no, i don't have metal tranny gears... BUT if a vendor would make a set they would sell nicely!!!
i am on my second set of plastic ones now.. and i don't even lock the slipper!!
i do have a heavy finger though..

R2.
I know how you feel, wanting to use what you have. Fact is though, metal gears are REALLY expensive unless made overseas like RC4WD does I believe. Plus you get rid of the huge spur gear. They are good trans and really a great deal for $80.

I've been told to stay away from the R2 if I'm running brushless (and I am) because they won't take it. Thoughts on that Harley?

Honestly put the WK trans is a horrible trans to use for a crawler.
Think about it
Its huge.
It has a terrible reduction.
Because of its size it is heavy.

I think Losi and AE buggy trannys are the way to go.

I would agree"thumbsup"
Durable, small, good reduction, parts available at most any hobby shop.

actually all setup and rotated the way I run mine it is only 1/2 oz more than the b4. and correctly done it takes up 1/4" less width than the pede tranny.
and the entire trans can be bought for around 15.00

fact is with all the wk's out there, lots of people are going to use the stock chassis.. that means they will keep the stock tranny also. i personally am going to keep the stock chassis and tranny until my ax10 comes. then i am building a scale 2.2 with the wk axles.. but until then i would pony up for metal gears and so would alot of other people..
so to the vendors: make metal gears (i don't care if it comes from 5,000 miles away) at $12.00 each set of plastic gears i would pay 40-50.00 for metal anyday!!

you probably have one of those sensative fingers, to many broken wrists left me with the heavy throttle finger!!!!
acually the broken wrist is what got me back into RC's earlier this year!! i race motocross, but with the broken wrist i needed something to do.... and now i cant get enough !!!

i had a mamba max, 50 turn lathe and stock wk radio when i blew the bottom gear 2 times (i did use more throttle then i do now, because i had a cast on my left wrist) now i can use more throttle control with the full use of my hand !!!
i did switch over to a moped v16r, because the mamba max is for the Axial Scorpion i have on order..
but, if i can eliminate the weak link in the tranny i want to use the wk for a 2.2 scaler build.. and it will get beat even harder then.. so if there isn't gears for it by then i will most likely use some other tranny.

I've got a very heavy throttle finger also, and I've run the stock tranny clocked with a 45t, 15/96 gearing, had an xl-5, now have a rooster crawler...haven't had any problems with the tranny yet..
(and yes I knocked on wood:lol:)

Well it finally happened to me:x, i destroyed the small gear that comes from the driveshafts, i was testing my Junfac beadlocks and sticky lizzards on my rockpile, i was in a bind, not much, but with the bl motors you know if you don't let go of the throttle something is going to give in:lol:, this time it was this tranny gear, i guess the wk is going to be sidelined a couple of weeks:-( while i get the parts from tower hobbies, i do a have a couple r2 and stampede trannies, but i want to use the stock one still.

Hey boss I have another complete tranny for ya, send me a PM

Yea, I just ordered two complete gear sets for the WK - maybe I won't blow the same gears every time and those two sets will last a little while.

Ordered 2 sets of gears from tower for the wk, after i go through them i'll probably go with a r2 with disconect

To be honest, I know I'm going to break things. I'm running a crawlermaster on 14.4 volts. Performance is incredible, but of course all it takes is a slip on the throttle at the wrong time to tear something up.

I don't know what kind of scaler you are going to build with the WK axles they are way wide for a scaler, tlt's stick out of most bodies a little:roll:

Yeah the WK axles are very wide. However I put the Nitro MT knuckles and drivecups in one set of mine, using near zero offset wheels and it isn't all THAT bad.
I have some pictures but haven't uploaded them.
And on to the actual subject, I have found the stock to handle brushless just fine. It is all just about knowing your rig and its limits.

whenever i figure out what body i want i'll have to do a mockup with the axles.. it will be a 2.2 scaler by the way... if i have to narrow the axle i will, i kind of want to try it anyways..

Hi Harley, i understand limits just fine;), it's when you are going for a little wheelspeed and a tire gets caught in a bind suddenly that has probably killed my plastic gears, so hopefully tomorrow when i get my 2 sets i will have one sent to a machinist to get them done in aluminum.
