Hope these tips help:
1 Narrowing the inner rim pushes the tires slightly outward making track width wider for more stability
2 Narrowing the outer rim pushes the tires slightly inward making track width narrower to help get in tight places
3 Narrowing both sucks the sidewalls in to put more tread on the edge of the tires for more sidebite. it also helps to give more sidewall support to tires with very soft sidewalls when you remove the foams.

Hacksaw works the best, nice and slow so you wont screw up your rims! :)

Take a file to it afterwards to clean em up, turns out great! (Just lay the rim down on its side and take a big file to it and make it flat)
