Gluein new treads on an old tire

I've read about glueing tires back together after narrowing and such. Guys are using thin CA glue to "tack" them together,then using the black rubberized CA glue to seal them up. Could a guy use the thin or medium CA glue only and just use it all the way around the cut,eliminating the rubberized glue. I got a bottle of black rubberized glue from my LHS,after I got it home I relised it was dried up. He was good enough to give me my money back so it's no biggie,it just got me to thinking. The thing that got my attention was,it was hard as a rock,as in not the least bit flexable. Thats why I was thinking,maybe you don't need the rubberized glue cuz it gets rock hard anyway.

Another thing, if I was just glueing tread blocks to make a different tread pattern would using only thin CA work and hold the new knobbies on?

I mean,is there something "special" about the rubberized CA glue that bonds the 2 rubber pieces better?

well i tried to do that with out the ca first run out my new tread was droppin like flies but i got the rubberized ca and i have been driving the crap out og my car and it still has not came off so maybe it does bond better

If I remember right, rubberized CA is meant more to eat the 2 pieces of rubber and fuse them together, so itself is not super ply-able, but the connection it makes is.

yeh it melts the two together so its like they were made that way becuase it wasnt totallly fdry and i pulled one off and it was like goo lol

O.K. ,Thanks guys,I guess I'll need to find some rubberized CA then to go any further with my tires :)

i used thick CA for plastics and just used alot of it to do my wheels and theyre holding up

Well,I was more concerned with the tire part. I've got my wheels narrowed,took about 1 1/2" out of them. They are holding up pretty good. I broke one today after work but concidering the crash, 6 end over end rolls down the bank behind my house then slaming into the stack of my scafolding behind the shop,I'm not really suprised. I've got it glued back together and everything is good again for tomorrow :twisted:

I can't wait till I can get some rubberized CA so I can do the tires. I've got a pretty crazy idea of how the tread will be. Crazy tread design from outside bead all the way over the tire to the inside bead 8)
