Hi all, my names Todd and I'm now addicted to the wheelie king:lol:I had some extra cash and have been dying to get crawling so off to the Hobby shop.

My intentions were to get the needed hardware (tubing/ threaded rod/rod ends etc, etc....) The guy I dealt with told me he has broken a few rod ends and recommended this kit. Now clearly in the HPI write up the turnbuckles are different lengths from top to bottom to keep the driveline angle appropriate. I get that. When I got home and opened the package I found the turnbuckles have the same thread so there IS NO ADJUSTING. (Yes I know the ones you make on your own dont adjust but at least they are the right length.)Just tighten them up and go. there are 4, 6mm bushings to lengthen the rears but both uppers are the same. I'm thinking this kit was not very clearly thought out.

Please tell me what you think, I hope I explained this ok.

I also bought an Integy 55t motor,Traxxas pn#1951 drive shaft pkg, 93/15 gears, and a 4200mah battery.

Ck out the pics.....think I should just mod the ends of the upper tri-bars?

BTW, How did they get the steering to work after the susp mods? The steering rod only has so much adjustment and appears to be not quite long enough....and oh, I've ordered the 96t spur gear too.

The uppers measure 45mm longer than stk.
The lowers measure 38mm " " "

Looks like your off to a good start. But if you want the truck to perform better you need to lock the diffs. It would make a huge difference.

You'll need to lengthen the steering link. I used 4-40 All-thread.

As far as the aluminum kit you got (it's a RC4wd kit)... I agree. I actually have the shorter version and the upper isn't wide enough. I'm working with RC4wd right now to try to find a soultion:-(

Hopefully yours fits correctly. As far as adjusting them, you shouldn't need to adjust the links because they should have all been built to match.

I'm honestly not sure WHY HPi did a 40/60 setup on their WK mod. having the same wheelbase length front and rear really doesn't make any difference in driveline angles, nor really in the performance of the truck, except that with their set-up the rear has more flex than the front, which CAN help keep the truck more stable, if it's set-up properly. Also, I think they lengthened the rear more because they were running the battery in the rear of the truck. Once you move the battery up front (flip the chassis around) rear-ward rollovers become much less of a concern with these trucks.

I made a new steering link using 6-32 allthread. I tried 4-40, but it had too much flex. The 6-32 sleeved is much more stable.

I will lock the diffs too. I think thats probably the easiest and most effective mod.

The pn# for the RC4wd kit is X-0376. The uppers are wide enough and they fit well in the chassis. Here I go.....pics to follow

You can lock your diffs without spending a penny, just liberally squirt hot glue over the gears in the diff case. And should you want to unlock the diffs remove the diff case and submerge it in boiling water the glue will melt away.

i woulden't use hot glue because it won't be able to handle all the tork of the motor and it will just brake in to little tiny pices.

Littledeuce...I've was checking out the RC4WD X-0376 kit last night! I'm thinking of getting that kit. Let us know how you like it once it's installed and post some pic's.

Ya tis the season to be busy and my family has me tied up so I havent had any time to get too much farther. I have the front mocked up and ida know....the articulation isnt as much as I expected. The upper mount for the shocks is quite forward now and will have to fab up something there. I put the project out of kids reach for this evening. Dont worry I havent forgotton about pics.;-)

Happy New Year to all!
