I'm probably the only one to have screwed this up, but after I did it when I went "forward" on my radio, the truck would go backwards. I reversed the throttle via the transmitter and now it goes faster in reverse and I have to tap twice to get it to go forward, what the heck did I do wrong?

Can you take a pic? It sounds like you flipped the motor backwards with the tranny. A buddy of mine did that after I tried to explain the mirror flip on the phone. He actually ended up with the motor on the opposite side but turned around too. (Not a mirror flip). If you want to leave it, I guess you could reverse your wires and put your radio back to normal. Then the only thing going backwards is your motor... and it doesn't really care.

If that is not what happened.. then Idunno....

Shoot! Just move your steering gear to the other axle and you're set! (Always thinking outside the box!)

Or you can go the convential way and just rotate ur tranny 180*. You did the mirror correctly, you just got the tranny in backwards.

You need to reverse the WIRES on your motor, not your radio settings.

OR

flip your belly tray around and mount the tranny with the spur to the BACK and leave your motor wired normally.

crappy picture but should give the idea. with it this way the motor is wired normally ( red + black - )

I must add that this mod is awesome! I was only able to drive it for a few minutes due to messed up yolks (long story), but I could tell that the weight transfer was alot smoother, maybe even non-existent.

thanks a bunch EeePee!!

Well that's good to hear guys, glad it's working out for yas.

I'm building me another AX10 and took a couple shots of the mirrored tranny mounted on a TCS skid, with the CDW 6mm outputs, and with the baddest motor out there.

What's the plan for this one? I figured after you built your cheater truck, you wouldn't mess with these anymore...

Well you're right, as far as comps go, and being serious, it's all about the cheaters. But as far as having fun goes, shafts are the shit. I'll show and tell later when I'm further along.

Default mirror tranny

You may hate me for this but..
Building my first crawler ARTR Ax-10, seasoned Rc'er who can't leave anything stock. Already torn the truck apart and fabbing 4 link plates/battery holder w/ servo mount. While I have the tranny out I was thinking of doing this mod. I hope I understand the torque twist tries to lift the passenger tire up in driving? So putting the motor up front helps the weight and makes the rotating work in favor of keepin that side down?
When doing the mod just have to be sure motor rotates the right direction. One last question.... I'm running the Rooster(crawler) 55t novak motor will these accept this direction change?

Right. More about the weight I'd say than rotating though. The driveshaft/pinion gear is still trying to climb the ring gear.

There is no direction change. The motor is still rotating the spur gear the same direction, but from the other side, not the driver's side, but the passenger's side.

Since torque twist is such a big issue, why would the maufacturers build the tranny that way? Why not build it mirrored and market it as a better crawling setup??
