Default Maxx Shafts made easy.

Sitting at the shop a few weeks ago I was trying to figure out how to put Maxx shafts onto my Scorpion without having to drill the outputs on the tranny or the pinions. Bender told me about a way that a few of the other Colorado guys had been doing it and it sounded perfect.

I decided to snap pics so everyone could see this simple mod.

First pic is the stock Axial steel yoke and a stock Maxx yoke.

This next pic show the first step, cutting the ears off the stock Axial yoke. I used my lathe, but you could use a Dremel or even a hacksaw.

Now you can see the modified Axial yoke sitting next to the stock Maxx yoke.

Next you need to drill the hole in the Maxx yoke out with a 29/64 bit. Once again I used the lathe, but you could just use a drill.

Once you get the Maxx shaft drilled out you can slide the stock Axial yoke right into the Maxx shaft. You can see here it's read to go together.

Here's the last pic showing it all going in. You can use 2 3mm screws on each shaft. They just pass through the Max shaft and thread into the Axial yokes.

Excellent tech Jason.

If anyone needs some Hex button head screws for this, LOSI has some that work great. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA6238 They are the gold screws in the link.

It look s really good. But I was wondering if you had to grind down the max sized yoke on the transmission end so that it wouldnt rub you spur gear?

You can grind the OD of the Maxx shafts down a little to clear the spur, or go to a slightly smaller spur and be done.

I just ground the yoke a little, you may need to grind the end of the yoke so it clears the AX10's tranny housing too. Here's a link to my install.

Good write up J.
Rubbaneck told me about this when I switched over to maxx shafts a while ago, I've been running it ever since and it works great!

btw, that's a pretty sweet new RCCrawler.com logo.

edit:

is this right 4928x for yokes, and 4951x for sliders?

Like Bender stated, you could grind them down. Just for an example though....I'm running Revo shafts on my Axial tranny and a 81t spur. There is about 1/16" between the two. Stock being an 87t spur,I doubt it'd take much smaller spur to clear the Maxx yokes.

Try looking in the TLT section, I saw a similer article using TLT drive cups with Revo shafts.
