What is a Lathe motor?

I am new to this hobby, so bear with me on these questions. I've recently bought a Wheely King 4x4 and am interested in upgrading. I keep reading about lathe motors. What exactly is a lathe motor? What is it's benefit over the stock motor? What do the number designations for lathe motors mean (55T, 65T, etc.)? Are lathe motors only suitable for slow crawling?

A lathe motor is an electric motor that was origionally designed for a lathe, most notorious is the 55t Integy lathe motor. The term has really morphed into a catch all phrase for a high wind motor that works well for crawling. The 55t means 55 turns or winds. Your stock motor is 27t, and much faster with less torque.

Lathe motors can be used for all kinds of speed if you want, just increase your voltage to get wheelspeed back with no sacrifice to torque. Axiom motors are Integy lathe motors that have been tuned.
