the biggest spur one is able to fit without grinding is an 84t, there is about 1/32 inch of clearance

Will the 84t spur fit if using regular 3mm screws to secure the yokes? I'm using an 84t spur now, and it comes very close to the spur.

i got the 87t to fit with grinding the yoke lip flush. If it rubs, it very very little.

yup. im using 3mm phillips screws to secure it to the driveshaft.

the spur actually fits between the screws and the tranny

Great write up! I've had a set of Maxx shafts sitting and waiting around to be put in my Scorpion but I haven't spent any time trying to figure out how to make it work. Thanks for doing all the figuring and the great instructions.

Needed to find a way to hook up Revo shafts to an AX10 tranny for my Twin Force project. Just read this thread for the first time. Great info. Thanks Raptorman57 for hooking me up with the link. Figured I would post up to bump it up for others that may not have seen it the first go around.

Default Maxx Shafts made easy.

Could someone post the part numbers for this mod please?

So it sounds like the Maxx yokes 'always' need some grinding to clear the stock spur or else an 84 tooth or smaller spur gear, needs to be used, correct? Also do the upper links need to be moved to the outside of the "stock" chassis plates to clear the Maxx shafts?

I just did this mod to my sons AX-10's front shaft. He's running the factory 87t spur and it clears.....barely. I had to be carefull on the bolt though,I used a short button head bolt to attach the yoke to the tranny. All is good.....barely. Don't know why the uppers would hit anything. Our chassis are only 2" wide with the uppers inside and they don't get in the way of anything.

I saw this was originally posted a couple of months ago, anyone have any updates on how this mod is holding up over the last few months? Alot of the guys here are having the drive shaft problem and this looks like a great solution. Thanks for posting the mod in such detail.

I've been beating on mine lots. So far the only con I see to doing it is some limitations on how big a spur you can run.

Just for reference in this thread:

TRA4927X TRAXXAS Output Yokes,Trans:TMX.15,2.5,3.3
TRA4951X TRAXXAS Heavy-Duty Drive Shaft: EMX, TMX, TMX2.5
LOSA6238 Losi 3x6mm Motor Screw Kit

It appears to have never been answered.

Now I have a question that is also pertinent to this thread. For those of us without lathes, how can we drill these out trued? I have ruined two sets of the yokes trying to do this. If I step up the bits in increments they work until I get near the 29/64 area. That is pretty damn hard to hold even with pliers. The bit just grabs way to much material and kills the hole. That or it snaps the yokes. I tried making a jig out of wood and that simply snaps the ears off of the yoke.

Can anyone elaborate on how to do this without a lathe please?

Thanks.
Jon

Its just a lathe...any machine shop can do this for you in a matter of minutes.
Took me less than 5 minutes on our lathe.

I will quote myself I guess. I ruined 2 sets of the yokes trying this with a drill. Can anyone tell me how to do this with a drill? It is damn hard or maybe I am damn stupid.
