| Black Jack!
Well my son has got to the point were he wants to crawl at the comps and not just play go-fer. So I let him drive my GC-1 based rig at the last comp and he preceded to try and destroy a spur gear in the first 30 seconds. After that debacle I decided to go ahead and buy another Axial kit and build another rig. I'll let him have the CG-1 after I tone down the power to something more fitting of a 7 year old. I picked up a Black Jack as I love the compact design. I've set up the links on it just like the GC-1 (actually using a GC-1 skid and link mounts)though as I love the way it crawls. I'll start w/ my build list. CHASSIS: Black Jack AXLES: AXIAL TRANNY: AXIAL TIRES: Imex Rubicons / Pro Line Badlands FOAMS: Ace's Donuts WHEELS: Ericksons RADIO: Spektrum DX3 BATTERY: Holmes Hobbies 3C Lipo MOTOR: R2J 35T Warrior ESC: Mamba Max w/ Castle BEC SERVO: Hitec 5595TG DIG SERVO Hitec 645MG SHOCKS: Losi .6 SPRINGS: Losi White/Front Losi Yellow/Rear BODY: Pro Line Rockstar As the Axial shock mounting location is lower on the axle compared to the TLT, I couldn't use the 3Racing MLST shocks that some of the guys are running. I did a little digging and found out that the Losi XXX CR front .6 shocks are just about 80mm and will work perfectly! My LHS had everything but the shock shafts I needed in stock so I swooped them up. I have some Losi .6 Titanium Nitrided shock shafts on order, when they arrive I'll finish assembling the shocks and get the rig mocked up, then I post up some more picks. Few pics of my Black Jack in it's current mock up. Motor side after a little mod to fit the motor w/ the super narrow skid. Close up shot of modded chassis and finished chassis height. Good balance even w/o shocks! Close up of skid installation. Enjoy! Last edited by dezfan; 03-25-2008 at 12:14 PM. |

Hey Dez, that thing looks killer. I was about to buy another one to use on some axial axles since the one i got with my poulsons works so good but I might have to steal your idea, that looks sick. Great job on it

I totally understand the 7 year old and breaking stuff part dezfan. I upgraded my 6 year old son's electronics in his GC1 AX-10 and he broke his first Axial part in a matter of minutes. I'm subscribed to this thread. I am interested to see how you like the Black Jack dez. You are definitely off to great start. I wonder how many pages this thread will end up with.

So are all four of the links that you are using for your Black Jack the standard Traxxas #5318 (102mm) just like the GC-1?

Well made a little progress on my Black Jack. My Losi shock shafts came in so I got my shocks assembled, man these things are like butta! My center chassis clearance is about 3 1/8 right now, after I play w/ my springs if might be a bit lower. Also lengthened my rear upper links about 10mm to rotate my rear drive shaft up and out of the way a bit. Still need to install my high clearance links in the rear. Hope to get to them in a few days. I then fabricated a small shelf to mount my lipo pack on. Used some sheet brass from the LHS as the aluminum was to flexible. I then coated it w/ some spray on tool dip and slapped a couple pieces of Velcro on to hold the battery in place. I also have a Velcro strap to help and secure the lipo in place. Lipo is now mounted forward and low as well as being protected fro impacts. Picked up and mounted a set of Pro Line Badlands and a Pro Line Rockstar body. I mounted it up but I'm still playing w/ a few ideas on a paint scheme so it's still clear. Need to finish installing my electronics, paint the body and if my new dig servo shows up I'll finish up my dig. Here are a few progress pics. Ride height in the 3 inch range. Maditory flex shot. Lipo mounted. Lipo tray. Rock Star body. Another body shot. Last edited by dezfan; 03-27-2008 at 10:11 PM. |
