I stretched my wheelbase, slapped in a Novak 8.5 brushless motor and I'm having a blast with it. Not crawling of course, but I don't have a good location for it.

Yeah, start using that search button and click around to every main forum thread on here and start reading. You will eventually figure out what is popular and not so popular.

Some good spots to start looking for your parts build:

It all depends on just how deep you want to dive into this. What type of resources do you have? Are you on a tight budget, or do you have unlimited funds? What are your goals? Do you want to crawl for fun, or competition? I started a couple of months ago using HPI's stretch tutorial http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76326 which will give you a great stock chassis crawler to play with. But for me it just wasn't enough. I soon found OFFROADER5's chassis templates and using kitchen cutting boards I built a low COG, high performing crawler on a small budget. Here is my build thread http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85581&highlight=Casper

I hope you find this to be helpful, and welcome. Cheers!

Do you have problems with the stock drivetrain with that kind of power?

I didn't have anything strip and there was no clicking from the built in slipper. I have now changed the chassis to a K2-3L with a pede tranny. I am having some problems with the yokes on the tranny side because the outputs on the pede tranny are smaller than the stock one, so they pivot and wobble. I may have to mod the stock tranny to go into that chassis or figure out some pede/maxx axle hybrid...

To build a crawler, or to build what I did? Because I just threw stuff together I had laying around. The K2-3L I bought last year but never used, the shocks are aluminum adjustable ones from my old Duratrax Maximum ST, I made a quick axle mounted servo plate out of some aluminum, made the suspension links out of brake line and threaded rod, used some aluminum U channel from Lowes to make the lower link/shock mounts then slapped in a JR ST126MG servo and some mashers on axial beadlocks.
