New Comp Build.......SWX......New Production Pics!! 3 Attachment(s) Well, it's time I made the jump to AX10 gear for my newest comp build, with all the goodies needed to be as durable as possible. My TLT axled comp rig has been good to me, but I have been very impressed by the few SW3 AX10 crawlers I've seen in action. I've done a few of these builds in the past, but this one is actually for me. "thumbsup" First up............assembling the axles. Going with the durability theme. I'm starting out with Axial's aftermarket heavy duty ring and pinion, as well as their heavy duty lockers. 8) |
1 Attachment(s) Starting with the rear, I'm going with the straight axle conversion and aluminum lockouts from RCP Crawlers. Since 4ws isn't allowed in the 2.2 class this is the strongest most efficient way to go on the rear axle for a comp rig, as well as a scaler. |
3 Attachment(s) Start by dropping the locker into the diff case provided with the AX10 kit. Install the gasket on top. Then, screw the ring gear onto the diff assembly, and slide the bearings into place. Slide one bearing on each axle shaft, then lube the ends that fit into the locker with a little grease before installing them. |
4 Attachment(s) Next step, install a bearing onto the axle's pinion shaft and install it into the axle case. Make sure bearing is seated all the way down in the housing, or your gear mesh will be too tight. Now drop the diff/axle shaft assembly in place, add grease, and install 2nd half of the axle's housing with the 4 screws supplied. |
3 Attachment(s) Last step is installing the rear aluminum lockouts. Slide a bearing onto the outer ends of the straight axle, and slip the aluminum lockouts onto the ends of the axle housing. Install M3 screws and the rear axle is ready. "thumbsup" |
4 Attachment(s) Time for the front axle. Build will be the same as the rear up to installing the diff assembly into the housing. Install the supplied bearings into the knuckles and add the outer axles. Make sure you don't forget to add the little black bushings to the knuckles before you install them onto the axle C's. I also used stainless button head screws for the kingpins because of their low profile. Aluminum knuckles and axle C's are in the plans for this build too, but the stockers will work for now. ;-) |

Looks good so far, would really like to get ahold of some of those steel lockers cause my stockers are gettin pretty loose. Flat head allen screws (instead of button-heads) would be better in those countersunk holes for the RCP rear straight axle pieces. ;) |

very cool. my build is identical as far as axles go. I picked up the rcp aluminum c's and knuckles but thats it. The ring and pinion look great sitting next to the stock ones. How easy is the bead to clamp onto with those mose wheels? i bought the rc4wd beadlocks and they are next to impossible. |

I see the MSD's growing greatly in popularity. Is this because of the seat ability of the tires - explicitly Rock Claws? I know how fun bead locks can be to assemble, lol. Are these just easier and more efficient at beading the ring? I have to ask as I am really wanting these wheels. I like them mainly for the looks but I have never bought an aftermarket pair. Sorry to hijack, but you would know! "thumbsup" |
