Default For those with Punishers.....

We have a set of punishers on our AX10 and were wondering if anybody else was having the problem of them not making enough contact to the outputs? It seems that were chewing the ends of our outputs to shreds! It looks as though the Punisher's shaft set screw only contacts the last couple of mm's of the shaft? Anybody else with this issue or have a solution?

Can you grind down the yoke some to fully sit the setscrew on the shaft?

I haven't had any issues with mine, but I had to really force them to get them far enough on the pinion shaft.

I ran into this as well and it was causing the set screws to work loose even with red lock-tite on them. I ground off the little ridge on each shaft yoke and since then haven't had an issue.

I used them and even ground them down. Imo their junk for the use on the ax10. on other trucks they might be good. I went and bought a set of pede shafts and used the stock yokes and haven't had one pop or any problems with them yet.

Take the dremel and grind down the end of the Punisher Shaft that is going to the axle. This will allow the set screw to sit onto the output shaft better. Once this is done, they will be just fine.

I have had to modify all 4 sets of my Punisher shafts. Once they are modded a little, they work great!

I'll grind them down somr and see what happens. I was going to do that anyway but wanted to see if it was me or not. Why dosn't somebody make a set of steel output stubs?

I had that problem with one of my punisher shafts. I had bought one from rc4wd and one from rpphobby (which had the same problem you described) I compared the two and noticed that the one from rpp wasn't even close the one I ordered from rc4wd. I'll post some pics later on when I get a chance

I am running a pair that I bought from RC4WD.....and no issues. I am running a R2D trans and not the AXIAL one. These shafts just clamped on and all was good. Survuved a pretty tough indoor comp on Saturday, and no issues.

I am running them. I broke the Pede shafts, the stock shafts... so I bought the punishers. At first glance I thought they could have been designed a little better. The chrome plating on them causes a prob but can be fixed with a drill. The yokes do not allow the set screw to engage the pinion like it should even after we ground them down we still had problems with the screw coming loose and tossing the shaft out. So we DRILLED and TAPPED the yokes to allow the set screw to pass all the way through the pinion. You will have to drill a relief in the punisher shaft to allow the set screw to pass all the way through. I would HIGHLY recommend tapping the hole and not drilling a through hole. If you do so you may start breaking pinions. I am really hard on stuff and have not broken one yet. We tried to break it if you are wondering.

I should point out I am running the RC4WD tranny with disconnect. It does not clear the disconnect with out a minor mod.

Definitely a MINOR mod. Grinding a hair width of material off of the servo linkage connector with the Dremel took all of 30 seconds. I wish all mods were that easy.

For the SET SCREWS on the R2D output shafts I just used a longer set screw that I created a tapered end on....it engages the stock holes in the pinions without any drilling into the shaft causing a weak spot. 20 seconds with the Dremel and a little locktite...and it is all holding together GREAT. It had ZERO issues in last Saturday's comp, or the previous Sunday's bash. Shattered the tip on an input shaft (Inside the axle and not where the Punisher attaches to the input shaft)....but no other damage.

Considering the pede shafts are cheap as dirt, go for those.

80 dollars on driveshafts is a little expensive if you ask me.

I have had crappy luck with all shafts and was about to try these, but was afraid to drop that kind of coin on them.(glad i didnt now) So I tried the esavage shafts and after a few minor mods....all is good.....and way cheaper.

hey guys i had the same problem with one of my punisher shafts--found the problem to be on the axle itself. my pinion gear had a little burr on it
so i took a file and smoothed them out a little bit and my punisher fit perfectly. it may help to use a pick and try to pry the pinion out a little bit
because there is such a tight clearance between the two it will push back into the axle. after that never had another problem with my punishers...

ScorpioCrawler... I would like to see a pic. As far as pede shafts, Junk, Junk, Junk! I' must have been buying shafts every 3 days before I bought these and unless this little 60 turn can break'em these will be the last ones I'll own so in my opinion they are well woth the money. But with all good things come great resposibility and the next week link in the chain seems to be the out drive's. If somebody's going to take the time to build a stout piece as these then they should have taken the time to design a steel out put! Just my $.02.

Until I see a steel output I will stick to 'pede shafts.Way easier to fix than anything else, axles or transmission,so I'll accept the driveshaft as the weakest link til stronger parts come out.

R2D has the stronger outputs......my issue is with the weaker axle INPUTS. Have now snapped 2 of them.
