Default Yet another failure

I really starting to think about just sticking to real 4wd's. This damn thing is costing me just as much

Truthfully, I really dont think that I am being that hard on this AX-10. While in the back yard today, the rear wheels deciced that they dont want to turn with throttle now. I disasembled the rear diff and nothing is broken, but I can hold the rear tires, give it some throttle and I can feel something giving way in the rear diff.

Driveshaft spins fine
Grab both tires and go oposite ways with them, nice a solid. Rules out locker
Ring and pinion are not broken

Could the pinion and ring gear not be meshing? It's hard to determine that when the only way to check it is the axle assembled
The only thing I can see is that there is abit of movement from where the bearing rides on the axle housing side to side. I cant find anything to shim it over. But it doesnt seem to be enough movment that would cause a problem.

Please give me some helpfull advise, before it becomes a lawn orniment

Tighten your wheel nuts.

You have broken your wheel hex's, $10 buchs says that there are tiny cracks in the point of the hex. Either get some aluminum rims, or glue in the plastic hexs.

Yeah, sounds like the wheels are slipping on the hex drives or the hexes are slipping on the pins.

Checked your wheel hexes? Might not twist with your hands but with the motor torque and wheels bound up they might slip.

Another thing, check the hex pins are still in there. I had a front hex come loose which loosened the wheel nut leading to the pin coming out. Luckily i was on the kitchen floor.

Wheels are fine, I can spin the wheels by hand and watch the outer axle stub shafts turn also. It is definatly something internal. I just cant see exactly what is going on inside the axle.

I also assembled as much as posible with the axle shafts into the locker assy and twisted them as hard as I could and it is solid.

I'm gonna save it for later.

Oh, and get more set screws so each side has them.

Beat me to it!! Mine does the same thing. I even used blue loctite and it still backed out. It hasn't done it for a while but I check those before every use. Cheers!

Same thing happened to me. I could pull on it a little and it wouldn't slip off the shaft but it was loose enough not to hold. Glad it was an easy fix for you!!!

That's alright, I have been around the block a few times. I can handle it, and I'm sure if I knew abit more about these RC's I could dish it out just as good.

This is the Pirate4x4 site of RC's

Yeah its the loudmouth ones that cry lol. So the inside of the maxx output is bigger than the diff pinion right? Someone needs to chime in with the part numbers for the smaller ID shafts, I cant remember which ones are the smaller ones.
