dont care for either idea personally, I don't have the time to spend making these, nor do I want someone else soley benifitting from my idea without a benifit to myself at the same time....
I was thinking that I could give SOMEONE design rights on this mounting assembly for an in store credit of lets say a couple 55t lathes, (2) 8 tooth pinions and set of 4 internal spring 4 inch shocks.....WINK WINK......LOL :-o Dreamers we are, but dreams spawn awsome realitys !!!
