Never seen that happen. Looks like a clean break.

Maybe just a bad part. Was that the rear output?

Normally the shaft would have given up the ghost first, but those punisher sahafts are pretty solid......you are only as strong as your weakest link. Something has to give huh?

| It was the front output shaft, bought the replacement part already but I'm thinking maybe I should upgrade tranny's maybe a rc4wd? the axial outdrive seems to be kind of weak now that I've had a chance to really look at it.

cant tell from photo..spot where the shaft sherred off ...is that a hole that goes through to inside diff? if so is it machined that way? if it is machened is it concentric n what size is it? got 2 AX-10 trans n dont want this happening to me so i am wondering is this a one off defect or a design flaw:? if its machined that already got fix in mind |

I had the same thing happen to me and I was using stock shafts. The break looks exactly the same. I refused to pay $21 for the part so I drilled and tapped the broken piece to 5mm. Then I threaded a piece of 5mm allthread in there, ground a flat spot on it and havent had a problem since.

Damn, another strike against the Ax-10. I was thinking of using the trans in my next build. Oh well looks like I will use another R2. |

This is not a strike against Axial, it is simply the weakest link breaking. I run 2 small Brushless motors on my Ax10, which I have previously busted CVDS in my TLT. I have stalled these out without any damage using a fully charged 3 cell lipo. The axial transmission and axles are very strong. (I am using TXT shafts, no they will not work in a single stock transmission Ax-10) |

EeePee taught me long ago "Weakest Link Theory 101". I'd rather pop a drive shaft (only done it once anyhow) in a competition and be able to fix it than break a transmission. Steel is stronger than the aluminum output shaft...doesn't take a genius to figure that out. |

My vote for the next weakest part is the axle shaft.

I rather have a driveshaft break then having the output shafts or a ring-n-pinion get munched. Two minute fix verses a major tear down.

| Raptorman! keep in mind that you are a awesome fab. man and the average joe might not have access to that kind of machining.
