Hey All, well after much thought, and many long hours checking out some of the awesome 1:6th scale builds on this site ( STANGKILLA SS's -Big Joe, and others) , I have decided to build another Nylint Jeep bodied Clod. I actually have a 6" lifted Fullsize 1:1 Jeep Wrangler TJ to go by for reference, so duplicating scale realism shouldn't be too hard. I've also got a few tricks up my sleeve too..!!:lol::lol: Heres what I have so far, I know its not much yet, but stay tuned...."thumbsup""thumbsup"http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t270/jeepman1977/HPIM3779.jpg

Before I forget, and before I catch crap about it, I KNOW Its a NEWBRIGHT body, and not a Nylint..!8) LOL..
Heres what I am capable of doing with these 1:6th scalers. This is a build I started a few years ago, and never finished... This new TJ won't be quite as insane as the black one, but I want to make one that could pass as a daily driver, and weekend wheeler, like any real 1:1. Oh yeah, and it is HEAVY..!!"thumbsup""thumbsup"

Then theres the Willys- This one is actually the first 1:6th Jeep I ever built. I still have this one in the basement. I usually bring it with me to all the local car shows during summer, along with my REAL 1:1 1951 Willys M-38..!!:shock:"thumbsup""thumbsup" http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t270/jeepman1977/2ndWillys-1.jpg

What type of axles are you going to be using on this build? Clod axles or
are you going to have drive shafts and a trans. I would go with a trans because it looks more scale. "thumbsup"

Where did you get the motor? The scale one in your jeep.
51WillysJeep
11-27-2007, 07:05 PM
I thought about using TXT or Jugg axles /and tranny, but I don't really have enough room to stuff all that in the lower chassis, and have the body fit, without hacking the interior.. SO I am going to use clod axles.
I found that motor a few years ago at Toys R' Us. Its a 1:6th scale chevy 350..! The company that makes these also makes a TON more, Ford v8's, Hemi's, and Supercharged versions as well. Check out e-bay, as I've seen alot of them on there before.. "thumbsup"
I got some progress done on the chassis tonight, ( no pics) but mounting the upper shock mounts is turning out to be a BIATCH. Oh well, I love em' but you know what they say about jeeps....... Just Expect EVERY Problem..!!! LOL !

LOL, Yup- Sometimes all to often, it does stand for Just Expect Empty Pockets..!!
Well, I just got in the mail A brand new set of 1:6th scale Nylint MT "aired down tires", But I am debating on mounting them, after feeling the tire compound. They seem like they will be VERY slippery when they're wet. However, they do look cool as hell, so knowing me, I will still probably mount them up, and just use the heavy right foot, when it gets slick..!!!:lol:"thumbsup".
I'm planning on getting alot of fab-work done on it tomorrow, and hopefully I can get some more pics posted too....Building customs takes a LONG TIME..!!;-)

Hey Guys, Finally got some work done on it today. Got the suspension all mocked up, and the shocks finally mounted. After trying to fit the body, I had to do some grinding in the back, (under the rear seat), then try re-fitting the body, then do MORE grinding, then more re-fitting...etc, etc..until it all eventually came together.
I am going to be mounting a high torque steering servo up next to the drivers side frame rail ( just like on a real jeep), and lockout the rear steer tomorrow, as well as whatever else I can get done on it.
It actually flexes alot better than i originally figured it would, all in all, so far- so good..:) What do you guys think..? Any suggestions..?

Your 1/6 TJ looks sweet but those tires are just way too wide.
I've got a 1/10th NewBright TJ that I was going to use for something but am thinking of getting rid of it.

Where did you get the metal for the frame rails?
From the Local Hardware Store. Its just square aluminum "U" channel stock with 3/8" round cross bars. Its a very basic, yet strong chassis design because I know this things gonna be HEAVY when its all done.

Got more done on the chassis tonight. I was planning on mounting the steering servo up in the frame, (and I actually did mount it there) but no matter how i mounted it, or how I attatched the drag link to the tie rods, it just wouldn't work. When the drivers side suspension compressed, everything was fine, but when the pass side compressed, the steering always turned sharp left. Each and every time i tried something different to fix it, it wouldn't happen, so I said the hell with it, and mounted it on the axle. works fine now..!"thumbsup" Anyways, almost done with the chassis, and next step is the body , and paint work( my favorite part..!!) :lol:http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t270/jeepman1977/HPIM3804.jpg

Thank You WranglerCrawler. Well, Its finally "ALIVE"..!! I got all the electronics installed today, and drove it in the basement. I had a few bugs to work out on the chassis, but it flexes sweet now.."thumbsup" I also got to make some aluminum "Poision Spyder " style rocker knockers tonight, and install them.
Next up, is a custom winch plate, and a WARN winch, as well as a "swing away" tire carrier:shock:.. THEN onto paint and final body work, before she's ready for her first date with the rocks..!!!"thumbsup""thumbsup"

Thanks guys.., I made the winch ( Pictured in post #31 in primer) and the bumper out of "evergreen" flat plastic stock. I also used a ( believe it or not )"custom" cut broken Tamiya Pajero main spur gear and a couple of round plastic dowels on the winch !!! . The teeth on the gear made for a PERFECT looking heat sink..!! I wanted to build the front end a little different from the rest of the 1:6th jeeps I've built, and seen.
Well, I wanted to get as much done as quick as possible on this build,to get it on the rocks before winter hit.., but I should have known better, because right now theres 2 1/2 feet of snow outside, and its like 14 degrees out..!!!
:x SO I'm taking my time now on the build, and I am going to really concentrate on the DETAILS..!!!! Now I've got all winter..!"thumbsup"

Hey..., I got that from Toys R' Us a few years ago.. Its a 1:6th scale motor, and they come in different models.. ( Fords, Chevys and Hemi's, etc ) . The only problem with them is they are VERY heavy.., ( made of metal) and will sink the front of a truck right down.. I haven't seen them in the stores for a while now, but check E-bay, as I know they are still some on there..!

Hey John- Glad to see you down there.., It was also cool to meet Brett, Matt and Brandon too.. Everyone I went with had fun too, granted i was a little sore from driving the Willys for a grand total of 6 1/2 hours round trip.. (with NO power steering OR power Brakes..!!:shock:) - but when it was all said and done.., I'd do it again- In A Heartbeart..!!! "thumbsup"

Awesome...
I was beginning to wonder as I read thru the thread how many more posts I could go before someone was offering to purchase...
These look so different taken out from under a tiny 1/10 scale lexan body all chopped up, and all scaled out to correct proportion
Looks great, amazing attention to detail there too

Now I wish I hadn't taken that Newbright back to WalMart . Making them look real is more than half the fun. Nice job!
