I just got an E-Maxx last night brand new. The steering sucks on it unless it is going. Is this common on these trucks? I had a Stampede years ago and it seemed like it had a lot better steering, but maybe I just cant remember that good.

Yup, the steering will barely turn if sitting still.
Not a big deal on a stock maxx...
Might check the pillow balls out on the knuckles, if they are to tight the steering will drag. Does the steering return to center after a turn or continue turnin just a little?
You can upgrade the servo if it bothers you.
So when are you going to 4-link it into a crawler?

The steering returns to center. I think I will upgrade servos soon, it just bugs me.
I think I will wait a little while to 4 link it. My wife wants one now too, so I will wait until she gets hers to really tear into it. I did change to 12T pinions and it is a lot better crawling. I need to find a 72T spur for it now though. And put spools in it.

well, the pede has smaller tires than the E-maxx. the hi toqrue servo of traxas has about 80 oz of torque, but since the EVX only puts out 5 volts, it doesn't actually put out 80 oz.
also, since the stampede has alot of kickup, what with it being 2wd, the tires have less friction when the tires turn.

Putting bearings in the bellcranks helps too. My bushings wore into the posts and then it would barely turn.

i ran my stock steering system for over two years (16 months with stocker, 6 months with CS70MG, and another 2 months with dual CS70MG) and the bushings didn't ware into the posts, although they did scratch the anodizing off of the posts.
i run the pro-line kit now and it is smoooth like buttah.
