Default belly dragger

I got my losi cralwer shocks in today and since they are shorter, my scorpion is a serious belly dragger now. am i going to have to get a new chassis to fix this?

Losi shocks with the AX10 chassis is not what I would consider "a serious belly dragger." It's approx 2" of ride height.

You can extend the shocks if you need more, but I'm personally liking the 2" of ride height. Makes for a stable truck.

You are running sprung suspension right?

for reference:

AX-10 with stock shocks (stock limiter inside shock body):

CG is way too high on this setup....

AX-10 with Losi 4" shocks (no limiter):

CG is right where I like it on this setup.

yes, go to RCP and buy a blackjack.

seriously though, whats your clearance? i run my comp rig at about 2 5/8", its low compared to a lot of rigs but it works. i'd say if you're under 2.5" then something needs to be done. otherwise, adjust your driving style to work with it. unless your terrain just simply wont allow it.

its really bad. there are no limiters in the shocks.

untouched.

lifted

untouched. just enough clearance to slip a AA battery under it. Is this considered good? i can't crawl up the curb like i used to. now i bottom out and i have to floor my goat to ballon my tires and get traction to get over it.

i don't have a tape measure handy. so i used the bs method. sheet of paper is 8.5x11 so i folded it twice lengthwise. that should give me a 2.125" ruler. i am still below that. probably a hair under 2"

That's really too low, IMO. I'd consider a different chassis, or you could drill new holes lower down in the chassis, if you are on a budget.

I had the same problem with mine, well just my rears but my solution was to buy longer rod ends. They are about $3-$5 or so and all you have to do is find ones that are the right length. I saw that the ends on integy shocks are pretty long, you might look into those. It would be a lot cheaper than a new chassis.

Not really off topic. One way to raise the ride heigth is a longer shock shaft. A guy could use longer rod ends on the shaft as well. I'm designing a chassis right now that'll have a little more adjustments in the shock mounts and link mounts compaired to the Axial chassis. It's still in the drawing phase right now though.

That skid plate might fit in there. I don't wanna tell you wrong though. Guys that run that chassis would be able to say better than I can. The Blackjack is a nice chassis and seems to work well. I do think it was designed around itty bitty Jato or Revo shocks though. A set of 4" shocks might work as well though. Just about every chassis on the market has their own style and characteristics. They also all seem to favor certain set ups and driving style. A good way to decide on a chassis is to look at each rig/chassis as a whole. Watch allot of video's. Find a chassis that fit's your driving style and pick the set up you like best.

Kurt, you may try some more pre-load on your shocks(run the adjusters down, look a Mr Pinks pic,see how for his is down). If it starts to coil bind the springs you could go with a stiffer spring.

I'm going through this same problem right now. Ride height for me is 1.75" with the Losi shocks...way to low for any ledges. I think if you redrill new holes lower it will lay the shocks down to much so I'm going to make some detachable shock mounts. Probably something like Double J sells with his Da Bull chassis...only on a smaller size

Nothing stiffer springs, thicker oil and limiters won't cure

The longer rod ends will bring it up to about 2-3/4" I took some preload out of the front for a simi droop. Now I am about 2-5/8". I also took off my bent links, the lowers will run about parallel.
Try climbing it with the Losi ends....It will climb like a spider...lol

raptor is right the blackjack works best with shocks around 2 3/4"-3 1/2" long... i'd seriously just change ballends. ive done it before on other shocks.

:? ..... there are tons of ways to stabilize your rig (lower cog) that let you keep belly clearance. i am running 2.75" of skid clearance and with that ride height, i can still balance my rig on its side and get damn near vertical without tipping over. I guess that depends on your terrain and how you set up your truck. Any less clearance seems seems almost ridiculous; to me. Overall capability of a crawler requires belly clearance. thats just my opinion.

Default AX-10 Shock Tower Template

Kurt,
I am running the Hot Body Blue Shocks 70 mm (2.75") compressed. I cut 4 shock tower plates to accommodate various suspension setups. The plates are 1.8mm scrap aluminum plate. I am running 1000wt oil in a semi-droop setup (1/2" compression & 1-1/4 extension) with cut springs. My current clearance is 3" & stable. I have included a GIF - (full scale) (I have a 100% PDF but am unable to attach it) of the template.
