View Full Version : My Blackjack/ Axial build

Well I got my Axial AX-10 today thanks to RCP for the super fast shipping.
I have been testing a new design here in Sin City and we are calling it the Blackjack. It is a purpose built comp 2.2 rig. I have incorporated many aspects and ideas from all of the rigs I have owned and tested. I know that one rig is never perfect but it does have some cool features.
Some of you may have seen some of the pics I have posted and thank you for the questions and comments I have received. The rig you have seen was built of of the TLT and stealth platform. I will now do a build based on the Axial tranny and axles. When Axial announced the AX-10 I contacted RCP for specs and some insight so I could design this chassis.
Again a big thanks to RCP for the fast shipping and the design help.
Well I got my kit today and in my excitement I took the instructions to work to look them over and then forgot them at my office. Well I went forward with putting the axles and tranny together and then realized they have instructions on Axials web page. Well after auditing my work they were put together correctly. So far here is a pic of what I have going. I will keep the build going. I know I am going to have some fabrication to do because of some of the differences in mounting locations and such. I have to say that once the pieces are put together they are very stout. As far as I can tell it looks like Axial did their homework and have a great product going.
I hope you enjoy this build as much as I do. I will post some body off pics of the TLT platform so you can see what the target goal is.

I got the plates mounted to the skidplate today. The Axial tranny mounted up like it was meant to fit in it. Here are the pics of the chassis so far and the body off pics of the TLT platform.

I will be making up the links and such tonight if time permits. It appears they are the same length as the TLT platform.

I got the lower links done. They are actually the same length as the ones I am using on my TLT platform with the fat rock C's.
I should have the upper links done tonight.
FrankyRizzo
08-22-2007, 10:12 AM
Well I ditched the upper link mounts. I ended up using the three link setup that comes stock. Looks way cool and cleaner. I mounted the shocks as well. I will throw up some pics this afternoon.
Brandon
08-22-2007, 10:19 AM
Looks great! Are you using the same shocks as the tlt version or going with something different?
FrankyRizzo
08-22-2007, 10:27 AM
Same shocks. I just removed the outer spring because it does no good anyways.

Wow rizzo those h.c. links are saweeet. The curved style links are probably much for affective than the bent to an angle links. You can most likely slide up/off/over obstacles better and not get stuck in the kink of the link, brilliant idea!
Agree it looks better with the 3-link. Killer build, what body you going to run?
braceysdad
08-22-2007, 10:31 AM
Would I be correct in assuming that you are running a 45/55 set up since the front links are bent a little different than the rears?
FrankyRizzo
08-22-2007, 10:32 AM
Those HC links were actually a mistake. I made them in a vice bending them in 2 spots. I don't like how they look. I like the ones on my TLT version better with just 1 bend. I will make another set when I finalize the build. These were in a bin so I just threw them on to see how it would look.
I appreciate the compliment though.
As far as body goes I might do a Hello Kitty pink stadium truck style body. Not sure yet.

I mocked them up with no rings. The Pentas are waiting trust me. If you notice one wheel is chrome and that one has the Penta on it.

Franky, are you using the stock 87t spur? My crawlmaster rubs the tranny with the 87t, and Im wondering what size spur I should replace it with. Thanks,

Would you look at that...The chassis is lower than the top of the wheels.
My TLT version is the same way. Like it was designed that way. Hmmm.

Yep we will have these chassis available just as soon as we can. They are a VERY stable well thought out design.

Went out to Valley of Fire today. No idea why. It is nothing like the rocks in Moab . The Chassis was very stable and the AX-10 axles and tranny worked very well. The only problem was for the hell of it I mounted up the Rock Lizards and they are not the tires to run at all. I had both platforms out there and the TLT with the Losi Rock Claws was hooking up very well. Diesel and I met up with Gimbal for a little pre Nationals testing.
