PM ME YOUR E-MAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU THE PDF

Well I came up with a very simple and strait forward servo mount for the RC4WD R2 transmission with disconnect.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p56/jtbusa/R2D%20Mount/digservomount.jpg

So I created a template quick and thought I would offer it to all that wanted it, free of course.

Here are some pictures of the prototype, it is slightly different then the final version. The final version has been improved.

.........and a video.

E-mail me at jdthiede@transystems.com or post your e-mail address and I will forward you the PDF template.

Very Nice work.... Simple....:)

The dust cover also needs to be to have a relief drilled in it for the servo mount screw, this allows the plate to sit flush. You will understand better when you do your own. A template is included so you can mark where it needs to be drilled as well.

VERY EASY!!!!!!

Linkage rod is 63mm eye to eye, or about 2.45 inches.

Looks like you could help RC4WD out a little with this. Nice and simple.

Good job!"thumbsup"

My slow a$$ comp is doing a rendered animation of the computer model right now. Should give everyone a clear view, probably completely un-needed but what the hell :-P

This really is just a super simple plate.

That's cool Josh....

Did you make it out of Lexan or Plexiglass??

Hurley0706

Made it out of some generic polycarbonate. There is a plastic store down the street from my office that sells me these sheets that are about 2 foot by 2 foot, 4 sheets for a buck "thumbsup" Then you just score it with a razor blade and snap it over the edge of the table, easiest stuff ever!

I use them for everything, great for prototyping. This has no noticeable flex when using it though, so this material is staying:lol:

Dude, you got to much time on your hands, that's a good thing for
us though ... Just keep bringing the awesome ideas!!

Question, Could you countersink the servo mount holes and not drill the
relief in the dust cover?

When you get a chance, can i get a .dxf please, i think i smell burning
plastic. ;-)

IF someone has an R2 handy (doesn't matter if it is an R2 or not) and is willing to try something for me that would be great.

I already had someone test fit the PDF but I am wondering if we could do this an easier way.

Print this picture out, on normal 8.5" x 11" paper and lay it against the transmission. See if the holes line up, might have to try a couple different scaling options, either scale to fit or don't scale at all.

If the holes line up perfectly then let me know what you did. IF you can't get it to work I will delete the picture and just do it the old fashion way, until I can get JIA to host it again for me

I would be great if RC4WD could make the clear cover the same size as your plate. Countersink the holes on the backside so they mount flush. Then you could have this in one piece!

Great work!;-)

I will try and make one out of Delrin tomorrow.

I was determined to use the mount that 'supposed' to be made for this. After a little head scratching, this is what I came up with.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g140/Jen01581/crawler/DSC03992.jpg

Now I see Harley made it even simpler. Oh well- I will keep it like this.

If anyone has this "steering kit" from RC4WD and wants a quick parts list/how2 (all stock TLT parts btw, no mods needed) I will post that up.

Anyone looking into getting a R2d, go with Harely's way, save yourself alot of time and money.

Nice job on the fix Harley; "thumbsup""thumbsup"
if my printer was working I would try your print out for you.

Harley.. I printed it last night, but it didn't print out the right size. It was probably 75-80% scale.

I got the collars at hobbytown, they part number is GPMQ4304. They are the 1/8" size I believe. They have a 4-40 thread hole for a set screw.

They are actually for plains, there were 4 in a pack and they came with 4 set screws and and allen wrench for $1.39

Thanks! Now I can use these extra parts RC4WD sent me. However, Harley's idea is something RC4WD should look at. It will help to keep the extra weight a little lower.

Hurley0706
09-09-2007, 11:44 AM
Yeah that looks like a nice strait shot to the shift arm, but it does put the weight up pretty high.

This mount, keeps the servo as low as possible, but does take up just a tiny amount of room in front of the trans.

I agree, I think they should just make the dust cover this exact shape. I should just shoot them an e-mail. Hopefully they are open to suggestions.

Again if I missed anyone on the template let me know. And no, I don't have any idea when these will be available through RC4WD.

Couple pics of a laser cut plate. Made from delrin, works perfectly. It also eliminated the stock RC4WD plate.

I think you must be using a lower grade Delrin. I can't even get this one to bend noticeably when holding it over the edge of the bench and leaning on it (within reason).

Again everyone, as of now these aren't going to be for sale. I am just giving out the template. I just happened to get lucky and have someone who cut them for me:-P

H.
I think his servo is mounted quite a bit higher then yours which would
make the mount longer and possibly give it more flex too..
Just a thought....

Great Idea and I can't use it, not enough room.

SW3 chasiss and Novak Goat motor , mounting side of the R2D for the servo is about 3/8" from frame, no room. DARN

Guess I'll use "mrpink" method better than the bell crank set up I was using.
Good work "mrpink"

The R2D can either let the rear shaft spin freely or it can lock it in position. That video has the rear shaft locked (rear wheels can not spin).
